Very likely that the Princess thought she caused too much misfortunes to the Prince and she did not like the poisonous infightings in the palace so she took the "fake death" potion she made to fake her own death to get away from the Palace but allowed the Prince to be free to return and taken care by his royal family. Who know a 2nd series may have a better ending. An enjoyable drama nonetheless.
