2:06 it's always funny when John's voice cracks. You know when you love a band so much, you even like the "bad" takes
Absolutely this raw studio takes are just amazing! That voice crack has more talent than most of today's music.
This isn't a bad take. The Beatles are best when they're live and figuring it out. The polish isn't the amazing part. The raw idea is. Everything about this song is in this take and they were doing it live. Ringo is great.

"Planners" know exactly what the outline of a novel looks like before they drop the first word on the page.
"Pantsers" just start typing and go by the seat of their pants.
If the same can be said of musicians, Ringo is firmly in the camp of "pantsers." I have seen him insist in interviews that he had no idea before tracking a session where he was going to drop fills, or what they would sound like. He just "made it up as he went along" based on what he heard and where his instincts led him.
And that's why even he can't duplicate some of this work. Cos he has no idea how he did it. It's just "what felt right" in the moment.
So, yup. Gotta say the boy's sense of "what felt right" was pretty damned dead on, dontcha think?
@@beachdog67 Exactly right. He played what felt good for a song at that time and place, and playing with the others. There are videos of him playing the Come together drum fill and he's just not doing the same (apart from the different frums, mics, space, etc..). The groove is slightly different, probably because he was not reacting to what the others were playing as in the original recordings.

@@7JANEWAY but even with tea towels, the sticking is disputed, whether he's going right to left or left to right on the toms, whether he's starting with his left or right hand, whether he is doing doubles in his right hand and singles with his left (which he often did with triplets). It's truly one of the best drum fills ever.
Those are some great gritty rock vocals by John here.

It's nice to see these alternate takes get released in such clean quality. This take has been floating online and through bootlegs for a while. It's amazing how much better a song can sound with audio that's just a little cleaner
This is actually the first time this full take has been available anywhere. The only other things that have been available from this rhythm track session are take 1 (Anthology 3), some other snippets (like the end of Take 3) that have floated around, and of course the master take on the album (take 8).

Man, I love hearing new takes of classic songs. It's not really the songs you get tired of, it's hearing the same performance over and over. This is like hearing it again for the first time.

I like it too... Nice and raw, punk before punk. Could've been because his voice was giving out after a long day of recording, or maybe from taking speed. I say that because everytime I've done any kind of speed, my voice would give out and start to strain and crack in just a few songs in it seemed.
