Garnet Bowman, Ronnie's wife sings harmony, Donica Christianson is on banjo, Daren Shumaker on mandolin, and Greg Martin on bass.
ronnie has the most soulful voice in bluegrass!
Beautiful
I went to school with Ronnie Bowman and I remember one time we were singing the song about a Swanee river and you could hear water sloshing in the back ground, he will always be my friend.
Only one word can describe this...AWESOME!!!
I love this song. He does a great job on it!!
I come here often
I have heard Jimmy's version and he, like Lester Flatt, & Bill Monroe, is indeed untouchable due to the legacies they left on bluegrass music. But for this song, I just think Ronnie's voice is smooth enough to melt butter! BUT no body would no anything about this tune without Jimmy, so yes major props and love for him. He is indeed one of my favs especially when JD was with him!
I agree w/ you rockin...nobody sings this like Ronnie Bowman! Thanks for sharing!
From one Bowman to another, great job.
Great old song!
Nice
I have to agree johnnybub!!
I agree with RJR-- NO ONE can do this song like Ronnie. Of course, that's only one of MANY songs that only RB should do! :)
@iceaxe56 yes he was with The Lonesome River Band until 2000 I think.
P.S. Why is it there is always a drunk guy in the crowd who wants to sing at the top of his lungs and drown out the very singing we all are there to enjoy? I still vote for a bouncer at SI!
I prefer this slower version. Maybe because I first heard it this way. Great job.
You have, of course heard Jimmy Martin's version, right? RB does a fantastic job with this old tune, no doubt, but how about some love for the king.
Thanks! Great! Do you happen to also know the Dobro Player's Name?
Sorry....Jimmy Stewart! I totally forgot he played with Ronnie that night. He often plays fiddle with Brooks and Dunn I think.
You should check the version by Boyd Hulin from a local fiddlers convention. Just search Boyd Hulin Mary Ann
Ronnie come back to cville VA
atta boy
They sing it pretty dang good don't they. I'm not partial because I'm a Mary Ann either:)
Yup, that's the only way to do it. Excellent! does anyone know who the others are in the band?
Could you tell me who wrote this song so I could purchase the music for this song. Thanks Brian!!
Check out Lee Roy's (The Roys) version of this song.
that makes you wana bite the head off a bottle of crown royal!!! awesome!!!
Very nice But Jimmy Martin dose a great job on this song also.
nice job. do you think the audience was drinking? :-)
This song would be so much better if it had both verses written with equal measures. A little bit slow but still not as snail-paced as LRB.
In my opinion the Lonesome River band is a better version.
Sir, that's Ronnie Bowman also. So, your opinion is, at very least, consistent.
@@johnallison7358 The classic version of the song, as recorded by the LRB, has Ronnie Bowman singing lead.
This has got to be one of my favorite bluegrass songs of all time... nobody does it like Ronnie! And Garnett is killing it on back up! Thanks for sharing.
