There are 3 levels of carvings:
Beginners Level - you will learn how to apply quick and simple designs to the different fruits and vegetables.
Intermediate Level - you will progress onto more detailed carving designs for larger centrepiece displays
Advanced Level - How to carve Roses and more flowers. After you master all these flowers - you can apply to larger Fruit & Vegetable such as Watermelon and Pumpkin.

This is an advanced lesson for the rose flower - it needs to show the finer details of how to angle the knife to create the curves of the petals. The correct angle of the knife is very important.
My aim is to repeat the steps allowing time for the learners to follow clearly and absorb the correct carving techniques which will help them in any fine detailed carving.

If anybody is trying to do this at home, just remember that no flower is perfect, so if you mess up one petal, don't worry about it. It's just a natural flaw of the flower :)

two things are important when you are carving the rose pattern :
- holding the knife (carving techniques lesson one)
- angle the knife

At the begining it kind of looks like the portal circle... I love it!!!
- I found if I use a thinner blade knife to carve there is less juice. If there is too much please use a paper towel to dab while you are carving.
- also check the angle of the knife while you are carving and try to avoid too many cuts or a lot of trimming. If you are making too many cuts in the same place this can create more juice as well.

We are using wooden / stainless steel skewers, wrapped with floral tape. That depends on the weight of fruit / vegetable carvings.

With a cantaloupe - leave the skin on OR peel the skin off very very thin - showing green colour - try that and please let us know the result.

Hi, you are an expert in carving!!! And it's really wonderful that you are inspiring everyone with your teaching videos. I have a question, I saw many displays where they assemble carved fruits vertically up. Do they use any iron rod and fix the fruits straight up? How is it done?
