- British Airways Flight 5390 was a flight from Birmingham Airport in England for Málaga Airport in Spain. On June 10, 1990, the BAC One-Eleven 528FL suffered explosive decompression resulting in no loss of life. With the aircraft flying over Didcot, Oxfordshire, an improperly installed windscreen panel separated from its frame, causing the plane's captain to be blown partially out of the aircraft. With the captain pinned against the window frame for twenty minutes, the first officer landed at Southampton Airport.
Scary and incredible that the pilot survived and everyone else. It’s a miracle.
A miracle indeed, praise the Lord!!
the last time he ever didn't wear a seatbelt
he was wearing a seatbelt, but he wasn't strapped in on his shoulders. (edit: typo)
The bottom line is the window would have never blown out, if the correct screws were used to install the new window. The engineer admitted that he didn't use the correct screws. This is another testament when short-cuts are taken or when inferior products are used.
Wow, cool you found a report on this accident!
I do know a bunch about Flight 5390 and it is miraculous the captain survived his ordeal and the flight managed to land safely. :)
I saw a picture on Instagram. I thought it was fake. Glad to see the old news getting reported here
And people think sully is the best!? I'd rather see a movie about this instead. Holy sugar!? ❤
Both are miracles.. whe compare them?
There was a documentary film made about it, if you're interested?

Did the fitter who installed the wrong windscreen bolts, without checking the parts catalogue first, get the sack after this incident ?
He should've went to prison
It was an Manager who didnt have knowledge of this topic and installed wrong screws just 0.66mm to small. The supervisor even warned him that he doesnt have enough knowhow and is not qualificated enough but the manager ignored
@@hallg07the problem was also the working environment. When people are pushed to go too fast/ are overworked, corners get cut where it shouldn't
"the open cockpit door".....
According to interviews with the crew at the time, the situation was so chaotic and intense that the cockpit door was ripped off its hinges.
It was in the '90s...Back then the cockpit door was often open.
it wasn't locked, and it was often used during flight, and young people were invited up to see out the front of the plane in flight if they wanted. But no, they didn't ever leave it open as far as my memory serves and I flew from the 70's til now on commercial airlines. Now, smaller planes don't have a door, so the curtain would be drawn during flight@@BlueSkyUp_EU
@@BlueSkyUp_EU wild times... Thanks a lot Obama.. wait.. no the other one..
Cockpit doors are meant to blow open at a depressurisation
Is it me? Or has anyone noticed that this same voiceover has been used for other news reports as well even in today's world?
Yes. Dennis Murphy is often featured on Dateline NBC.
Must've been a Boe-ing
Zach D film😅
I wonder how coloring black and white footage is colored 🤔
Why are the pilots not belted in ? 😮😮😮
They were, but only partly. At 23k feet, it's usually okay to take off the shoulder belt (Leaving only the lap belt) because that's only required when taking off or landing.
The lap belt however must be worn at all times if they are seated.
Captain seriusly injured
