Such a good speaker but still does not forget to advertise her credentials.

I would say that celebrated literary critics such as Prof. Spivak are in no need of advertising their credentials - as everyone is already aware of them. Sometimes we all speak about our accomplishments and previous work simply as ways of establishing reference points, and making a connection with our audiences - nothing more. Good point for you however to be aware of the 'hidden bias' - as it's likely hiding there in most of us. But then most of us only hope to reach even some small measure of the accomplishments of Prof. Spivak. I say when you and i are at the same level of intellectual accomplishment and social contribution - that earns us the right to critique her - we do so; and not until then.

I say that cynical statements intended to establish hierarchical superiority over the intellectual greats will not fool anyone - it's almost like saying 'good effort' to Gandhi, Malcolm X, Zoroaster, Jesus or Buddha; we can pretend that we are their equals, but nearly everyone will know better. Similarity - and please excuse me as i am not familiar with you work - i very much doubt that it's at the level of Prof. Spivak's, simply because it's very hard to get at that level of cohesiveness and insight. For people like you and me, i would suggest to simply, work harder - and to resist 'building our brand', that miasma of the modern world, with empty and meaningless utterances.
