Battle of Berlin 1945 - Nazi Germany vs Soviet Union [HD]

- The Battle of Berlin, designated the Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation by the Soviet Union, was the final major offensive of the European theatre of World War II.
When the Soviet offensive resumed on 16 April, two Soviet fronts (army groups) attacked Berlin from the east and south, while a third overran German forces positioned north of Berlin. Before the main battle in Berlin commenced, the Red Army encircled the city after successful battles of the Seelow Heights and Halbe. On 20 April 1945, the 1st Belorussian Front led by Marshal Georgy Zhukov started shelling Berlin's city centre, while Marshal Ivan Konev's 1st Ukrainian Front had pushed from the south through the last formations of Army Group Centre. Concurrently, Hitler called for the activation of Operation Clausewitz on the same date. Defenses in Berlin's city center were mainly led by General Helmuth Weidling. These units consisted of several depleted and disorganized Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS divisions, along with poorly trained Volkssturm and Hitler Youth members. Within the next few days, the Red Army reached the city centre where close-quarters combat raged.
Before the battle was over, German Führer Adolf Hitler and many other major officials of the Nazi regime committed suicide. The city's garrison surrendered on 2 May, but fighting continued to the north-west, west, and south-west of the city until the end of the war in Europe on 8 May (9 May in the Soviet Union) as German units fought westward so that they could surrender to the Western Allies rather than to the Soviets. - Věda a technologie

It wasn't fair!Soviet people went through such a terrible time, famine, concentration camps, the destruction of their cities, 1/3 of every Soviet family died, ordinary Soviet citizens reached Berlin, and the Americans came out only in 1943 and wanted to take credit for the victory first and also completely take Berlin, where onThere has never been a single explosion in the United States.
I know and it’s so annoying. In the American schools they always talk about Normandy and that’s pretty much it. Never talk about Esstern side of war.
Almost 2/3 of the motorized vehicles apart from tanks and aircrafts that the Soviets used to blitz their way through occupied Poland and reach the Oder river delta between 1944-1945 were provided by the Americans and British. The allied destruction of Dresden in 1945 halted the transportation of potentially tens of thousands of troops to the Eastern Front that could have slowed the Soviets and given the Americans the chance to reach Berlin before the Red Army.
True, the rest of the Allies began a continental front relatively late, but it is much more realistic and prudent to begin the land deployment of millions of soliders after you have achieved air and naval supperiority than to try to rush it and risk hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths.
I hope this helped.
@@rennor3498 bullshit. il-2 and t-34 and katusha was made i usa?? what u talking about!?!
@@tomhardy4451 Didn't you read my comment properly? I said ''apart from tanks and aircraft''; basically vehicles like trucks and cars with synthetic tires that could traverse muddy fields, swamps and wastelands faster, thereby getting infantry to the battlefield before the enemy could entrench or bring in reinforcements.
The entire soviet industry was mostly mobilized for producing Katyusha rocket launchers, T-34, artillery, IL-2 as well as other types of aircraft. But these vehicles are for specific crews of up 2-4 men, these are not made for transporting infantry in the millions. You wouldn't be able to deploy even a million infantrymen across hundreds of kilometers with them even if you had a national arsenal in the tens of thousands; exclusing the aircraft part that is. The Soviet Union was constantly attempting to outgun the Germans in aircraft and tanks starting from 1943 onwards, to prevent the Wehrmacht's famous encirclements tactics that had happened during the early months of Operation Barbarossa. Thus, most of the resources and labour were deployed for increasing the output of the formentioned military equpment while neglecting vehicles made for infantry mobilization.
As the United States and United Kingdom where huge industrial powers that had only began to start their continental offensive, they had prepared huge outputs of transport vehicles so they could carry on assaults without delay. Starting from from 1942 and continuing to 1944, the Americans and British would provide almost 2/3 of the military trucks such as: Dodge WC51, Diamond T 968 and GMC CCKW and Bedford QL that would greatly contribute to the 1944 Soviet counteroffensive in Operation Bagration and later the conquest of Poland through late 1944 to early 1945.

Not every war can create a demographic abyss. My two grandfathers went through the entire war, from beginning to end. Even the Winter and Japanese wars passed. Most of us have no one left who could tell us about the horror of those days... when the world was drowning in blood and tears. Each of the soldiers was someone’s son, brother, husband, father... but not only men, but also women, children, old, disabled were subjected to bayonets... every ruin was a home for someone, a sacred place... memories, their value accumulates over the years. And to destroy it, it only takes a second... it hurts me to look into the faces of the soldiers. I understand that almost none of them returned. I want to cry, I want to scream as hard as I can, my heart aches at the thought of what kind of torment he went through... and he just smiles at me, as if saying, “Don’t see me off with tears. I’m fighting so that you don’t have to, for that so that you don’t cry, for the peaceful sky above your head, for the happiness of you and your loved ones.” I still can’t believe it, that such a war took place... we ourselves did this to each other! Wars can be started for any reason. And the result is always the same - devastation, death, hunger and grief.
