Forgotten Uniques: The Winds of Fate | Path of Exile

- The Winds of Fate was first introduced to Path of Exile in patch 3.20 Sanctum league as part of the exclusive rewards dropped by newly introduced boss Lycia, Herald of the Scourge. Sanctum's reintroduction in patch 3.22 Ancestor league brought about its exclusive unique rewards to the core game, allowing them to be looted from Lycia under special conditions with unique relics. The Winds of Fate puts a lot of strain on buildcraft, presenting conversion and critical strike modifiers which are somewhat difficult to use, but in return, you'll wield the highest dps unique weapon in the game.

Can't come fast enough. ToTA and Affliction were so much more fun :S
@@morfea123 They sure were! Two of my favourite leagues ever followed by my least favourite league ever 💀
Mathil made a build with this and glacial hammer recently. It turned out pretty good. Worth a watch for anyone intrigued.
I was looking for a way to make my Glacial Hammer of Shattering work and you just delivered it to me on a plate! Thanks. This series is amazing.
You can watch Mathil version of the build, he made one early this league.
@@Evil_Arthas Thanks for the tip ^^
Over complicated the problem lies with melee's damage. When most of melee's damage comes from the weapon you have a laundry list of mediocre upsides affected by severe downsides that leaves this weapon and most melee weapons doing less damage then a level 20 fireball from 3 screens away.
Loving this series!
Thanks for the shoutout! The Winds of Fate is one of those puzzle-piece uniques that make for the most satisfying builds, in my opinion. The layers of interactions needed to counteract its downside make any build that uses it a one-of-a-kind setup.
Yo, it's an awesome build, I had to mention it when talking about this unique & I agree, it's just one of those things that's so satisfying to solve
This was the most interesting one by far. The hydrosphere Idea seems super fun.
It could be interesting if it had "Critical strike chance is 50%", I'd use it more as a clunky but strong stepping stone
It become strong mid-league starting item in trade. Maybe. In reality 600-700 edps staff with good aps will be better and cheaper(heist one).
It would certainly make it an S++ tier weapon for many leaguestart builds
Love this video and the whole series so far, but I've got to be an arse and correct you on something:
It's not pronounced glass-ial, it's glay-cial!
I'll get it next time
I'm living all the work you do with this série of videos, good job ❤
Now i want to try it xd
Excellent video
Another video from the bestest PoE content creator
Dreamcore with even more informative content. I love it keep it up!
Your game knowledge is unreal. These are always mind blowing!
great vid as always
Great Series, thanks
Love this guy content. Great videos.
Appreciate that, thank you!
Thanks for staying true to what you do best.
Looking forward to the iron mass episode! Will be a banger - just like this one 😇
Insanely rare in non-trade league and underperfoming in trade league. Basically forced inquisitor for spell variant(energy weapon overperfoms this unique in hundred times) and melee suffers from 50% to hit. 66% for glacier. With base 6% crit and 1.30 aps no amount of damage will be enough to be playable. And dont forget: your character should do sanctums for this. Melee sanctum enjoyer KekW.
Love this series!!!
Thank for the video 👌👌👌
Rofl just when i wanted to build with it. The thing i want to try is penance brand. If the second (repeated) and not the first deals damage, you have no downside and huge explosions that ignore resistance, always crit and have that crazy added dmg. Otherwise it will be glacial hammer with cold and fire with heatshiver or the same with glacial cascade.
the glassyowl hammer
Fantastic. A chronicler, sage, seer... GGG should contract your services.
This unique does sound really neat. Maybe if eblade gets nerfed or inquis gets changed around I'd consider that battlemage variant. Love the 1 echo plume idea and try to spam cast speed to "eat" the dropped first cast. Seems like an interesting budget way to get conversion + hella crit multi scaling.
Been interested in this since I realised you can use it for vaal flicker ignite, just need to solve the damage conversion (KEKW, beacon of madness).
Best PoE video series ever. Keep going dreamcore !
Didn't know that Destructive Link overwrites max crit on this, I actually played a destructive link duo build for Crucible and it was so insanely good - we never even considered this weapon
Hmm. I just did some research for the hydrosphere tech. Wouldn't it be really clunky to use the staff with hydrosphere, spell echo and plume of pursuit? Hydrosphere would always crit on the final repeat, which are the pulses. However to get the hydrosphere to pulse outside of self-casting it needs to be frozen, which is impossible because no non-crits can deal damage. Therefore only casting it yourself would deal damage and only on the second repeat. Is this right or do I messed up something?
Edit: btw lovely series, brings some cool ideas for fun builds :D
Edit 2: nvm I just went to watch ifnjeffs build of the week and he explains in great detail how to overcome this exact problem LUL at least my initial thought wasn't wrong xD
If you use a "prismatic" skill with focus jewels, does it affect the weapon conversion, forcing it to one type of elemental damage? Or does the weapon not care, it'll pick fire even if your skill can't deal fire damage?
Hmm he said skill conversion has higher priority so I guess it would indeed bypass the weapons' inherent conversions. Though the weapon's attack speed really sucks so I'm not sure if it's worth it.
Edit: it just came to my mind that jewels are also equipment I guess? But no idea if that interferes with their forced conversion mod
@frenchcatgoesham9665 Yea that's what I was thinking, it comes from a jewel not the skill itself
Gem damage conversion happens before item conversion. So if you're wild striking with combat focus, the wild strike always converts all the damage first before the weapon can convert any. Elemental hit seems like a nonbo because ele hit prevents you from doing any kind of damage that isn't the chosen type of damage, including the 25% chaos the weapon does.
@@chemicals8582 But combat focus is influencing the gem, not the weapon.
Combat focus jewels won't affect the conversion on the weapon, it will still be able to convert to any elemental type because the jewels only prevent prismatic skills themselves from choosing a type
Is your pronunciation of glacial a regional thing?:) Love this unique for the series
Yeah I guess it's just how I've always pronounced it
This is a dream weapon to use with Yoke of Suffering. It's possible to apply 8 different ailments for "enemies take 80% increased damage", and since the ailments will be applied at 75% effectiveness, the shocks will be large as well bringing the final value to "enemies take 130% increased damage". This more than makes up for the 50% crit chance because this scales the ignite portion of the damage which persists through the elemental rotation. The average values are 25% chaos avg, 25% lightning hit avg, 25% cold hit avg, but 75% ignite avg (or 25% fire hit avg). With the large enemies take increased damage, the ignite applied by this are at 172.5% effectiveness of weapon damage.
Adorned + Bloodthirst + Yoke + Life-Stack Melee Ignite would be something I would like to try with this weapon.
bloodthirst seems like a waste since it'll already be adding to the large pool of flat phys from winds of fate. You'd be better off using a different weapon at that point.
What is the build in the intro? Autobombing minions sounds dope
I think that was with the marionette corpses you could buy in affliction that resummoning themselves after a very short delay.
You can do something similar with elementalist and golems but maw is better I think.
can you use this with brittle and/or assassins mark or does the increased crit chance from those also count as "your critical strike chance"?
Yeah both brittle and assassin's mark are subject to the 50% maximum chance
Would be pretty neat unique if brittle and assassins mark type effects wouldn't be counted on that 50% crit.
Won't spellblade support work in place of battlemage, thus removing the "be inquis" requirement?
Spellblade only works with one handed weapons
Oh, I've stepped on a good old "can't read properly"
I think the biggest issue with this staff is that other uniques like Annihilating Light exist. The staff grants you a ton of damage if you jump through a bunch of hoops to counter its downsides. So does Annihilating Light. But where Annihilating Light is inherently flexible in what you can use it for (pretty much any elemental hit spell), this staff forces you into one of only a handful of niche setups. Why pigeonhole yourself like that when you can get a similar benefit from another much more straightforward weapon?
What about profane ground? Its rhe enemy chance to be critically striked not my chance tk critical hit
Profane ground is a detrimental ground effect that reduces all resistances (including Chaos) by -10% and increases chance to be critically hit[1] by 100%[2].
No the increased critical strike chance from profane ground functions as a 100% increase to your critical strike chance, so it's still capped by the 50% maximum
@@dreamcore_gg thought so, saaad
Never even seen that relic after 50 over runs 💀
Yep, far too rare!
its also pretty rare
Mathil gang sends his regard
For the ytcrawler!❤
As I know percentages are cumulative .For example 90% evade chance every 10th hit will be a guaranteed hit on you , so having lucky crit strikes should guarantee every hit or second hit to be a crit .
Not sure if it works here as evasion has an entropy system tied to make it work like that thus avoiding lucky streaks for evasion
How to fix this weapon without even watching the video: Remove the chaos part and make the ele conversion 100%. There, done, chase unique made.
Oh is that not a chase unique? What if you double the innate stats of the weapon. Is it good enough yet? Maybe. It's still mediocre. PoE is infested with shit boss drops, this is a meme item.
you even couldn't sell this to a homeless person. you tired though.
These 4 month league cycles are actual aids
