Wow, very impressive how this Epi sounds (That bridge pickup is awesome) .. Love both too.. Thanks for sharing.. Great video.
That opening jam is very Robby Krieger. Love it!
I have the radio blue metallic one on the way and am very excited to finally have an SG after 23 years of playing.
Haha thanks. Good for an SG then I suppose.
Nice! Those blue metallics look real cool. They’re like a sharp electric blue. Enjoy!
That jam !
That fucking jam !
It's been half an hour and I can't just stop !
What on earth the beginning jam is made of !
I'm definitely going to learn it...
Take love man❤️
Thanx a lot... I think i will check out the muse too... Nice colours
Nice job on this video. Very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks!
Your two videos surrounding the Epi SG Muse have been greatly helpful.
Thanks. I'm looking at an open-box Muse for $359 and after your two videos I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger.
Glad I could help! For the price (especially open box or gently used) they are one of the best new models out this year I think. Hope you get it and enjoy!
beautiful video, beautiful guitars, beautiful tone and beautiful playing. ANYTHING is wrong, keep uploading videos like this ;)
Thanks for the support Eddy! Glad you like what I try to do here. I'll keep things going for sure :)
Another great video! Keep me coming
always great seeing you dropping in here my man! thanks
I LOVE my muse. I upgraded the tuners to Rotomatic grovers and put a chrome JB in the bridge position and it’s so amazing. I’m probably gonna buy another and do the same mods just cause I love the the feel of the guitar and the color selection.
Nice! Good call on the Seymour Duncans. I always say SD makes the best humbuckers
Great video. Thanks. Epi sounds more treble-y to me, but both sound good. The Muse is certainly beautiful.
I used your video on the SG Muse as a reliable source before I purchased one from Sweetwater.
Very good, well-thought-out and demoed video. Thanks for your effort.
Thanks! Enjoy your new guitar! Which color did you go with?
@@joeytheguitarplayer I kinda like the blue, but went with the metallic salmon [gold], as it seemed a classier color to me. I will replace the cream plastic with black, I think, and the knobs with black ones.

Great comparison! 👍
I had a Gibson SG with burstbuckers when i first started gigging, and i always fought with the electronics (and wasn't as good a player admittedly). I later traded for a Gibson P90 Les Paul that I love. But I just ordered a Muse SG (with help from your vids) since it seems like a great value and I've always wanted a green guitar!
Well? How about it?
Good review comparison. I wonder if i put 57 classics in the epiphone, would it sound sweet like the ‘61 reissue...
A great video 👍
Cool test, well done. To me (and I owned and own both may times over) if you consider the audio comparo here it's obvious the Gibson pups are a little hotter and warmer in the mid lows. So if you like the feel and extra gimmicks of the treble bleed, phase and coil split the question becomes do you pop $470 (remember tax kids) for the Muse and add $300 or more for some killer pups and STILL be under the Gibson price??? 🎸 ⏚
Too my ears the Epi sounded clearer, would of liked to hear with more gain
super awesome video thanks
Thanks!
Two great instruments. The Muse is very impressive, especially for the price. An interesting and helpful video. Thanks!
Thanks for the informative video. What made you lean toward the Gibson over the Epiphone? A few weeks ago I watched a Billy Gibbons interview where he played a red SG with .007 strings and that inspired me to finally pull the trigger on an Epiphone SG Standard ebony with batwing pickguard from Sweetwater. Sweetwater did the setup with the lowest action possible and Rev Willy 008s. The neck and frets are perfect. What amazes me is how Epiphone is able to make such a beautiful and resonant-sustaining guitar for $449 usd.
Thanks! For me just some finer details on the Gibson were a little higher grade. It does feel good I gotta say. But the Epi was a serious champ for the price!
And yea I do love watching Billy play that "Lil Red" SG! So cool.
Joey Anthony Guitar thanks for the quick response. I’ve heard others comment that nitro feels better but honestly I couldn’t tell that difference. Both of your SGs sounded great but the Gibson pickups sounded clearer to me. The pots seemed a little stiff on my Epi but appear to be loosening up. I would have bought the Gibson if it was in my budget but am thrilled with the Epiphone. Perhaps I’ll own an ebony Gibson SG Custom one of these days if my playing improves😃. Keep up the inspirational videos.
The pots in the Epiphone are pretty solid I recently just sold my Gibson SG because it was worth so much I was too cheap to keep it. I just bought the muse and assuming it feels right I may throw some nice pickups in it and see how different it feels from my old SG.
I traded it away but for one reason. Epiphone necks are too thin. They have this broomstick feel the I’m not a fan of. If I were a gigging musician however I’d absolutely buy another and put nice pickups in it so I could beat the shit out of it and not worry about it getting stolen.
I traded it for a epiphone casino in warn olive drab and that thing is a 10/10. Like mind blowingly good.
I recommend everyone gets their dream Gibson. Then when you want other guitars for sounds and looks go used epiphone. Unless you’re someone who hates china. Then I understand breaking the bank for American made. It’s like the fake converse shoes at Walmart. They do it for you if you want it to.
Wow the epiphone sg sounds so much better now, i had the old epiphone g400 and upgraded to gibson sg standard and it was a big upgrade, now you dont even need a gibson to sound good:)
they sound different but are both good...the muse is brighter and thinner in the low e string... I prefer the darker 61 but it is only a question of personal taste. It seems to me that you feel more comfortable at playing the 61... is it my impression or there is a real difference in the playability of the two guitars?
to be fair Gibson has been playing around with those SG body contours for decades now. The differences are often subtle but there is quite a variety.
If you dropped classic 57s on the muse, do you think it would even things out?
Nice idea! Tonally probably yes. I’d say (if you enjoyed modding) it’s a guitar worth putting work into. Real good bones you know.
You can but the change is so little in sound you better off saving your money but if you really have too good luck
I have the Les Paul Classic Ebony in a Gibson and Epiphone. I like the Gibson pickups slightly better, but the Epi's are great too; more a matter of taste than quality. The Plek'd neck on the Gibson is slightly more refined but the fit and finish on the Epiphone is BETTER !!... and the acrylic clearcoat will NEVER turn yellow. The difference in sound is really slight. I swapped the pickups just to test it and with Gibson pickups there is NO difference in the sound on the Epiphone; I blind tested it on a couple of friends. I also took pics of everything but the headstock and everyone, every time picked the Epiphone as the Gibson because they thought it looked better.......not to say that I don't love my Gibson's, I have 4 of them and they are Great, but I think for a solid body guitar the lacquer finish does nothing to improve sound and the acrylic urethane on the Epiphone is flatter, shrinks less, is 5 times tougher and never turns yellow. Nitrocellulose lacquer for a hollow body, YES... absolutely necessary for quality sound, but not a solid body. ... .. and I do believe in BUY American made when ever you can !!
Not much difference in general sound quality. Interesting. How do they actually compare on your fingers on the fretboard.
How is the playabilty difference.
Did you notice a big difference in the weight of the guitars. Enjoyed watching
Thanks Paul! Not really any weight difference with the one I had atleast. About the same standard amount of SG headstock dive too.
@@joeytheguitarplayer I'm sold on Epiphone since the weight is equal
Got the same lust green gonna put handcrafted pick ups an SG wiring harness try putting her on that Gibson Level!!! Come on shipping hurry ur ass up..🤘
and now do a comparison with the Guild Polara :)
The Epi Muse has less depth and is generally brighter but still sounds great and is fantastic vfm.
The muse sounded great and held it's own.
Have the SG Modern, which actually sounds great and is my first SG. I must say, I do hear a lot of difference between these two, with the Gibson far and away better.
There isn’t much in them sound wise in your video but you can’t beat a Gibson but there so expensive now I bought mine in 1991 for £499 but it’s worth more now anyway and the standard even more I’m happy with my other guitars too my fender strat in red which I bought in 1998 for £200 my Washburn and a couple of basses bronco hofner and a couple of drum kits amongst other bit and bobs anyway I do prefer Gibson keep those suckers coming a great video 👍🇬🇧
Thank you. I bought the epi for the price and and gonna replace with Gibson probuckers
I’ve got a Gibson les Paul studio which I bought in 1991 and a epiphone special model which I bought in 1998 and there is a different between the two Gibson you can’t beat it there’s more balls with Gibson than epiphone but epiphone isn’t to bad I suppose..,
Gibson has a touch more weight to the tone, but there wasn't much in it.
I felt so too !
Great video! I added a 61 reissue pickguard to mine yesterday and I had to sand it down because of that sharper carving. Ended up looking pretty good, but had no idea until I added that to it. Check it out on my page if you'd like!
That's pretty cool Andrew! I have always taken the pickguard off my SGs haha, first time I have heard of someone adding one on. Thanks for the compliments!
@@joeytheguitarplayer Right on! Keep up the good work!
Nice job. My choice is a 500 Epiphone and a 500 valve amp. If I sell the cat I can afford a 200 pedal. Bet I'll sound better than than Gibson.
I’m with you Day Tripper.. I’m def a firm believer in the “put the money in the amp” philosophy for sure..
I like the sound of both but for my ears, I think the Epiphone sound suits me a little more. It appears to slightly less bassy which I prefer. But if I could afford both I would buy both but what the hell buy the Epiphone and save up for the Gibson because you can never have too many guitars.
I hear virtually no difference... Epi might sound slightly more "open", but I'm not sure. Same sound, lower price ;-)
Both sound good in their own way but the Epiphone looks cool.
the gibson is way hotter and has more depht
Epiphone 1873 Gibson 1902 so who's your daddy Gibson
If you buy American you can continue to be able to buy American. I have nothing against any other country and I hope everyone in the world does well but I live in the USA. Invest in your own home and neighborhood and I encourage all nations to do this. Nation building is done from within. The reason wages are low and we catastrophically inefficiently pollute by sending giant freighters and airplanes overseas is because we outsource everything so these giant corporations share holders can have bigger profit margins. They’re doing fine and don’t care about working people’s wages or if they have to compete with third world countries. It’s crazy. I know buying American isn’t something everyone can afford or justify but save up. You’re not just buying a product you’re buying a better future! And to other countries buying American thank you. You’re money isn’t supporting unfortunate company run sweat shops. You’re money is going to decent living conditions and wages that raise families and we’re grateful.
Gibson is heads above. It's obvious
