- If you wanted to know how to make an appointment with a doctor in Spanish, this is your video. You will see me struggling to do so over the phone, but in Spanish. And well, struggling because I'm nervous, not because I don't know Spanish.
I made two appointments, one to a hospital I had been to before, and one I had never been to in my life!
I hope you get an idea of how to do it and hopefully it won't be too difficult for you to make your own appointment.

They always sound so angry here in Spain. I get scared and panic when i need to speak on the phone :( and then they get annoyed that my Spanish is bad.
Same! I think it's because we are always in a rush! So it's like: fast, say what you need and hang up!
I don´t think it has to do with you being foreigner . I am Spaniard and i found the first person who answered the phone quite rude. That´s not the way she should adress a pacient

Muy entretenido. Me gusta este tema porque he estado interesado en cómo yo haría cosas si viviera en un país de hispanohablantes. Como, he empezado a usar Google Maps en español para poder saber cómo preguntar a los nativos dónde están los lugares y lo que dicen. (Por favor, alguien avísame si me he equivocado gramaticalmente 🤪)

In the US, if I call my doctor, after going through the automated menu, I first have to state my name, date of birth, then my insurance. Then the staff checks my insurance and so I have to confirm my address and phone number.
Afterwards I have to describe my issue and only then do I get a date and time to see the doctor.

Me ponen nervioso a mí también hacer esas llamadas, aunque siempre pasen más rápidamente de lo que espero.
Igual, igual! Al final la llamada acaban siendo dos cortos minutos de sufrimiento después de otros treinta que te pasaste decidiendo si llamar o no llamar.

It was very interesting to hear the variations of telephone etiquette in Spain compared to Latin American Spanish. Of course we are very used to use the formal form of address here. It is permissible to use Doctor + [nombre] here, especially if your last name is impossible to say in Spanish :-)

in latin america the spanish is softer. at least in colombia people are more friendly. in spanish people sounds very rude

How does it work with surnames in Spain? I understand that people have there 2 surnames from parents but if one parent has 2 surnames and another has also 2 surnames then you get 4 surnames? Maybe it is a foolish question but I just wonder how much surnames can you collect. Nice video by the way.
you only get the first surname of each parent, so you just have 2 total.

Last year when I made an appointment for the covid vaccine and I said "Yeah I'd like to make an appointment for the vaccine" and they're like "What vaccine?" and I'm thinking "Oh no did I get the wrong number oh no awkward" and I'm like sweating and then I say "Isn't this the doctors office" and they're like "Yeah" but then just proceed to say nothing.
So then I was like confused and just silent until they're like "We offer many different vaccines I assume you want the covid vaccine?" and I hear giggling. Jesus Christ this is why I hate making appointments...

Madre mia! MUCHO más difícil si no hablas muy bien el español...Lo más frustrante que tengo que hacer en España. Se niegan a contestar email, insisten solo en llamadas telefónicas y hablan muy rápido; un verdadero desafío para mí.
Yo les pediría que me hablasen despacio, tienen que notar tu acento y tienen que darse cuenta que te cuesta entenderles.

I don't remember why I said it, but pa que is short for para qué, and its very colloquial, I use it all the time
