    Hold up there dude on my engineering programming specifically on kerf ports it does increase the port velocity I've done the tests with dry ice and also the engineering tools so you can't say that that's not entirely true it does look beautiful and it puts a nice touch on an enclosure however it does increase Port velocity you do have to account for the tuning aspect of it because it'll go up and you have to extend into the enclosure but you can definitely account and calculate for that

      @ddtstrc9678 Před 2 lety +2

      Shouldn't a kerf port decrease port velocity not increase it.

      @@ddtstrc9678 yes and no it will increase the velocity at the kerf cause you can take in more air and have smoother transitions, but you have to have the kerf on the inside of the encloser aswell however you have to make sure your not trapping the air on the inside of the encloser at the same time. For me and all the enclosures I build for my customers I spend about 2 weeks of engineering with three programs to get Port area Port velocity and DB of rise properly dialed in according to the true TS parameters of the woofer and not just what the company says they are I usually try to pull them myself using the dats v.2 module and program. Also just a quick background I've been working with a close friend who is a sound engineer that's been in this field professionally for over 30 years and have been building for 8 years this year to shed some light on the subject.

    I appreciate your insight and honestly! I love the way a Kerf port LOOKS, but I have never heard it sound any smoother than a slotted port. But I will say, when I used to build my own boxes (20+ years ago when I competed DB Drag Racing), I always used Aero Ports or 3-4" PVC with Aero Port end caps, the bass transition was always smoother....more musical...then slotted ports became popular because they were cheaper to create, and easier to tune...but never sounded as good to me....and I knew this before everybody started relying on computer programs...I built and tuned by ear. Glad I'm not the only fabricating genius in the game J/K ;-)

    Appreciate the feedback on the port reason i was asking is i built a Center verticle kerfd port box kerfd outside and inside the box as well and thats what i had in mind when i built it trying to mimic an areoport thinkin id gain a little more velocity across the port what i done is went by jl audio port area for the w7 12 and doubled it or close to double centerway of the port since i was running 2 12s widthwise i done 3.6 inches side to side from port wall to port wall firing subwoofers up the inside of the kerf is 1.8 inches from the side section of the box and flares back 7 inches the one thing ive noticed on a lot of kerfd enclosures is there not kerfd inside the box and they lose a lot of low end response i like to squeeze each chamber but your right i cant calculate exactly on cubic space but i know each chamber was at 2.2 cubes before kerfings going by the lines i drew out which is bigger than jl recomends for the w7 12 but that was for tuning at 36 hertz for me 34 is my sweet spot and all i can say is i got lucky 147.3 ar 40 hertz on ssa meter winshield score with driver door open most boxes ive built before would muddy those low notes but the more i crank the volume the louder it gets ive done a lot of sound deading in my f 150 tho what made all the difference is me flipping my box around with the port torwards the back of the cab but my poor ole w7s give out every 6 months on those jl slash 1000 amps and i beat the brakes off of them but i dont mind building them this ill be the 3rd time in 5 yrs and i must say you havent rebuilt a subwoofer until you build a w7 tight tolerences alls im sayin but i likem.Anyway Keep up the good work bro!

      My idea is to fit the enclosure into the rear cargo area, behind the third seat. Down in the subfloor where the 3 row seat would fold flat. I also want to build a loading board over the exposed magnet, as I often load the van for flea market sales. I really want to use it as a demo for flea market car audio brands.

    Out of the two port the lower port that has the lip has and slapper responds. The lower port has more volume than the top port because the divider is 3/4 of a inch higher. Giving more freedom to the lower port and a different tune. Basically two different tune ports that looks identical to the eye

    I have a question so are you saying if the port is a few inches lower than when it should the kerf will be more effective. My two 12 box I build had side slot port. That was wide enough but 7 inches short of reaching 24 inches long. Presently I added a divider to retune the port making it a dual square port with 4 kerf side to each port. And to add back pressure I've done a 1 1/2 inch lip on the lower port.

    • @blakebrockhaus347
      @blakebrockhaus347 Před 2 lety

      Basically, a kerfs only purpose is to prevent chuffing when the port area is too small. This allows you to tune lower with a smaller port volume and smaller box

    • @M.B.Enclosures
      @M.B.Enclosures  Před 2 lety +1

      @@blakebrockhaus347 disagree…that is why the tune is off …only a aero port allows the box to be slightly smaller. Kerf is cosmetic it doesn’t help but it can hinder port area if not accounted for

    Once again you are wrong air does move in and out of the box and it does this because of the vibration of the air along with an object moving this object is the sub.
    Put something in front of the port I 100% guarantee you that it will be
    pushed and pulled. Also air most definitely does come out of the box idk why you don't understand this when you see it happen on a daily basis.
    You may be a box designer and builder but you are lacking physics and it shows.

    • @M.B.Enclosures
      @M.B.Enclosures  Před 2 lety

      The column of air in the port is reacting with the outside air, it appears it moving in and out out only the dense volume of air in the port is moving within the port. You may need to study more.
