This song/video has a vibe that Im in love with: the 90's aesthetics, the garage simple but powerful and raw sound, and also a mix of a wide variety of feelings like hope, misery, innocence and nostalgia...

The squeaky cart wheels beginning and ending the song... pure perfection. And the whole video, masterpiece really, with such a rough and reserved selection of actions and views, yet so powerful in the transmission of expression (*if moving at all=kicking high like an exclamation mark... Etc) I've listened to other GBV songs but this one really got a hold on me for years

I'm over 30 years into alternative music but only now I understood the genius of this band. Perhaps due to covid. I was tired of hearing all the old stuff I was listening to, couldn't find good new stuff and so I have GBV another try. And something triggered. It took time, but I'm so glad I made it. My first GBV record is coming in next week.

Kinda same dude, I'm 40 and have always been aware of GBV but I binged watched a TV show that had Game of Pricks as an outtro and a lightbulb went off. They're the indie/lo-fi Talking Heads. Just so many great songs.

I bought Alien Lanes on a whim and got just obsessed with that album and band. This version is good, but I still prefer the original for nostalgia's sake, I guess.
The charisma of Bob Pollard blows me away! I prefer this version even more than the Alien Lanes version.

I think it’s fair to say GBV were the seed to the early 00’s global rock fashion and sound. Largely due to Strokes and others who were influenced by them. I mean, how many kids sported white converse mid 90’s?
I'm 53 and I recall everyone wearing them back then including myself, but I was in the band scene. Even in the 90's Converse used hipster marketing.

Why is the song a different version from the album? What's with the extra percussion and the tinny vocals? Just use the album version of the song.
I prefer the LP version, too. I think this was the official single release because Matador felt the drum track (very obviously a simple drum machine) wasn't up to snuff; at least I recall reading that somewhere. So I guess they did a remix and came up with this.
