    I had a Gibson SG with burstbuckers when i first started gigging, and i always fought with the electronics (and wasn't as good a player admittedly). I later traded for a Gibson P90 Les Paul that I love. But I just ordered a Muse SG (with help from your vids) since it seems like a great value and I've always wanted a green guitar!

    Cool test, well done. To me (and I owned and own both may times over) if you consider the audio comparo here it's obvious the Gibson pups are a little hotter and warmer in the mid lows. So if you like the feel and extra gimmicks of the treble bleed, phase and coil split the question becomes do you pop $470 (remember tax kids) for the Muse and add $300 or more for some killer pups and STILL be under the Gibson price??? 🎸 ⏚

    Thanks for the informative video. What made you lean toward the Gibson over the Epiphone? A few weeks ago I watched a Billy Gibbons interview where he played a red SG with .007 strings and that inspired me to finally pull the trigger on an Epiphone SG Standard ebony with batwing pickguard from Sweetwater. Sweetwater did the setup with the lowest action possible and Rev Willy 008s. The neck and frets are perfect. What amazes me is how Epiphone is able to make such a beautiful and resonant-sustaining guitar for $449 usd.

    • @joeytheguitarplayer
      @joeytheguitarplayer  Před 4 lety

      Thanks! For me just some finer details on the Gibson were a little higher grade. It does feel good I gotta say. But the Epi was a serious champ for the price!
      And yea I do love watching Billy play that "Lil Red" SG! So cool.

      Joey Anthony Guitar thanks for the quick response. I’ve heard others comment that nitro feels better but honestly I couldn’t tell that difference. Both of your SGs sounded great but the Gibson pickups sounded clearer to me. The pots seemed a little stiff on my Epi but appear to be loosening up. I would have bought the Gibson if it was in my budget but am thrilled with the Epiphone. Perhaps I’ll own an ebony Gibson SG Custom one of these days if my playing improves😃. Keep up the inspirational videos.

  • @OrvilleRickenbacker
    @OrvilleRickenbacker Před 3 lety +3

    The pots in the Epiphone are pretty solid I recently just sold my Gibson SG because it was worth so much I was too cheap to keep it. I just bought the muse and assuming it feels right I may throw some nice pickups in it and see how different it feels from my old SG.

    • @OrvilleRickenbacker
      @OrvilleRickenbacker Před rokem

      I traded it away but for one reason. Epiphone necks are too thin. They have this broomstick feel the I’m not a fan of. If I were a gigging musician however I’d absolutely buy another and put nice pickups in it so I could beat the shit out of it and not worry about it getting stolen.
      I traded it for a epiphone casino in warn olive drab and that thing is a 10/10. Like mind blowingly good.
      I recommend everyone gets their dream Gibson. Then when you want other guitars for sounds and looks go used epiphone. Unless you’re someone who hates china. Then I understand breaking the bank for American made. It’s like the fake converse shoes at Walmart. They do it for you if you want it to.

  • @BADDying
    @BADDying Před 3 lety

    they sound different but are both good...the muse is brighter and thinner in the low e string... I prefer the darker 61 but it is only a question of personal taste. It seems to me that you feel more comfortable at playing the 61... is it my impression or there is a real difference in the playability of the two guitars?

  • @BigIronTexas
    @BigIronTexas Před 3 lety

    to be fair Gibson has been playing around with those SG body contours for decades now. The differences are often subtle but there is quite a variety.

  • @GK-ud8dv
    @GK-ud8dv Před 3 lety +3

    I have the Les Paul Classic Ebony in a Gibson and Epiphone. I like the Gibson pickups slightly better, but the Epi's are great too; more a matter of taste than quality. The Plek'd neck on the Gibson is slightly more refined but the fit and finish on the Epiphone is BETTER !!... and the acrylic clearcoat will NEVER turn yellow. The difference in sound is really slight. I swapped the pickups just to test it and with Gibson pickups there is NO difference in the sound on the Epiphone; I blind tested it on a couple of friends. I also took pics of everything but the headstock and everyone, every time picked the Epiphone as the Gibson because they thought it looked better.......not to say that I don't love my Gibson's, I have 4 of them and they are Great, but I think for a solid body guitar the lacquer finish does nothing to improve sound and the acrylic urethane on the Epiphone is flatter, shrinks less, is 5 times tougher and never turns yellow. Nitrocellulose lacquer for a hollow body, YES... absolutely necessary for quality sound, but not a solid body. ... .. and I do believe in BUY American made when ever you can !!

    If you buy American you can continue to be able to buy American. I have nothing against any other country and I hope everyone in the world does well but I live in the USA. Invest in your own home and neighborhood and I encourage all nations to do this. Nation building is done from within. The reason wages are low and we catastrophically inefficiently pollute by sending giant freighters and airplanes overseas is because we outsource everything so these giant corporations share holders can have bigger profit margins. They’re doing fine and don’t care about working people’s wages or if they have to compete with third world countries. It’s crazy. I know buying American isn’t something everyone can afford or justify but save up. You’re not just buying a product you’re buying a better future! And to other countries buying American thank you. You’re money isn’t supporting unfortunate company run sweat shops. You’re money is going to decent living conditions and wages that raise families and we’re grateful.
