  • This project was inspired by the very talented Sam Calcott from Mixed Up Crafts. These cubes are flattened into a lidded box which is held closed with a belly band. Once the box is opened, the mechanism inside the cubes causes them to jump out of the box. I have shared this project in the Cricut Community and you can find the Maker/Explore version here design-beta.cricut.com/landin... and the Venture version here design-beta.cricut.com/landin...

    I am rubbing it down well, I used 65 weight paper because that was all I had. I have tried a few different types of rubber bands..together, separately, different adhesive.. It's just too crazy.
    I can try again

    Love this...I'm goingto try and make this. Can you please share linksor details on the red tape sizes you use, as well as the hlue and bottle please 😁

      The red line tape measures 1/2" in width. As for the glue, I use either Art Glitter Glue (it contains no glitter, that is just its name) or Bearly Art Precision Craft glue. I like to transfer my glue into small precision tip glue applicator bottles with silicone caps. I can find all these items on Amazon.

    this is perfect, just what I am looking for to surprise a friends 50th, thanks for sharing your talent once again. Question, you mention that 80lb card stock was the best to use, how did you put the elastics, 2 single ones or tied together as you did using 65lb card stock. Thanks

    Thank you for these, Louise. They're brilliant! I have downloaded the project from DS, but am wondering what the pieces marked "Extra Pop" might be? Thanks.

      Please ignore those. It was an idea that I am keeping in my back pocket for future use, but decided that the file was complicated enough without all of that. Thank you so much Loretta for letting me know! Thanks to you I have updated the file without those!

    I have tried all of my sticky stuff, glue, tape and nothing seems to want to keep that box together! Is there something I am doing wrong here? Is there a type you prefer for your boxes?
    I have used the red tape that you are using in the video. I really have wasted like five cubes and it is so frustrating! I even tried glue and that worked for some parts but not many

      What weight is your card stock? Are your rubber bands too small or too thick? When you apply your red line tape, are you burnishing it well to make sure it is adhering properly. I went and grabbed one of the cubes that I made for this project and I am making it bounce as I write this, and it's been months since I assembled it.
      As for my liquid adhesive, I like either Art Glitter Glue for this project.

    Question: why do you assemble one box with double rubber bands and the other box with two rubber bands tied together? Is it an either/or choice?

    • @crafty_lou7
      @crafty_lou7  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Excellent question. The first cube is assembled using kraft board (a thicker material) and double rubber bands. That provided an excellent bounce. The next one, I used 65 lb card stock and I used an extended rubber band (so two rubber bands intertwined to form a longer one). Because of the lighter weight material, the double rubber bands would have been too strong. The bounce was still fine, but I finally settled on 80 lb card stock with extended rubber bands, and they worked really well for me.

      That clarifies it perfectly! Thanks. I’ll send you pictures or videos of the final projects.

    Is the vinyl reinforced piece in the cut file?

    • @crafty_lou7
      @crafty_lou7  Před 27 dny

      Yes, you can cut the red pieces in the file to create the vinyl reinforcement. Make sure you are using the Maker/Explore version.
