Thank you for the list. This is a great video to save for later reference.
@@KirkMcc yeah is there a link to his channel somewhere? Great build!!
where is link to his channel
Omg this is so cool!!!
Great way to list everything. Very helpful!
This is the best SUV camper build I have seen yet. Minimalist, fully functional and very stealth. There were a lot of great ideas packed in this video and it is a well thought out design. Excellent!!
Thanks. Glad you liked the build. Was a labor of love.
Awesome
What 4runner did you get? And your gas miles?
Came here to say more or less the same, lots of interesting ideas and products in this build, very cool.
Thanks so much
@@JohnMason-Hill the fact that everything is design to minimize waste is amazing. truly the coolest build i’ve seen.
This guy is a national treasure! He has everything you need without looking like you’re going into a zombie apocalypse.
Thank you
That's probably the most well done stealth setup I've ever seen
Same. Very smart
First: to Tristan for allowing his guest to show his vehicle in his words and his way so the video flows so smoothly - bravo! Second: to John - WOW!!!! AWESOME!!! PRECISION PERFECTION! Never in the hundreds of builds I've viewed have I seen such care taken to meet all ones camping needs (ALL) and keep it perfectly sized to the vehicle so to be stored away in easy reach of what is daily needed and out of sight of what is not. Your foresight in planning was so inclusion of all your needs - even a Safe! You are a camper van without the van size and you are a passenger vehicle that hides a huge secret. All visually clutter free and comfortable. May you have many wonderful travels in front of you.
Love. Love. Love you comment. I’ve been blown away by people’s responses to my rig. Thank you again.
💯% agree! Appreciate this channel, the video, impressive camper (man & rig), and your lovely comment.☺️ Fun stuff!
This guy knows what's up! I've been traveling and camping in my 4Runner for years...I thought I had a pretty good minimalist setup figured out, but I learned a lot from this dude. My hero! Thanks for posting this
Sometimes you just find someone who's been exactly where you want to go (and you can steal all their wisdom 😁)
John is very wise and such a great guy! He actually inspired me to build-out my own 4Runner. Glad he's finally getting recognized, his channel is Minimalist Overlander.
Thank you Lex. Hope you are having the time of your life in your rig!!!
Thank you! I was looking for the channel in the description!
If you buy a black cloth to hide stuff under.... The best cloth is black velvet. It eats light. I used it as a backdrop when I needed a black background when I photographed jewelry. Even when a cop shines his flashlight into your car it will not give you away.
Unlike other types of cloth, it does not reflect.
Thank you
John is the kind of guy you want for any kind of alien/zombie invasion. You know he is going to be well prepared.
I've seen so many SUV/van builds and normally there isn't that much new stuff.
This build is so far ahead of anything else I've seen. It is unbelievable. Lots of people will be willing to pay to get their rig designed like this.
Even if you do 50% of what is done here, you will be good.
You are awesome!! Best comments ever. Glad you love my ideas. Always thrilling to hear people’s responses.
@@JohnMason-Hill Thanks for showing your rig. You should be proud of your creation.
Love this clever build. John has thought of everything. I would even be happy with just the awesome bed and a cooler.
For real. I'm going with john.
The joy for his car is infectious. I could listen to people talk about stuff the love all day long.
He is comfortable and having fun in a vehicle that can go anywhere without bringing any attention to himself/vehicle. Awesome!
Sweet Rig! This is like the James Bond of overland rigs. Amazing ideas and creative thinking! Thanks for sharing John’s set up!
Wow! That’s an awesome compliment. It was labor of love for sure.
One of the 4runner nerds here. Thought I've seen all 4runner related overlanding stuff but 80% of what's shown here I've never seen done before. Great video and a true stealth camper! Thanks for sharing!
Agreed!
Thank you for the recognition. I do what do naturally but don’t often give myself enough credit for the hard work that went into each decision. Your words meant a great deal.
As a fellow 4Runner overlander, I have to give him big props for that ingenious interior roof rack system. By far one of the neatest things I've seen using the roof space inside the back of an SUV and may incorporate something similar into my own build.
Would love to see your solution when you get it up and running! Cheers.
What a great idea and solution. Some cargo netting and you have some extra storage space - you can be selective where you put the net. As I MTB i need more storage space that this set up - so would like need a platform under the bed for additional storage - but this has given me so many ideas
This guy has thought of it all. I'm amazed at how much stuff he has while still being stealth.
That’s no longer a 4Runner. That’s a damn Batmobile. He sat in the front seat and pulled like 79 things out the door.
I honestly didn’t want to watch this video but hey I love 4Runners and said let’s see what this guy is talking about….
Thirty minutes later I was like why is this over I need more. John is such a cool dude. He’s very analytical and thoughtful, and not only of himself but of others and his environment, not many people are like him nowadays.
I loved the video host edited the video to just let him break the car down without interrupting him, genius. This truck needs to be studied by NASA to ensure every detail can be explored. From the outside it’s a complete mom mobile but John created and overland Batmobile that even James Bond would be proud to have. Amazing.
God bless you John and safe travels.
John is an analytical thinker and planner with clear objective. This is probably the best example of a stealth vehicle. To get a setup like this is not cheap but for the purpose of its existence, it is mostly necessary. I learn a lot watching this video, not about the built but the essence of a built. It made me realize that I must scrutinize what I put in my SUV more critically. Thank you for the links to gears; very handy!
I love your comment about the essence of a build. A beautiful way to put it.
Experience is experience
Love John’s philosophy about travel. Exactly the same as mine. Keep it simple. Stealthy. Capable of taking you on any adventure.
Thank you!!
That interior roof rack is absolutely genius. Amazing ingenuity.
Legit insane build, so impressed. Just realized this video was over 30 minutes - had absolutely no idea I just watched for 30 minutes without blinking. Was completely enthralled with John and his BondRunner.
This video is perfection. From the host staying out of the way of his guest’s narration, to John, with his intelligent build-out. I’ve been wanting to see a setup like this for a long time. Thanks and safe travels.
This build is so simple yet has all one needs! Tristan does such a great job of letting his guest do all the tour, only asking questions to answers he knows his viewers will want. AND the best part is no gabbing about every little thing he he has in the suv. Lighting was sometimes low though, I kept bringing the screen closer to my eyes as though my vision was the problem! I really enjoyed this video and wish I had the skills to put my suv together like this!
If you need any help just reach out to me. Happy to give advice or lend a hand. I’m retired and have a lot of time on my hands.
@@JohnMason-Hill I subscribed to your CZcams channel but haven’t had a chance to watch any of your videos but am looking forward to it. I just love your whole minimalist set-up!
@@metroteacher thank you so much. I haven’t made a video in year, life got in the way, but I’m about to make a bunch.
@@JohnMason-Hill Hopefully you’ll do! Just subscribed to your channel not just because of your incredible built I’d love to own myself but moreover bc your way of storytelling got me ❣️
I am absolutely blown away. Totally genius little things that add up to a complete and truly stealth over lander. Well done, John.
Thank you so much. A labor of love for sure.
I am seriously impressed. John has thought of everything.
My mind is literally blown...I've officially found my dream build!!
I have watched and seen hundreds of car, camping, suv camping, city & stealth videos and vehicles, this is one of the most amazing ones I’ve ever! 👏
Thank you so much.
My mom did some interior design when I was a kid and she would use L brackets for everything - shelving, window treatments, lighting, mounting/hanging art, etc. My dad started making fun of her, when ever there was any problem he'd say to her, "Maybe it just needs an L bracket." This build proves she might have been right. We can solve a lot of problems with L brackets lol
😂❤
this is the most dad overland rig ever. i kind of love that though
I've seen a kid on a different channel that went overlanding with a cheap cooler, a camping chair, an inflatable mattress, and a portable grill in a pickup.
And then this! Simply amazing!!!!
People like me used to think that you need a $60,000+ rig to go places and experience the outdoors when we lose the real sight of the outdoors. 😊
Can't wait to do the same.
Some of those devices are the bomb! Fire extinguisher. Trauma kit vs. 1st aid. Lights.
WOW 😳 Amazing build!!! He covered everything you need. Very unique, cool accessories, organized, and yet very stealthy. Loved it!!!
A labor of love. Thank you.
This guy has absolutely nailed it.
This is the best set up I have ever seen…out of hundreds of videos! Bravo!
Think this is one of my favs so far! Kinda 'simple', well thought out, without a lot of construction, and very elegant, if that's the right word. Love the whole 'stealth' setup, including those 'flat' solar panels. Never heard of those solid-state fire extinguishers! Excellent setup imo!
This might be my favorite setup I’ve ever seen
Thanks Shawn!!
This man is an organizer GURU
More stuff I carry : Solar shower bag, back scratcher, P jar, night vision monocular, tire plugs, bear spray, paper map book,..
I like cream & sugar in coffee so I mix dry ingredients in a baggie. A spoonful in hot water saves time.
Obvious he's an experienced car camper.
The best build I have ever seen - Period. Expertly filmed, clear and concise. So many ideas I plan to borrow I lost count.
❤
I love that he does not have to show everything he has. I think most overlanders think they have to show off all their stuff and end up with way too much stuff.
100% agree.
Once I saw the forks over knives book, I knew this guy was smart. Great build!
"this is a bidet". 15:37
You got the WHOLE tour.
Awesome build! 🤙
Thank you!
This guy has thought of everything. what a genius! He has a treasure trove of great solutions and ideas. Great video Tristan!
Honestly of all the Toyota fanboy overlanding rigs I've seen decked out with all the "stuff", this is one of THE BEST set ups I've seen. Very stealth, very usable and simple. Well done!! I think you may get a huge blast of requests for that interior roof rack. You may want to make another video expanding on the exact items you ordered.
Will do!
@@JohnMason-Hill I agree about the interior roof rack. I was trying to design something and just nixed the Idea till I saw this setup. I would be a great place for my fishing poles and other accessories.
Bidet is GREAT!... solves the toilet paper problem and also hygienic. Also, great food choices, avoid food poisioning, easy to prep and low energy use and MOST healthy!!! Great build and video!!
wow this is an excellent APARTMENT you didn't miss anything, this is great education I am getting to fix my SUV. Thank you very much. I am 68 y/o. I've watch hundredths of videos, but yours is the best so far. I am gathering all the good information i need to start my journey , thank you, thank you, thank you God bless you for this. See you around
Thank you
I’ve been waiting for someone to kit out a 4Runner, because I hope to buy one for extended road trips - and Hot Damn! This was a complete Master Class! Lots of great ideas and products I’d never seen in any van or SUV build-out. Well done!
Wow! I have a minivan but I watched this video with a notebook! So many great ideas! Loved the solar setup. Thank you, Tristan and John!
You are so very welcome. Let me know if I can clarify anything for you.
John, I think I love you! You are even more OCD about 'What If' than I am! I mean, my family used to rent a house we all fit in at OBX or in Tennessee and the kitchens were never completely furnished. So I put together a traveling kitchen that fits in 3 big tote boxes and 2 small packs. It has spatulas, pancake turners, an inexpensive set of sharp knives with covers, tongs of different sizes, dish towels, dish brushes, scrub sponges, serving utensils, serving/storage bowls, cutting boards, dishrack, tray, oh, I don't remember everything, but it is pretty much a full kitchen except for the appliances. And the family has been glad of it! Having what you need is important because it adds to your enjoyment of the trip. And that is what you've done with your SUV. It is darned near perfect! And the limo tint on the windows is brilliant! I don't know if I could pack as light as you when it comes to clothing... That's when my OCD really kicks in. But this is one of the best builds I've seen and the best stealth build, hands down. I think it's all of the truly cool gadgets and geegaws you've installed. Your electric is genius. I think that I may love the changes you made to the rear hatch the most. Being able to open the hatch from the inside, by the hatch, and having a hatch window that opens...Brilliant! Reminds me of when we used to travel in our station wagon and I got to sit in the way-back seat and watched where we'd been.
This is definitely a high-class, gadget-filled, subtle SUV!
Wow! Thank you Jane. We use to have one of those station wagons growing up too. Loved backward facing seats.
@@JohnMason-Hill the back facing seats rocked! I'd get back there with my toys and books and the family forgot I was there. And I always had my pillow in case I got tired. I loved having that back window open too. Got a good breeze going.
Sir,
This is the very “BEST” off road SUV video I’ve seen yet. Truly.
This is the coolest stealth truck camper set-up I have EVER seen...CONGRATULATIONS John, PERFECT! Thanks for bringing us this Tristan!
Love the stealth and minimalist look. Such clean lines everywhere. Great explanations of all the details. I can feel the joy and pride!
Dang!!! That’s the most well thought out build i have seen to date! Nice! Thank you for sharing your design all your researched products!
John is not only a great overlander, but also an excellent presenter! I just spent 30mins of my life watching this video that feels like 3mins.
Wonderful layout, with some very practical and well-considered function and safety related tips. Many thanks for this one, and thank you for including links to items John uses.
I must have watched hundreds of setups and this one by far is the most efficient and well thought out setup ive come across so far. Loved it. Many thanks to John for sharing his knowledge.
Dude...you educated this 65 year Oldman. Awesome video. Grateful stay safe
Just amazing! I learned so much from this video. Thanks John for educating all of us who don’t have enough brain cells to think for ourselves. I’m a 74 year old and I love to go car camping. The simplicity of your ideas makes it wonderful!
What a well-thought out build! I love the stealthy "all black accessories inside" and the roof rack inside too! I'm gonna work some of those ideas into my build!
This build was very well done, with great ideas to share! Thank you both for putting this out there.
Thank you Brandon!
Learned so much! You are a wonderful teacher, John.🙏 Happy that you’re out there adventuring and putting all that wisdom to good use! And thanks, Tristan. Love your channel.💛
Is it wrong that the initially most impressive pieces FOR MY THINKING were the cutting board and the window/lock switches for the liftgate? This rig gave me so many ideas! Great work, John!
Thank you
Absolutely brilliant SUV set up!! Love all the gadgets John has found to make life convenient. Most I've never heard of, but I will be buying
Thank you!
Wow amazing build, so well organized and thought out! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Seb. See you down the road.
This is an amazing build! Well thought out and functional. Safe travels John!
It's so cool to see how organised everything is. That took some time and thought to put together! I appreciate it.
WOW! This is the best, most organized set up I have EVER seen! And I’ve seen a lot over the last five years. Some great ideas! Thank you to you and this fellow for great video.
Thank you!!
I saw this on John’s CZcams video. He went to even more detail on this video. John has given me many great ideas and if you blend your Land Cruiser build and Johns, I believe you have the perfect set up!!!
Love your channel and how you share others idea to help us came. This was a very useful video since John minimalist ideas are so useful. Thanks again.
Awesome! Always new ways and new Gadgets for different applications. I love seeing all the different ingenuity in peoples rigs. Great vid👍👍
Wow, this guy has everything. I love his set up and all his little gadgets x
❤
Seriously, I felt my jaw drop after paying attention to all of your thoughtful details. Great job fantastic rig. Thanks to you both for sharing.
Thank you so much.
I've watched many setups and build and this is the best! Love this!
Got to be one of the most informative videos and ingenious builds! THX
I so resonate with this guy's 8-inch mattress! In my 1998 Jeep I have an 8-inch mattress - so comfy - where his is 30-inches, mine is 27-inches. Clever stealthy build! It always amazes me how people outfit their vehicles for comfort and travel...you too, Tristan!
Thank you Gail.
Dude! He has it figured out! Most innovative and together I’ve ever seen! Thanks, Tristan for sharing all this cool stuff.
Thank you Jerry. I’m humbled by your words of praise.
Out of all the vehicles I owned and lived in in Los Angeles while maintaining a full-time office job was my 4Runner. Agreed that the back window is incredibly useful. When I owned a 2014 Subaru I lost space and missed that back window. When I do go travel I'm like him and I wash my clothes that night. Only thing I don't wash every night was my jeans since those don't dry quickly. When I do go for a week somewhere and travel with just my carryon I tend to have 3 outfits too many because I wash my clothing every night. I wish I outfit my 4Runner like this guy
Wow! I’m just now getting around to watching this as I was in Patagonia when you published it. Thank you thank you! This is probably one of the most useful videos I’ve ever seen on converting an SUV of any kind. I am saving this!
I watched this 3 times to gather all the details! A very impressive set up! Thank you John and Tristan for the inspiration!
You are so welcome Heidi.
I use my 4R for occasional car camping, picked up a lot of good tips on this one! Thanks!
Thank you!
The best explanation and demonstration of an outfitted stealth camping vehicle… I think I was holding my breath during the video- I was so enthralled.
This man is not only interesting, intelligent, eloquent, organized, and efficient, but also passionate and humble. Love it!!!
Thank you
Wow, pretty sweet rig, and that last bit about your suspension is fantastic! A true stealth vehicle! Enjoy your exploration.
Man. If I was just writing a SciFi movie, I'd hire this dude to design all my space ships! Excellent work.
That’s an awesome compliment. Thank you!
At least this is 4 runner is more realistic than any scifi movie😅
Awesome build! I love that interior roof rack!
Thank you. That roof rack gets a lot of love. See you down the road.
Excellent video. Never saw the safe before. Love the minimal and functional organization. Great build. Best of luck and thank you for sharing your rig.
☘️🌝🌲
This guy has thought of it all. So much wisdom packed into this vid. Thanks for making it.
Smartly done...indeed! Thanks for the video.
Really liked this walkaround. I have a 2018 4Runner that I sleep in the back of when I go on trips and there were some nice ideas in here. I couldn't get away with the mattress on the floor--have too much stuff that I need to have with me (including a lot of photography gear)--but it was an enviable setup!
Thank you John. Happy trails.
The 4Runner is such a great platform. Thanks for bringing us this well thought out "conversion."
Lots of great solutions in your setup! I am going to borrow a few for my 4runner stealth camping. Thanks for sharing!
One of the best over landing setups I’ve seen well prepared.
❤
This was a well thought out RV, next level for sure☺️
❤
One of the best for stealth living that I've ever seen. This guy should be on a Bob Wells vid. Alot of fun to watch, thanx.
Bob actually gave me many good ideas and I’ve been to his RTR. Great guy.
Super nice build and very stealthy. Lots of great and thoughtful ideas... Ready for a great expedition... Thank you for sharing an excellent build.
Good one. Thank you. 🌻
I also have a 4Runner. I wanted an indoor gym to use when desired. One of the components is overhead grips to use for inclined pullups and chinups. It works great. You can run a doubled rope between the helper handles, with the rope passing through two padded grips that slide back and forth. Or you can do something similar with a bar.
The rest of the gym consists of resistance bands, grip strength devices, and an adjustable hydraulic exerciser, which is much more versatile and useful than usually appreciated, especially if you get creative and make full use of the possibilities - the same can be said for resistance bands, bodyweight exercises, and dynamic tension exercises, including isokinetics, isometrics, and isotonics. Also various yoga and breathing exercises. If you make full use of the possibilities it's really surprising what you can do.
Wow! What’s your channel? I’d love to see your vehicle!
15:52 Very nice setup. I’m going to copy the inside roof rack for sure. One little thing that I would definitely do differently is separate the bidet from the food storage 😆.
I agree about the “bidet” in the food storage…also the toilet leaned up against the pillow!
One of the best vehicle setups I've ever seen. He is fully prepared. Also just subbed to his channel.
OK, that was your best one so far !
Thank you two both of you. 🌼
The 4runner is set up very well. I like it. The food on the other hand, would make me feel 30 years older. Give me a fridge full of ribeyes. Even less to deal with and feel better too. Carnivore baby!
This dude is ready for a flood, Solar storm, Alien invasion, Nuclear winter and Armageddon!
Very impressive set up! All well thought off. The best I have seen in youtube channel
