EPISODE 49 - akg 414 vs Chinese Seeknature 414 microphone

- The stranegely branded 'Seeknature' C414 looks like the AKG - but is quite diferent in almost every department. Apart from the look, and the silly name - is the mic worth looking at? The sample cost me £52, but Aliexpress have them for £63 at the moment. Have a listen and see what you think.
I guess they charge the name depending of where it's sold in the USA it's called the pro c414.
The seek nature immediately has a nasaly sound which is not really desirable in my opinion . I own a 414 from the 80’s and it sounds amazing .

You should try the BaiFai Li C414 .... It actually is pretty close! It's in the same family sound wise for sure. (The 25mm version) It's quite warm and balanced.... They're doing something very different than the one you're on right now.

Can you tell me more about it plz? I am choosing between at2020, akg p120 and baifai li c414. Is it worth it?
10-14mm (usually 10.5} for 41. Sounds way worse and 26s/n,dba. can get mxl 500+ for less. Or or 25mm taskam w 19 s/n.
In China we don’t even buy those things. There are real brand like se electronic which much better and not too expensive. Or the golden edge ribbon microphone. Don’t buy those no name copy
Hello Sir, u might need to considering the more appropriate chinese c414 comparison with this one called Baifeili c414. It has the closest clone to the original akg with a smallest piece of bargain price. You will be surprised.
I watched a couple of videos - but I suspect it's probably very much the same microphone - difficult to tell as the other videos did not show the insides. Nice housing which looks identical. Thanks for the lead.

Speaking about the sound, I might be wrong but from my non professional sense of hearing, the Baifeili had a more low and detail which is better than the Seeknature. But I would love to hear what u think though Paul, especially after looking at the inside of that mic on the link above. Is it actually the same thing?

@@AndyBaedal I investigated getting one to try, but the end price is too expensive, sadly. The cheapest price works out to around £70 - that's £52 for the mic, probably £10.40VAT, and then around 12-15 for UPS/Evri or whoever might hav to add VAT - so that's £75 worst case, and I doubt if I put it on ebay after the test, I'd get that back? It is in a no-mans land between cheapo and cheerful and the price of a cheap AKG or Neumann
@@pauljohnson4590 its still cheaper than even an at2020. Its definitely still a bargain especially if you don't have any other better choice on that price range
Seeknature sounds suspiciously like a Babelfish translation of Signature.

Actually, you might have a good idea here - the brightness would work quuite well I think?
Happy New Year to us! 😛 Wow, you sound REALLY GOOD on that C414. But by comparison, you sound like I'm hearing you through a 70s era transistor radio on that SeekNature travesty! It's terrible. I still have my old AKG C4000B multipattern mic, and it gets a lot of use as a room mic when recording guitar and bass amps. At the time it came out, it was the next best thing to a C414 from AKG. I had a client come in with a C214, and it was terrible -- but it was also used, and reeked horribly of cigarette smoke; don't know if that played into why it sounded so bad, but I immediately unplugged it and told him not to bring it ever again. 😆
This C414 china copy is so far the most well made in terms of shell casing. It is just baffling why would they put a cheapo 20mm (Probably 18mm) diaphragm inside. I wanted this mic so bad to pair with a cheap soundcard that does not require 48v but it cannot be found anywhere else and they have DOUBLED the price on their TAOBAO page which was $45-$50 USD to $90-$100 USD. However there is a similar model that they have came out with; Seeknature T241 which look exactly the same but with an 18mm diaphragm and different coloration and they also have the T241 PRO model which is a 48v condenser with 34mm diaphragm (32mm maybe?). This company has so much potential but they're pretty shady with their specs and electronic components used.
I still want that Seeknature C414 badly for the shell! But have since bought the T241 and much renowned BaiFeiLi C414. Can't wait to receive them.
from my short correspondence with them, it's pretty clear they know very little about their products, and I suspect that this is one of the cases where a 'new' product is produced. They source the case, the mounts, the pcb and the mic, and by magic create a mic. The snag is they probably just took specs from one product and slapped them on another. I doubt seriously they have any capability to assess it's performance and produce their own specs. Essentially, it's a best guess as to if the next batch even have the same capsule. If supplier A has none, they'll buy from supplier B. Most items get done like this, which means nothing remains the same. I buy quite a lot of LED lighting for entertainment and If I order 12, after two months there is no guarantee that a repeat order woks the same way! Things change.
For your voice the Seeknature is way much better!!!
I sold it and the buyer thought the same.

Thanks for this, the Chinese one I think I agree with you but I’ve also been told that others really like it. I sold it on ebay to a guy who heard it and he’s very pleased!
