Hi Richard I’ve been watching your channel for over a year now. Always look forward to your vids. I watch Simon bloke in the woods and Kent survival and most of the other wild campers it’s a mystery to me why your not right up there you have a great sense of humour and you obviously love what you’re doing just keep doing it don’t change what you do just for more subs 😁😁😁👍

Richard, just continue with a bit of camping, a bit of cooking, a bit of trying out gadgets, a bit of craftsmanship, a bit of british landscape, a bit of mishaps 😂. I love it. Cheers from Holland, Henk.

Me and the Mrs love your vids for the familiar format and that ‘if Richard can do it then why can’t I’ vibe. You don’t push the latest expensive gear, you don’t count every last gram and you don’t use camping out as an excuse to down ten cans of beer. That we like.
You are a virtual friend, pal, mate, who takes us on adventures with him and we thank you for that.

RICHARD! You don't have to ask what you can do to make things better you are such a nice man and your videos are always professional and entertaining. Don't worry what others tell you to do or how to do things be RICHARD, unique and different, you have listened to people already and your format has changed like the pre video intro which really isn't needed, personally I miss your humour that was always brilliant, but most of all be YOU, and be proud of what you do and don't worry what people say or you will loose heart.
Oh while we are discussing you lol, I for one am really interested in your career and your job and your background all of these things added to your channel would make you appeal to a wider audience. I hope that all makes sense.
    Keep up the brilliant work.
    Thanks

I personally love your blooper reels at the end of some of your videos. No need to change much. We all love food prep in the woods. Maybe throw in your pets a little more. One thing I love about some UK wild campers are the history lessons mixed into some videos. Just a few thoughts, glad to see you back out. That's what's important! To good health...cheers

I know you could never be lucky enough to catch Nessy twice, so I wanted to share some more practical thoughts. The camping videos I enjoy share a few elements. It starts with a host that is obviously enjoying himself. Then it's about pretty scenery, some kind of interesting and unique adventure, and it's nice to see a cozy camp setup.

I like the DIY projects and GAW that reach over seas. Because your public is world wide. Also i like you to promote the local businesses like that beer brewer and the guy that makes his own coffee brand. Also keep the easter eggs like Simons pictures popping up so now and then. I liked the one with the darts sticking in his face.

Have no idea how to grow the channel I'm afraid, I really enjoy the variety of content - the making, cooking, camping and the rest, and you come across as a genuine decent character. here are some suggestions for what they are worth:
    a biking camping trip/overnighter/multi-day
private plane fly into a remote spot and bushcraft a couple days
a no talk just let the camera do the story overnighter (your photography skills are very good)
a simple survival skill video using only what you have made with limited food and one camera
a canoe trip by yourself or with someone - to piggyback on what you did and learned last year on the Scotland "raise awareness" trip you participated in - that was enjoyable to watch on everyone's channel
anyway hope those are some helpful ideas - thanks for the great photography I always enjoy seeing the journey and the surroundings of England

Hi Richard, I’ve been watching your videos for some time now and I have been a subscriber almost since you started your channel. Your videos have helped me through some bad times in my life and watching the passion you have for camping and your videos, has really shown me the simple joys of life and how much joy you get from the simple pleasures of life.
In regards to expanding, this will come with time. Please don’t change what you are doing as this is what I and I am sure, other love about your videos. They show camping for what it is, sometimes good, sometimes less then ideal. Your sense of humour makes me constantly laugh, especially when you show the little fails along the way. I still laugh at the time you almost fell into the lake when you caught a salmon.
Take care, be safe and keep on enjoying the outdoor life.

Such gorgeous shots from above with lovely wondrous musical accompaniment!
You do have your own style of camping and that's probably why I watch and subscribe. It's not survival, not dramatic adventure, but it's quiet adventure...the kind I enjoy myself when camping out in the garden (which I do as often as possible.) Even in a village, sleeping out is a different kind of overnight experience. You are a good sport Richard, you gracefully accept what nature throws at you. I like it when you make things, love your cooking, especially the camp curry/just add water dish...and your dry sense of humor....all good!

A lot of your kit is out of my price range but it’s still good to learn about it. The reason I I keep coming back to your channel is your laid back nature and personality as well as your ability to not take it too seriously. Keep doing what you enjoy and then your enjoyment and passion will come across. I'm not a great fan of the making stuff videos but then I'm sure others love them.
I find it difficult to give time to long videos. Bushman and Blue has started producing very long videos and I've pretty much given up on his channel because of that which is a shame. I think 20-30min is perfect unless it's a very special event.
I'd also advise to try and forget about the numbers and chasing subscribers. I see that happening with some channels and they're losing the reasons why they started in the first place.
Just keep creating and the numbers will come naturally 👍🙂

Richard, I am answering your request for a comment on video content vs increasing subscriptions. I would suggest that as much as possible always include as much of the journey as possible with the camping part of the video. The adventure videos are always the most interesting when you have a vision of what you believe you are going to enjoy and you take us on that journey. You are always fun to watch but your best videos are the journeys. Tony Dowler

Well Richard here’s my Pennyworth for what it’s worth; I came over to your channel from Simon bloke in the woods! And I’ve been very pleasantly ‘surprised’, not only wild camping, Drone footage, but all sorts of wonderful things! Designing a fire trough and mini too making it and marketing it as well, not to speak of your instructive videos of making stuff as well as topping it all off with some Michelin cookery too! Not even to speak about your profession of as Pilot and all that goes with that too! In other words a very broad cross section of outdoor life and all that goes with it! I’ll never tire of your channel I can assure you! Keep going on doing what you’re doing as far as I’m concerned! Good luck with your Subs! ⛺️🎮🛸🦉🍷👣👍😎

Nice video Rich. What I like about your videos is the honesty. I like how raw they are, you don’t hide mistakes, you clearly love doing it and I like the honest approach. Some successful channels are very much fake to gain views or sell out to companies for advertising and free gifts. I bet you are exactly the same in person as you come across in your videos.

As you know mate I'm one of your biggest fans and love the channel with everything you do from the overnighters the cooking and making knife handles and other things you've made. I have a couple of ideas for more viewers... The best way would be to have a joint camp with another Utuber like you've done in the past that way your getting on their channel free advertising if you like but works both ways. Another idea how about a live Q & A session but I don't know how hard that is but I think it would be very interesting. Keep it up fella you enjoy what you do 10k will come eventually 👍😁👍

  • @thedaftestnameicouldthinko8233

To start, I must say that your videos are enjoyable to watch and interesting. There’s an awful lot of people climbing a hill, camping overnight and then going home. I’ve lost interest in that style of video. Yours are different enough to hold my attention. Based on that thought, the first suggestion is trips of more than one night - when you can! Making things and cooking can also be the beginning of an interesting video but watching bushcrafters prepare firewood has lost all appeal. I enjoyed the videos of your stop over and could handle more of those. Retrieving crashed drones is also entertaining.

  • @martinmclure3537
    @martinmclure3537 Před 2 lety +1

Hi Richard, reluctant suggestion is in here, but my wife and I both really enjoy your honest videos, showing when a tent is difficult to set up, or burning your mouth on a fresh cuppa. We love the humour and the informative nature of your videos, and your enthusiasm, and drive to tackle the canoeing challenge. Thinking about what else you could add, we think your videos are great as they are but could I suggest (as we would like to hear more) that as well as listing all the great items you use at the end of your videos, you maybe select one or two during the videos and 'rate' them, not like out of 10 but like the stand for roasting the meat, a wee mention of where you got it (which you did) and then how versatile it is, it'll take a pan, you can toast bread.....so on. I know we can see how good it is, but it helps viewers see your enthusiasm for stuff you recommend us to use, without obvious product placement. You might want to try that, but we think your videos are entertaining and we sit and watch You, Andy (KS) and Simon (a BITWs) every week. When your video isn't there we really miss it. Same with the other 2.
Most important, its your video, don't stop enjoying what you do

Hi Richard. I bought your mini trough t'other week and am gloating about it. It's bigger than I thought it would be, but not complaining!! Haven't actually got it dirty yet, mind you, but can't wait to try it. Gathering sticks, I am. About you subscriber numbers. I watch for your lovely humour. The format of camp, fire and cook, by default is inevitably repetitious. The trip to the tarn was delightful for the scenery, and you being more 'on the edge' was an attraction. I think adventurousness combined with humour rather than focussing on kit might be a way to go. Show off the Penines to its best, perhaps. But what do I know, I wouldn't even manage what you do. its taken me all winter to make decisions about what should go in my EDC pouch!!

People write a lot of nice things in the comments and they are all true. Your work is brilliant. Some of my favorite channels, except from yours of course, are Nagualero (rest in peace), "archnemesis" Simon, a bloke in the woods, WildGreen Johanna and newbie Jem Outdoors. I'm all about the journey. Parking your car, walking 500m, put up a tent and cook is not enough. Anybody can do that. Look at some of the most viewed videos from Nagualero. The solitude in combination with bad weather is a hit. You should put "wildcamping in snowstorm" in the videodescription of all your videos. Your "Great Glen Canoe Challenge" videos are my favorites. For me it's all about the journey, experiences, ups and downs, unfiltered and sensire.

I love to find your videos and usually drop everything to watch! You always bring a smile, you're real in the sense that even "screw ups" are included and handled with humor. The inclusion of drone footage is always welcomed. And your cooking looks delish! Hard to know what to suggest except perhaps more venues - wild camping - partnering with the Bloke in the Woods (or canoe) Simon. Maybe your channel is simply hard to find? Don't understand all the algorithms involved. But all the hard work is paying off in lovely high quality videos with varied content...and OMG! Thanks for being such a decent person, and yes! We stand with Ukraine! Looking forward to the magical 10,000!

Richard, your videos are always well done, entertaining, and helpful as well. Not sure how you could improve, but more videos are always a good thing! Love the cooking bits, especially new ideas I can try at camp. Collaboration videos can also be entertaining as well. Thanks for sharing your videos, appreciate the work that goes in to them! 😊

Well, Julie's suggestion is maybe an occasional visit from your dog, particularly when there's been an "Incident with the dog in the camp time", such as your reflective heat guard alluded to today. Your food always looks a treat, the occasional oddball you throw in appeals so we don't know what else to suggest!
    Keep it up though.

Ok here goes: your USP (apart from being a very personable bloke) is your military background and your flying skills. I think that is an area that could be utilised. Also you have serious skill sets ( like Simon, tall bloke in the Woods 😉) in making stuff, and that could always be a good ‘series of series’ demonstrating leatherwork, sewing lessons ( a massively needed skill), repairs etc., Keep up the good work and great vids - looking forwards to seeing you hit the 10k mark and beyond.

HI Richard. Are you up for a CHALLENGE? I only eat plant based food, how well do you think you would handle a meat free cookout as a one-off?
Could you manage a plastic free wild camp? What items could you manage without and make on site with your ace knife you made? What meals can you prepare by including some foraged ingredients? What else can you make?
I love your channel, and the funnies you include are the best. I don’t think you need to change anything really, the biggest draw for me to a camping channel is to see what YOU guys love to do, and the enthusiasm, and genuine enjoyment evident in your videos. Good to see you out there camping again, wishing you health and happiness.

    Always enjoy all your videos.
I mainly watch Paul Messner, Andy from Kent Survival, Simon Bloke and also the English Woodsman and his mate Oscar.
Think more meet ups is the best way to grab more subscribers, especially with Simon as you both seem 2 peas in a pod.
Only recently found the Wiltshire Man due to Paul Messner, never came across him even though I'm also a biker, like photography and most camping videos. The infamous CZcams algorithm missed him for some time for me...
Keep up the good work !!

You have a super channel and great content and you come over as a great guy. Your content is better and more varied than loads of other Tubers. Maybe part of the problem is you don't shine in a single video? Maybe it's that fickle CZcams algorithm you hear about? Maybe we loyal viewers ought to hit the like button more? It's no use asking us viewers because we already love it!
Watch some of your real early videos because there definitely was a spark that maybe you have matured out off. Then again if you try to manufacture something that is natural that could be a big mistake. Your natural now.
All I can say is don't let the unfairness of CZcams spoil the enjoyment of what you do, as long as you want to do it. 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi Richard. Great video. Inspiring food to cook again. What I particularly like about your videos are the talking heads - it comes across that you are talking to an audience of one not close on 10k. Plus the little mishaps aren't hidden, they are included which adds to the honesty and fun factor. Good stuff all round - you will reach the 10k subscribers very soon. Meanwhile I will keep using your ideas to help on how to improve my own channel. Best wishes.

I watch most of you videos, not so much the make it or reviews but all of the camping ones. I enjoy watching you doing what you love doing and the enjoyment you receive from your experience and of course the food you prepare. There are a lot of people making camping and bushcraft videos, some have a specific purpose to their videos and channel, others film what they enjoy doing, both make the considerable effort to share their experiences. Some have given up because they turned a hobby into a job and no longer enjoyed the filming and editing for the sacrifice of living the experience they were having. My advice is to do what you love to do, if you choose to share it then thank you. The truth of how you feel about what you are doing is visible and when you are enjoying yourself, as a viewer, I am able to enjoy along with you. Thanks and kind regards Luke.

Hi Richard, really like to watch most of the films you make. Positives are the humour, especially in the earlier ones with the hand in the fridge and photo of Simon in the woods etc. Films are well shot and generally good camera work (you always point out the bad shots!). Why I don't think you are getting more subscribers is not enough outdoors ( its the channel name) and not enough locations. Even the other tubers who use the same location try and make it look different i.e. Kent survival. Have 2 channels, one for the making outdoor equipment, reviews and the main one for the camps or walks. Have been watching a lot of hidden valley bush craft and he always uses his experience as a Royal Marine as a bit of an added story line. As Ex RAF, why not talk about some survival skill you learnt as a pilot and use this in the titles to promote the films. Keep going as I believe you can be a success (you have 9.5k subscribers and I don't even have a channel yet!), you have good presentation skills and are always entertaining . Hope this helps in some small way.

I like what you do and the way you do it. If there was one thing I’d like more of, if possible (and i know security might impinge on this) a bit more of your flying would be interesting. But you’ve got a good mix, with outdoors, gear testing, and DIY projects of all sorts with modest tool requirements. I hope you hit that ‘magic’ 10,000 soon. Les

Hi Richard, I do enjoy your videos and frankly getting to almost 10 K subscribers is actually quite an accomplishment and something that you should be proud of; with time and patience I can see you grow to 50 K subs or more. Now, if you you seriously want to accelerate this, there are several avenues that have that potential: (1) Collaboration - Group camps and the associated camaraderie, (2) The female element, wife or partner camping, (3) Stealth camping - Tesco rooftop etc, (4) Product promotion. Whatever you choose, I wish you well!
