- Former U.S. Air Force Intelligence Specialist Monica Witt has been indicted for espionage. Witt is accused of defecting to Iran and providing Iranians with top secret information. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin joined CBSN with more.

A Specialist in the Air Force with that much Top Secret information is ridiculous and is the problem as for the junior Officer, these two may have been in a a relationship which once again would not be surprising.

If you have a clearance, for the most part there aren't many barriers to the information. There are tens of millions of people working for the Federal Government. To expect everything to be secret is what is ridiculous. Really almost nothing should be secret. Especially for a military superpower such as the US

I'm just thinking this could be some sort of twist where she's still in allegiance with the US and had herself publicly exposed in order to gain Iran's trust but still works for the US
This is unlikely since she has been so publicly outed. Iran will not be exposing anything of consequence to her, there would be no reason. They pumped her for info and once they got what they wanted they've either set her up with a place to live and income or possibly just kicked her to the curb. At this point she has nowhere left to go. Iran has no real obligation to care for her. She may well be living on the street begging for scraps right now.

The U.S. government is not int the habit of releasing stuff like this as soon as it happens. It didn't necessarily take 6 years to figure this out, it took 6 years to release this info for obvious reasons.
