I was 6 when the series came out in 1972 and this was among the very first TV themes I heard and fell in love with - and it's simply the best: The melody, the arrangement, especially the almost exotic choice of a cimbalom as the lead instrument. John Barry, one of the best composers for TV and film, not only James Bond but so many other classics. I LOVE IT!!!
I grew up in Istanbul /Turkey in the 70's .This captivating music would play on the radio before the news broadcast .It would send chills down to my spine .Ever since I have been looking for it without much luck .I found it on Spotify shouted a big Yay ! What a thrill ,what a masterpiece .
Just called round to see my elderly mother of 88 she sitting enjoying the Persuaders. So I went in the loft and found that she still got my records there it was in its paper wrapping lol
Wow ..I don’t know why but I became a little emotional hearing this theme, I haven’t heard it for so long. Love it !! It was like being sucked into a vortex of time taking me back to when I was 8 . My parents loved this show. In much simpler times.
"Attenti a quei due"....Negli anni 70 c'era l'usanza la sera di guardare la tv tutti insieme, genitori e figli e questa musica, così malinconica, mi ha rimandato indietro di 50 anni. Un misto tra malinconia e gioia, un tuffo nei ricordi più belli del passato, della mia gioventù.
Mine too. This particular theme song is so powerul, melancholy and evocative of the seventies....I shall never forget this melody...Thank you John Barry.
I was born in 1977 but grew up listening to this masterpiece. Mum is a big fan of the 60s and 70s era as that’s when she was growing up, so she listened to all these timeless classics and I couldn’t help also loving them xx
Promises so much more than the show delivers, but that was the genius of John Barry. I saw his last concert at the Albert Hall back in the '90's. The silence that fell over the audience just before the Bond suite began after the intermission, was electrifying. I've never felt anything like it before or since.
Well the show wasnt what was expected but lest give it some credit , moore and curtis did bounce of each other and made i what it was even though the script on occasion was a bit thin..bless em both...
I was a young mum when this TV series was in NZ. Loved the theme. The series is on again here in 2022. Enjoying all the old programs. Re- run of Midsomer Murders with Tom & Troy has just started. Love this theme & scenery too.
I loved this theme tune and loved series. My sister and I loved Tony Curtis in it as he was so cool. My husband works for funeral industry and just come home saying this music was played at the crem for the persons funeral!!! He played music from his phone.. and I initially thought Randal & Hopkirk, which also brilliant.
Unfortunately Social Media (CZcams) is a paradise for the ignorant, slick hucksters, malcontents and the sadists and trolls out there. While philosophically many (including me) support the concept of tolerance and respect, the downside is that stupid people through the ages continue to do stupid things. This era is no exception: “Ignorance is Strength” is ascendant and perhaps will come to rule supreme. And yes, perhaps this sentiment may smack of elitism, but in the face of the current torrents of cognitive dissonance, the arguably “wiser” people have to retain their sanity somehow, don’t they? 🤣 I loved the show and love John Barry’s work. This theme is haunting to me, and the musical ideas and execution is sublime for that period. I bet most, if not all those that gave the thumbs down are not just ignorant of what the track was, but I bet they’re musically bereft as well. (Apologies if any of them expressed a learned and considered opinion).
Love & play this theme now still❤️! I was 13, when it came out & was 1 of the 1st theme songs I learnt myself how to play, on my Xmas prezzy, red Bontempi keyboard 😂👌! (with only 1 finger tho🤷♂️😊).
Thanks for the upload from the original 7inch. I cannot tell how much I love this melody. A newer less unknown remix from this phantastic theme is my ring tone since many years. When I get a call, I always think of Roger Moore and Tony Curtis alias Lord Brett Sinclair and Danny Wilde. It gives me a little breathing space to look at the display and then realise who is actually calling. Furthermore, I would love to always be answering as Danny or Lord Brett Sinclair. Depending on the calling person, of course!
I was only 5 years young, in the year 1971! And I fell in love, with this melody, when my parents watched "The Persuaders"! Now, it's 2021 and I'm 54 and I still love it, but my parents died in the meanwhile! R.I.P. MOM & DAD! 😭
Same for me. Always get a tear in my eye thinking of my Mam when I hear this music. We used to watch The Persuaders together on the sofa. Happier times.
I consider myself extremely lucky to be alive and having a telly both times when two of the greatest TV tunes carried away two great TV series. The Persuaders (1971) and Sherlock (2010).
I actually bought this on record in 1972,I'm pretty.sure it got in the charts. It was never going to last,Sir Roger was off to Pinewood Studios(I live within metres)for Bond. Will miss him forever.
This series is truly cult and a forerunner. When I was young in the '70s, I sat and watched this series. Even then unique in its kind by two great personalities in Tony Curtis and Roger Moore. The music is really finely crafted for this series and matches exactly the content. Phenomenally!! Greetings from Sweden!
I listen to the Persuaders theme with a profound sense of melancholy. It is truly the end of an era. I miss the good old days with James Bond, Danny Wilde, as well as great composers such as John Barry who created this nostalgic piece and Ennio Morricone who also composed many iconic themes for French film with major actors such as Jean-Paul Belmondo who sadly passed away today (listen to Le Marginal) and Alain Delon (listen to Il Clan dei Siciliani). Even though my brothers and I were born in the 21st century our Father and Mother have thankfully helped us discover a golden age of film. Ah the end of a good time. Quel dommage...
What can i say , this tune is truly haunting and touches the soul no matter where or who you are, as a late 60,s baby i wasnt really exposed to the seriese but as it stands i have been fortunate to witness the amazing chemistry between curtis and moore, , may they both rest in eternal peace.. bless you both..
...if i remember correctly, this has "the girl with the sun in her hair" on the b-side - i am stunned and amazed that sir john could compose music so utterly beautiful for a shampoo commercial! - and one of the coolest themes of the era on the a-side!! - we were so spoiled!!

I loved the series. The german synchro had more humor than the original, so it was quite popular in Germany. This theme and the one from Streets of San Francisco were my favorite themes. There was another theme by John Barry that I liked which was used for a movie series.
I was nine. And it’s still number one of theme songs.. Still gets me goose bups.. Love it!!
😉
The best TV theme tune ever. Genius from the late great John Barry.
Oh yes!
Along with "Tales of the Unexpected" theme tune!
One of John Barrys classics, takes me back to simpler less hectic times

This track has something so British, I feel like walking the streets of London while listening
It's a central Europe aura.
It's a little reminiscent of The Third Man theme, that was set in Vienna.

Indeed, John Barry enthused even the dullest scene or show with energy.
Well the show wasnt what was expected but lest give it some credit , moore and curtis did bounce of each other and made i what it was even though the script on occasion was a bit thin..bless em both...
Lucky you
It certainly was darker in tone than the show.
Mixing the noir jazz movie genre with magyar cimbalom is the absolute footprint of this tv theme by john barry. Today, a classic.
Well spotted.
2023,still blast it in my car,,love it
From my childhood. Roger Moore will always be in my heart. Rip
Classic tune. 50yrs old, and it still clicks every time!!!! 👌👌👌👌
John Barry’s brief; Nostalgic, haunting, aching melancholy. Nailed it.
never getting old
Unlike us that remember it.
The rare instrument being played is a cimbalom. Great and so memorable this theme.
A type of dulcimer, of which I wasn't aware yet. Thanks.
A fantastic sound. This is an iconic theme. 👏
Yes!
The cymbal is an incredible instrument!
A haunting melody but so fantastic!!
Binney51 Haunting is the word! I was looking for the vibe and "dangerous" is the word that came to mind. Magical, haunting, a piece of time.
Simular haunting theme to Tales of the Unexpected.
