What's wrong with people judgment
The difference is that Taemin had already gained fame and respect due to SHINee, he was already beloved by people and had a huge fanbase. When you have all that you can get away with that stuff.
With A.C.E their fanbase was small (and mostly international) so when they debuted with those shorts, showing off really muscular legs which is the opposite of the standard 'boyish' look expected from new groups, they were simply assumed to be "attention seeking" via being "inappropriate". Those were though times but I'm glad they survived that period and are now finally starting to get some recognition.

I think they'll have to introduce it again as a trademark once they've successfully taken off. I love the short shorts, personally, but if their audience decides to be touchy about it and it hinders their success and causes the number opportunities to dwindle, it might be for the best. It'd be absolutely tragic if they weren't a successful group because they're all SO talented it's crazy.

I still remember how proud I was when Jun and Chan passed the audition ... how time really flies quickly ... finally Chan gets to be in the Unit B debut team ....A.C.E is definitely one of the most talented kpop idol group that I've ever known ... all of them are all rounders . now Donghun and Jason are in Mixnine's debut team meanwhile Chan in The Unit B ...
A.C.E is a group that has worked hard since predebut and I admire them a lot for that.
I am proud to say that I am CHOICE because I will always be there for them, we will all be there, always.

To be honest their song choice for their first performance was kinda lack luster. It didn’t fully show and highlight their best attributes. They have a lot of potential and skill so a different song would have been better to showcase their talent.
@@notusingthisemail7989 I think the song choice and choreo is fine (it looked bomb when Jun performed it with Lia Kim on 1 Million's channel) but the overly joyful "mood" + trying to sing it live didn't really mesh well. Gashina, of course, was very well executed.

These five boys A.C.E members have all the potentials to line up with those so called Idols. They have the looks even with no make up, they possess good vocals to sing and energy to perform their dance routine. They are also hard working and full of positive energy. They only need a good management to handle their careers and whoever handle or manages this group will not regret coz they are like a polished gems. They have potentials. Pls listen to the songs they covered like " Someone you loved " by Lewis Capaldi and I think " All of me " by John Legend. Give them a chance.👍🤗

I remember this segmen in some shows about the big 3 ceos commenting to their idol- self producers song demos. They were quite picky and hard filtering to those tone beats.

I feel like their story to fame might be similar to BTS; Bts is full of talent and they're from a small company as well, yet they rose to top after a long, arduous journey. A.c.e is amazing as well but hopefully they'll have less struggles than Bts. :)

It’s funny how they got so much hate because of the hot pants and now when an idol wears something like hot pants or crop tops people go insane and say it’s great... but in reality A.C.E were the first male group to wear hot pants and crop tops and they did a great job. It's really frustrating even after five years like how much they got so much hate because of it.

Jinwoo from Winner said that even after debut, things will get harder and harder. After debut is the real challenge for idols. Consider Jinwoo came from YG, a big 3 company, said that. It must be very hard too for A.C.E and other groups from small companies. But you can clearly see how smart the members & their agency to promote them in several survival shows. Thank you Beat for not giving up on these boys.
2019, they released the 3rd mini album. Under Cover is amazing and I learn to know A.C.E from this era. The live stage is great. I'm beyond happy to see them now after those hard works. A.C.E fighting and please keep growing even after your enlistment!!!
I saw them dance in hot pants on an interview show it thought it was just one of those korean styles you never saw before. But I was more impressed with their dancing. I don't get what everyone else missed.
I've followed ACE since debut, and when it was the calling star time I spammed the hearts until my hand hurt, stayed up all night collecting and voting... 2 in the unit, 3 in mixnine, Choices and A.C.E fighting!

I feel bad for them. Why talented idols like them are underrated? I feel so sad. I saw them in mixnine too. I am just so proud of their hardwork. Being an idol is about popularity. Some of idols are not always so freakin' talented but mostly are well promoted by the company, so they re welknown. I wish A.C.E will be more successful.
tbh I'm kinda over with the hotpants thing, (I actually liked it, and I commend them for their courage esp in a conservative society like SK) plus some publicity is better than none I guess

Actually, they're doing pretty well ^_^ if you watch more recent episodes, they're about to go through eliminations. Both mixnine and the unit. They even get plenty of screen time and are really hard working and have so far passed their missions so far. A.C.E fighting!

I felt like Taemin and Hyuna's criticism was too harsh. They gave boots to almost all of the Good Day members even though they were arguably less talented. I think they were a bit irked by the "hot pants" thing. I feel like they weren't pleased with it because they built up their popularity and respect for a long time before wearing such revealing clothing. Perhaps they thought that A.C.E was just fanservice.
However, as a Choice, I believe that they are so much more... THEY DESERVE THE WORLD, PLS SUPPORT THEM.
I saw the Cactus practice and i was shook at how good they were at dancing and then I saw the stage and they sing really good the outfits are like a second thing to focus tbh but they looked really good with those shorts, boi those legs are "dancer legs"

Literally please go check out their dance videos it's some SATISFYING stuff they're so in sync and they work so hard, please give them a chance!
I seriously adore Taemin and respect him so much BECAUSE he's so comfortable breaking gender boundaries in fashion, dance, makeup, and singing. So it's honestly really disappointing to watch this. He's talked so much about erasing the differences between men and women's fashion and had to explain himself for wearing very feminine clothing in his stages, but what, it's not the same for a group of rookies to wear shorts? Literally, the girl group who auditioned directly before them was wearing shorts about the same length. I don't know, it's just disappointing. I really have so much respect for what Taemin does and it's upsetting to see him not tolerate the same thing in others.
Why are you mentioning Taemin? He didn't say anything about the shorts. No one actually said anything bad about them. It was all edited in. Rain asked why they wore them and then the editors put in all the stuff about people not liking it. Then they moved on to the performance. None of the judges criticized them in this segment.

You're right that the judges themselves don't focus on it too much, the video generally makes me frustrated because I've seen so many things like this so many times. I mentioned Taemin because he's there and like I said before he's well known for these things and it's always been accepted by people like the ones sitting around that table; same with Hyuna, she wears those clothes all the time; then the fact that literally the girl group directly before them was wearing shorter shorts than that and it was never even mentioned. Trust me I love Taemin a lot, he's possibly my favourite artist in Kpop and I have a lot of respect for him; I also love Hyuna; don't particularly like Rain but not for this reason. I was venting and talking about how it being brought into focus so prominently is a pattern, and it's tiring, and it's hypocritical considering where they are and the people who are right there and have done the exact same things if not more scandalous. Hyuna's cb now, for example. My comment was very much like, I'm tired of this and it sucks and it's kind of sexist and kind of homophobic and it makes no sense for anyone in that room to point it out at all considering who's sitting at that table

I also think it was good because A.C.E performance was shown in full, plus a little back story and they got to speak on the shorts. So many people auditioned and many of their auditions did not make it into the show that aired. I think the shorts were brought up as a source of drama. And that drama turned Jun and Chan into main characters so to speak. This was one of the best things that could happen to them on a show like this. This show was part of my introduction to A.C.E back when it first aired.
Back then I mainly noted the nice things the judges said how and how hard it must have been for A.C.E to be criticized for wearing shorts.

To summarize what I wanted to say, I know Taemin best out if the judges so I thought about him more when I was watching this and what always frustrates me is how people are so disturbed by the stupid shorts but go crazy over famous people like Taemin and women like Hyuna who do the same thing. It’s sexist and homophobic in an underlying way, and it frustrates me and I was just venting, so it’s not that serious. It’s not like I was presenting an elaborate theory on the judges’ behaviors and perspectives. But I guess its a public comment so you’re allowed to nitpick and extrapolate.
You’re not wrong though, I agree with you it did bring attention to them. But I dont like it. Idk if you saw mixnine but the same thing happened there, more than once. Then there were the articles, and the hate comments, and the many homophobic remarks, etc etc. the shorts thing is for drama, sure, it’s also a way to try to belittle and humiliate them on again a fairly homophobic principle - the association of feminine clothes on men to something ridiculous or inappropriate. Besides the implication that the shorts are too revealing for men because it becomes too exposed or sexualized, but on women it’s fine because that’s the point of female clothing. I know some people will think I’m over-exaggerating on this but this is how a lot of this was framed, and these are valid implications to take from the situation, and they’re not very good ones. Like they said, why couldn’t people just focus on their dancing and singing rather than bringing up their stage outfits specifically as a way to create drama and humiliate them, call them out or bring negative attention to it? There’s a lot of more interesting things about them to bring up that would have brought attention to them without being condescending or hypocritical. I hate how these shows “start drama” by trying to humiliate their competitors, and this goes for all survival shows. I don’t think it’s a good thing. I’m venting again because it’s so frustrating to me

My point is I was just thinking out loud and at no point was thinking that the judges are all mean haters or anything like that, much less Taemin who, again, I have so so much respect for. Oh gosh my heart I've been supporting these boys since they used to upload dance covers and go busking, seeing all the member show their talents and receiving recognition on both shows makes me so happy. I hope they gain a lot more fans because they really do deserve it!!
But like..... Why would the hot pants detract from their attention??? That's what confuses me, especially when a lot of K-pop artists use fan service as a means of appealing to their audiences. I can't understand why the judges seemed to be looking down on them the whole time. That was a face I've never seen on Taemin before. But I fell in love with ACE because I loved the song and dance to Cactus, the hot pants were an added bonus I only found out later. I seriously can't understand why these boys aren't more popular, they're wonderful people and have worked so hard, they deserve the world and I hope they get more recognition than they have been.

Well just at any time that he's on screen, I see a face of intense disapproval... I mean, that's my interpretation, and I really love Taemin, I wouldn't have ever thought that he would look that way reacting to a performance. I watched some other clips from this show and Taemin never seems to really pull any other faces similar, so I thought that he just really disliked their performance for some weird reason. Like sure, it wasn't to your taste, but idk. Just throwing random opinions out there that don't make sense is what the internet is for lmao.

I honestly felt sad and teary because jun and Chan are suppppper sweet and talented that people tend to judge on their clothes or performance but never truly acknowledge their dedication and hardwork.
Donttouch Myhair This was all speculation on my part, so don’t take anything I say as full truth, but yeah, all the judges seemed put off at the hot pants comment and I can’t say for sure that affected their reactions the rest of the video, but they all are obviously put off by it. I’m sure they’re all great judges and knew what they were talking about, but there’s that small part of me that thinks maybe they were a bit biased in not voting for them. However, I can also see the other perspective that the maroon 5 song wasn’t their greatest choice, so nothing can be for sure.
I did felt that they judged them because of the hot pants. But gladly it didn’t seem to affect their opinion on their audition. Because truthfully the maroon 5 one was ok. Wasn’t anything special. But taemin asked for another dance thankfully, and it showed their skills, dance wise, very well

Jun caught my attention with his monster solo cam, that's how I came back looking for his audition. Didn't know he was the one that danced to Gashina (which I loved). I loved them. Looked for their songs and LOVED THEM. Found out they had another three members in mixnine so I started watching it too.
