Mei Mei is the only cartoon character I actually supported teen rebellion in because her mother really was WAAAAAY TOO MUCH and I genuinely felt mortified for Mei Mei quite a few times.

actually the movie shows that some parents are pretty protective toward their children, they thought if they do that their children will be protected however, they're actually "locking" their child from being themselves, this cause stressed and even depression for the children because they have to be "perfect" in their parent's eyes all the time. I really enjoyed the movie for that one reason, I hope this movie become a lesson for overprotective parents out there. Your child isn't a puppet, you should know that

They can learn better coping mechanisms, but they will always have trauma and will regret never being able to enjoy their youthful years. Children are in the most important years of their lives, it’s absolutely critical you treat them correctly and do your best to provide a safe and loving environment where they feel free to be themselves. Some parenting mistakes are of course fine, and don’t really cause long term damage despite popular belief. But actual harmful parenting tactics and known tendencies that people use are legitimately harmful and can cause children to have permanent stress and develop worse mental issues as they grow older. We want to see our children become the best they can be. So we have to do our best to provide them the best possible environment, and not just assume we know better. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I’d rather spread what I have learned than keep it to myself.

Children aren't perfect, they're gonna make mistakes and have likes and dislikes. Putting that much pressure on a child and forcing them to be "perfect" is just going to harm their mental state and self worth. That damage doesn't go away either, that damage is going to affect them for the rest of their life. A parent should know better than to treat their child like a like a puppet, their child is their own person with their own mind, not a being for them to control. If this is the mindset you have when it comes to a child's mental health, I sincerely hope that you don't have children and don't plan to have any in the future. That is borderline child abuse.

Even WITH context this movie is just plain weird because aside from the red panda stuff this movie is very grounded in reality which just makes the red panda stuff even MORE weird.

I just love the whole design of Meimei's mother as a Panda. She got the same hairstyle, her friggin' BEAUTY MARK! And her fur is all in pointy waves like ancient chinese paintings, its perfect!
