My voice doesn't sound like it does on the phone compared to my ears, I never knew it was so bad, but it's really improving thanks to your videos. I still have a long way to go, but I have hope for a normal speaking voice.
Hi Professor Rhodes. First, I hate to hear myself in English; however, I Love to hear myself singing in either Spanish or English. Vg: Yesterday, 'beetles', Exodus, South Pacific, The Sound Of silence, Let's Face The Music, and many many more. But when I talk I still have Spanish accent that even myself can recognize, because I've heard English for many years. people, movies, tv, you name it! I have noticed that repeating 6 or 7 times your examples sentences helps me a lot with the intonation and rhythm. I have also tried FIB movies describing cases, using the pauses for repetition. Thanks a lot for all your help.

That is a very good video. What you say is absolutely true, as kids we learn our accents by imitating those arounds us mostly our parents but when we learn a second or third language as an adult we stop imitating and learn from reading, no wonder the accents sound foreign. Imitation is a good way to create a new accent and you know what they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery I also agree recording yourself is an important step in gaining a new accent. Finally, when you imitate someone you need a speaker who has a lot of good videos, someone with easy access to their video, someone that you like the sound of and who speaks amazingly clear. So there is no chance of any mistake. We need to read and understand the verbatim of the customer very carefully. If we make mistake my company issue warning letter. 🙂
I'm at a weird spot, where I did actually learn English from listening and I can differentiate pretty much every sound, understand everything that's being said perfectly (even when listening to fast rap or different, stronger accents) and know what every word is supposed to sound like intuitively but the problem is with me producing those sounds - they just come out a bit wrong. I guess I just have to practice more, it's been working out so far, I've made a lot of progress in the last month.

Love this lesson, so practical. I just had a video made about my pet portraits, the video turned out fabulous but I deeply dislike my accent 😖. Will definitely take this advice and record myself more often. On another note, the teacher’s hair color is a work of art.
There is a particular sound that I really love hearing from native speakers, it is the sound of glottal T in words such as: Gluten , Latin, Important, Cotton, Button, Eaten, Written, Mitten, Mountain, and so on. We don't have that sound in my language 😁

So I speak Hebrew and the Hebrew accent is the total opposite of the American accent, so it’s really hard for me but you’re really helping. + sometimes I just talk to myself in English, do you think it helps?
