In the 70s, my parents bought an old victorian house on the westside. The sellers left a lot of old stuff that we as kids loved playing with including antique clothes and hats and toys. No doubt our stuff came from some of the stores in your video. This video makes my heart smile. Thank you!
A lot of nice buildings back then. The Susquehanna , Chenango , river. The lock systems for going all around . My great Grandfather was a fire man around 1900 . Loved his mustache he had .
Andy I remember you, we were in same class, visited your jouse once. We biked together once to Ostinango Park. Good to see ya, and yes. Ed this video is awesome. My house in town of Binghamton was built in 1870. There was a coal mine about 3/8 of a mile from me, its been sealed up a long time now. Whats cool about Main St near the Burger King & Giant, is the old trolly tracks. Troller was probably 40 or 50 years later than 1870. The language was a bit different, 3 out of 5 words were intelligible.. Elmira NY had the prison for confederate soldiers, heard conditions were aweful. The recession of the 1870s was shorter and not as bad as our "Great Recession" of 2007-2020. Our 2nd Great Depression 2020-TBA was on par with 1929 if not worse. Very nostalgic. Thnx Ed & everyone
@@TSnowy23 - the great depression of '29 through the 30's was much worse. My parents, especially my Mom who grew up on the East side, told me all about it and it was extremely bad. I could tell you what she told me, but it would take too much time. Many poor and suffering people. The WPA is what pulled everybody out thanks to FDR. Then WWII happened and even more hardship and suffering wirh the lack of supplies and necessities. Ration stamps weren't enough. More poor and homeless people again.

I had a couple of great uncles that lived in Binghamton during that time. They had barber shops on Water Street, I think.
1864 New State Hospital ... the huge building on top of the hill as shown in the drawing in the beginning of the video😊
Nice photos but the presence of telephone and/or electrical wires strongly suggests that some were taken well after the late 1870s.

Binghamton less than 10 years after the Civil War. A depressed economy with cold winter months and lots of snow.
