【山形／観光名所】上杉家廟所／上杉謙信や上杉鷹山が眠る荘厳な墓所- Solemnity Uesugi Clan Mausoleum in Yamagata, JAPAN -

上杉家御廟所は、山形県米沢市にある米沢藩歴代藩主の墓所で米沢城（上杉神社）の北西に位置します。
上杉謙信が越後にて没すると、その遺骸は漆を塗り甲冑を着せて埋葬されました。その後、上杉家の移封に伴い、謙信の霊柩も越後から会津、会津から米沢へと移されてきました。案外知られていませんが、上杉謙信は米沢に埋葬されています。
上杉景勝が死亡するとこの廟所に埋葬され、以後十二代藩主までが埋葬されることとなります。
明治の廃城令に伴い、城内本丸にあった謙信の霊柩も城から廟所に移設され現在に至っています。
廟所は謙信霊廟を中央に、その左右に歴代藩主の霊廟が厳かに立ち並び、二代景勝から八代重定までは火葬後に埋葬、九代治憲から十二代斉定までは土葬されました。

The Uesugi Clan Mausoleum is the graveyard of successive lords of the Yonezawa Domain in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, and is located northwest of Yonezawa Castle (Uesugi Shrine).
When Kenshin Uesugi died in Echigo, his remains were lacquered and dressed in armor and buried. After that, as the Uesugi family moved to other parts of Japan, Kenshin's hearse was moved from Echigo to Aizu and from Aizu to Yonezawa. Not surprisingly, Uesugi Kenshin is buried in Yonezawa.
When Uesugi Kagekatsu died, he was buried in this mausoleum, and thereafter the 12th lord of the domain was buried there.
With the abolition of the castle in the Meiji era, Kenshin's hearse was moved from the castle to the mausoleum.
In the mausoleum, the mausoleum of Kenshin is in the center, and the mausoleums of the successive lords of the domain stand solemnly on either side.

課外授業で訪れたのでしょうか。歴史上に現存した大名の霊廟を見学しに行くとは素晴らしい企画ですね。
今を知るには過去を学ぶことが大切です。
上杉家霊所は飾りのない質素な霊廟ですが、質素倹約を率先した藩なだけに、現代になっても地元の方々からも大切にされている気がします。

大名霊廟は全国にありますが、ここ上杉家の霊廟は飾り立てることもなくかえって神々しさを感じる空間です。
二代上杉景勝から八代上杉重定までは入母屋造りの霊廟建築ですが、九代上杉治憲（鷹山）からは宝形造りの簡素化された霊廟となっており、
さすが鷹山公、自らの墓にも質素倹約を貫いたことに感銘を受けました。よく見ると違いが発見できますので、是非、現地でお確かめください👍
