- I had the opportunity to install a lift kit on a customers 2008 Subaru Outback. This cool kit came from Anderson Design and Fabrication and it included everything needed to lift the car 2 inches.
I also installed a set of larger A/T tires and did an alignment after installing the kit to ensure that everything was setup correctly.
This kit looks great, and the customer is super happy with the job!

Best ADF lift kit install video on youtube, the only error I spot was when you said H goes toward the front, H actually goes toward the hood, but I knew what you meant, and you should be able to read the logo when looking at them from the front of the car with the hood up.
Yup!
Thanks for putting this video together! Great stuff...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always do an alignment.
Nice vid!
Yes! Thank you!
Very cool project , and a great job . I love those Subaru wagons . My sister had one similar she bought new several years ago . No issues at all the 5 years she owned it
Other than the head gaskets they are decent cars. They are great in the snow and get OK gas mileage
Great video, I'm about to buy a Legacy (I can't find a good Outback with manual transmission and Lo/Hi where I live) and plan to lift it just 1-2". I really appreciate that you use a tripod/stand for the camera, many videos like this have a friend holding the camera and it wobbles, gets out of focus, etc.
New subscriber here 😁
Thanks for the kind words. I do try to make sure that these videos are clear, well lit and of use. Glad it worked!
the legacy has lo/hi? did you ever end up finding one
@@ace7912 yup, I bought a Legacy 2005 with Hi/Lo. Since I later got the chance to upgrade to a newer daily driver, I went for a 2014 Forester XT, and they only come with CVT as far as my limited knowledge tells me. I am super satisfied with the XT tho, with a Stage 1 chip tune I got a "WD-40 vehicle" that does everything for me. DD to/from work in any weather, some light off-roading, overtaking in a jiffy, room for Great Danes, and more 😁
The Legacy is now our backup car, and I have a set of 30mm pads to get more clearance that'll go on in the summer -24. Pretty awful (IMO) weather here in Sweden now, but I feel rock steady on any surface with my Forester 👌.
Happy Holidays!
Pretty awesome, second time watching the video to familiarize myself with the process as I just ordered the same ADF kit. I previously ordered new KYB shocks and the KING springs and your video helped with that installation. Let the customer know that when it's time for new struts to get the rear from the 00-04 as they are stronger. The combo of the new KYB's and KING springs give it that nice OE+ feel, comfortable on the road and more capable when needed
Glad it was helpful!
Extraordinario video, nuevo suscriptor 👍🏻
Thanks!
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!
I followed your instructions and the installation was not at all as difficult as i anticipated. The only issue was i noticed a knocking coming from the rear and found that the exhaust was hitting the support where it passed under the diff. Mine is an outback xt and has dual exhaust. That might be the issue.
That could be the difference of why it was hitting a bit. Thanks for the information.
I watched the video through and should’ve taken note of all tools used. Is there a condensed list of the necessary tools? I might rent air tools for convenience but should have all the others. I’d like to do this on my 05 as a project with the hubs!
Now it’s ready for the backwoods ! I may have a tow package that will fit it , then they can take a 4 wheeler along
She may be interested!
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs When I return to the hills I’ll get it and take measurements , or let you ; you’re more familiar with that kinda thing
I got a 2000 Subaru Legacy GT
, e tune, AWD, twin turbo, Japanese import, right hand drive. Figured out how to put a 5 inch lift on, got 265/70/17(31 inch tire), going to have to cut a bit with the ol' grinder but I'm fine with that, car is a write off but still in good shape should be sweet when it's done
That will look SWEET! Good luck!!
Great video, really aucconct and comprehensive. Want ro lift my legacy 06 also. Thanks!
How do you imagine wear to CV joints going in the future for this vehicle..? Or hubs? I have no idea. Be interesting to see. Cheers from Spain ❤
Hubs have held up OK, but I have replaced one CB axle due to inner joint wear.
yellow circles on tyres is the lightest part of tyre so go by the valve or you will need heavier wieghts to balance tyre
Thanks for sharing that
Hi mate Matt from the outback of Australia 🦘 good to see you working on a Subaru outback I've gone through several of them I've even hit kangaroos at 120 k's an hour and they still keep working I get half a million ks out of them I don't service them or really look after them I've even put them in dams and then got them going they're one good car just don't tell my grandparents that I like a Japanese car
Ha, that secret will be safe with me.
How important is it to run the lateral link spacers? I only got the 2 inch lift.
I have the same exact car and want that lift installed. I am also in NC and would be interested in having you do it for me since you have the experience already. How can I reach you?
Does this height change handling characteristics significantly? About to do full swap of all 4 struts, so might be a good time to do it all.
I was worried that it would, but I'm happy to say that it didn't. Neither I or the customer noticed any change.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Thank you and thanks for the detailed, easy to follow vid.
Where to buy lift kit internet ?
What about the front link kits?? Still fitting with those front spacers?
Yup. No need to extend those.
How is that going to effect the cv joints? Years ago we had issues with that
The kit I bought was chosen specifically because it doesn't raise the car enough to mess with the axle angles. Any more than 2 inches and there starts to be vibrations or worse on these models.
I'm wanting to do this to my 05 obxt. but I'm worried about ride and gas mileage. I drive 90 miles a day and need to keep up the mileage.
The customer reports no change in mileage. The ride is nearly the same, even with the aggressive A/T tires on it.
Would 225/65/r17 fit on the exact same setup you worked on in this video?
I think the bigger sizes were on the limited- I am not sure if they would work here
Those new tires are 225R60/17. Do you think 225R65/17 would be too big?
I don't know. It's pretty tight already.
I tried to loosen some bolts from the bottom of my 2000 outback n it was frozen as welded!
Rusty? That may have been a "Fix". Sorry to hear it.
Hey man, new to your channel. Hope I get an answer to this wuestion but is it posible to dp a 2 inch lift with just the strut spacers and not the cradle?. Thanks.
On the front, yes, on the rear, no. The Axle angle would be too far off and damage would happen.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Just sold my 05 outback 3.0r that I just bought last week. I don't think I'll be able to do the rear lift, just by looking at what you where doing. Haha. Thanks for responding.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Now that I sold it. In your opinion, what's the best subaru that has the least parts to breakdown, leak, etc... Thanks.
I have a question for anyone who installed the 2 inch lift. Have you had your Outback make grinding noise after install? Im having that issue on the driver’s front when I accelerate and stops when i take my foot off the accelerator. It is the base model manual transmission
Did you figure out what happened? You may have pulled the axle out too far?
Mine never did.
Did you have to replace the head gasket in this one?
Yes, at 86K
They're rubber!
Audio level just a little low in the initial moments of video. Improved later.
It's still a work in progress. Even after all these years I have yet to find a decent lapel mic. This is as good as it gets using a stock mic in the Sony camera I use. I have learned a few tricks when editing the videos to raise up lower sounding areas, but that only helps so much.
At 12:30, what was the purpose of punching the nut with the hammer?
You need to deform the lip of the nut it acts like a lock washer as you hammer the lip into the slot on the axle.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs thank you so much!!
How does it drive?
I really don't notice a difference from stock
where did you buy this kit? 🙂
The link is in the description.
Thanks 🙂🇮🇸
How much was it for u to put it on and where are u located
I don't install lift kits anymore, but this one took about 5.5hours so you can figure 100 an hour times that, plus the kit.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Any particularly reason you don't install lift kits anymore? (seems you made that comment only a few months after this videos release...)
I have this exact model outback, and I want a couple inches lift, how much do people charge for this generally?
I am not sure, most shops charge $100 per hour and this would take them 4 hours I am guessing.
Anyone know the alignment specs?
Due to the nature of the kit. Stock specs are kept.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Ooooooooooooo that’s great thank you 🙏🏽
