Waiters usually struggle financially so I doubt they would deliberately mess up the food or drink as it could horribly backfire.
People are rude to waiters because they think they can bully them because of their social status

I was never a waiter or waitress but I did work in fast food. I couldn't tell you how many times I have been cussed out or had food thrown back at me, even had others intimidate me to get free food. I do sympathize with this the most. It's made me more appreciative of those who not only wait tables but delivery people, store clerks, etc. Even when getting my hair cut I felt bad for the girl, not only because she was the only one working, but because she was trying to call in employees for help, while cutting a young kids hair who isn't sitting still and she had a store full of customers. Everyone but me was complaining about slow service. So when it was my turn I gave her pleasant conversation and tipped 50% of the bill to her. You also get so much more in return when you are actually nice about a complaint rather than screaming and yelling.

I think being the waiter is better in teaching him a lesson. I am a janitor. Yes, there are people looking down on janitors. The waiter will face people much more often. I was a cashier at Kmart years ago. I prefer working as a janitor.
It would have been better if the former coffee shop server bought out his former workplace, took over as the new owner and employed Mr Dayton as a server

I have few friends working in a fast food chain. I remembered when they told me a story when one customer threw a spoon at my friend. For real, they don't deserve such treatment from customers. They're always underpaid and overworked.

Oh damn, an eye opener! Mr. Dayton learned an important lesson, don't judge a book by its cover or it'll bite him back worse, Oliver just did that, bought out his shares of his firm and offer the lowest job to humble him, a janitor position. That's karma for him.

I wouldn't have offered him that because I dont consider a janitor a lowly position. any job, as long as you have pride in the effort you put forth, is a worthwhile job and not lowly. if he got that position, he might be there at best 2 hours since it's "beneath him."
