    Half time,
    Dotted-half note time,
    Half-note triplet time,
    Original time,
    Quarter note triplet time,
    Double time
    (meaning each one equals the quarter note in his swing pattern over the melody)

      @@carmenip5600 he probabely meant to say "dotted time". Anyways, for sake of completeness, i'm missing "dotted eights time". Tzz, Ari.. :D

      @@carmenip5600 dotted half notes are a full half note plus a quarter note. it gives the time a 3/4 type feeling in half time. 0:56

    This is pure passion. He is in the moment completely. Each of us should aspire to our own passion, not try to copy his. Although, there is much to learn from this.

    @Jean-Philippe Godbout I believe he is super-imposing half-note triplets over the Billie's Bounce melody and treating them as if they were quarter notes. Basically the 8th-note triplets in the original meter become 16th notes in the new implied meter.

    • @Thissbetterwork
      @Thissbetterwork Před 10 lety

      Yeah that's exactly what I'm referring to. It's helped in my playing but I can't remember that minimal thing like hitting a cymbal the first time through the form. Incredible.

      Whoa, you guys are saying that he did it on purpose the second time around? He grazes that cymbal at around 2:52 and 2:57 ... I was thinking that it was just a coincidence, but maybe not!

    • @Thissbetterwork
      @Thissbetterwork Před 10 lety +1

      Yes. There is no doubt in my mind that he remembered that he hit it the first time through the head and used the "mistake" as a musical statement. He does it all the time, it's crazy! haha

    It's time to tear the bark off this guy. He's the hipster version of Weckl, devoid of emotion, it's all so stiff and premeditated. I don't buy his fake emoting either. Every time I hear Hoenig, it sounds dead. Like he's afraid of making a mistake.
    Give me Baron, DeJohnette, Blade. Those cats play with feeling.
    Hoenig? Sounds like a New School practice room drummer.
