  • My friends, tonight calls for another rescue project but this time it won't be one of my "restoration" attempts, but rather me trying to save an old shelf queen! And it's not just about finishing this S35 Somua from Tamiya, but also giving her a new life with a more vivid, lively French camouflage.

Going with the French theme of this video, Takom's St. Chamond tank can be done without an airbrush. You can use grey primer as the base coat and paint the entire camouflage with brushes, that's how I painted mine in the past :)

I also suggest tamiya's hetzer, it has an hard edged camo scheme so painting it with brushes instead of masking should make for a nice challenge.

Also, any late war German tank with factory applied, hard-edged Ambush camouflage can be painted with brushes. It's just the base coat that's ideally sprayed because brushing the entire tank is really time consuming.

If you haven't tried it before, you can apply a base, then chipping fluid, one colour, then more chipping fluid, then second colour, and then chip. Essentially do it all in one step, rather than two rounds of chipping. The resulting chips will show the "middle" colour around the edges with the dark base in the middle, as you have done here with the mint showing around the edges of the dark steel chips through orange/brown camo. Hopefully I explained that well. It's much faster (well twice as fast) and this way you won't have to worry about lining up the second set of chips with the first layer of chipping. Take care!

    • @NightShiftScaleModels
