これは左目が悲しみ、右目が喜びによるものという根拠通りに描かれています。（原作漫画通りに）つまり母を亡くしたことを実感し悲しみによる涙の後に自分が泣けている事実に安堵する喜びという感情を表現している。
EP12で加奈が死んだ後の葬式で、新一が木に頭をぶつけて血の涙を流すシーンは右目（血の色が赤いことにほっとした喜び）
以下先のEPのネタバレあり
では、EP23で後藤を最後ナタで殺すシーンはどうでしょうか？
このシーンはあえて新一の右目しか写さず右目からのみ涙が流れているように描かれます。おそらく、後藤という危険な存在と決着がつけられたこと、新一自身が人間らしいエゴを突き通せたことなどが喜びにつながるかもしれません。あえて左目を見せないことで視聴者に判断を委ねたとも取れます。
ただ悲しいから涙を流すではなく、もっと人間は複雑で本心は見えないことを実感させられます。

@R.A.F GattaiGuy She's what kept Izumi as a human and was the reason drove him to survive in the final battle against Gotou. You see her as annoying because you, as a viewer, have information that she as a character does not.
@@AuroraBoost not really, her constant "are you really Izumi" questioning was annoying for both us and him, and he survived against Gotou because he was smart and creative, hell the old lady was more helpful than her
and her not having basic info like Izumi´s mom dying is the writers fault, there´s no reason for him not to tell her that, it´s a contrivance written to keep her oblivious so more conflict can happen between them
seriously the only useful thing she did the whole series was sleep with him to get rid of his paranoia
@@AuroraBoost While I agree she served to help keep Shinichi grounded as a human, I also feel like she had this idealized version of Shinichi in her mind and kept questioning his change because she couldn't accept it. Her love for him felt kind of shallow(?). It could be just the execution, I mean normally if someone you know acts totally different you'd ask what happened instead of "ARE YOU REALLY IZUMI?" which got really grating after the 3rd time.
