- The young and supremely talented carnatic veena player, Ramana Balachandhran was the opening artiste at the FEA-curated CROSSROADS festival in Chennai. The second piece of his recital was "Dattatreya" in Ragam Ranjani. Ramana was accompanied by the amazing Patri Satish Kumar on mridangam.

Incredible rendition. Ranjani is always so soothing and the way Ramana has played, it's so beautiful. Excellent support by Patri as always. I also loved the Warli tribal art in Patris mridangam

Great perfection. Melodious. At this age it is just impossible for the boys of his age to handle this Veena. Look at his face , his eyes are either closed or looks at the strings that too occasionally. No laptop, no books to refer. His rendering is Divine & Divine only . Blessed are the Parents of Master Ramana .

Is it just me or it is for real, that Patri's style of percussion is evolving to be a genrè in itself. I have very rudimentary skills in Carnatic vocal and I have no initiation to Mrudangam. Yet I can clearly see emotions in his style of play. A 'noiseless' art. Looking forward to many decades of his reign in this art form.

Not possible. Ramana is just about 21. But, I would believe that Vidwan Balachander has taken rebirth as Ramana. The styles sync very well.
The artist's name is Ramana Balachandran. The person you're referring to is Veena Balachander, not Balachandran.

Great player, but I have hard time to enjoy the sound produced by this magnetic pickup on the veena.
It doesn't do justice with the instrument
Certainly RAMANA is a talented artiste. But, he needs to improve his playing of the gamakas which can be still better. Satish is a versatile artiste who always support the main artist, as can be seen in this piece. But, Tramana will definitely become a very good Veena artist, which augurs well for the current set of Carnatic musicians. God bless him and wish him all luck!!
