Back in the day when trains were trains, not just glorified trams as they are now, A real loco pulling a rake of comfortable coaches all with a table so you could drink your tea or coffee as you watch the breathtaking views of the Scottish highlands.

That was an amazing video. Travelled from Glasgow QS to Arrochar Tarbert yeas ago with a class 37 in attendance. Amazing journey. These beasties look right at home in the rugged countryside. When will we see their like again?

Love the clip from 7:45! Great variety of wagons, and especially like the wooden ones. Wish you saw them these days. What a great way to move goods...

Brilliant video! I spent many happy days at GLQ watching the 37s come in from the West Highland line in the mid 80s when I was at school.

Usually 5 on the oban and 6 on Ft bill. In the summer they were often longer, and even had several brake vans if cycling clubs booked in advance! With the old vac mark Is sometimes the Oban would be load 2 due to stock availability and the Mallaig could be a single coach.

Interesting to see the "route clear" from Tulloch with the help of the station master/signaller/cleaner etc etc! Now all trains have to stop at Tulloch to send/ receive tokens.
    Brilliant vid! Takes me back!

I might be the odd one out but you can't compare the modern locos with the days of steam like black5s or k2s even the glens of the eds.

Hard to believe there was so much traffic on the line back then; 5+ coach loco hauled trains and even freight! Now only sprinters.

I absolutely love the Driver and Signalman's token exchange at 8:16. There ought to be lots more freight trains like this on NR's lines:-)

@flymajj These were all regular service trains so pretty typical. In winter (thats when it rains even more!!) the trains were generally shorter - and virtually empty.
