Lets say you are a young anime director who's eager to turn a manga written by one of your favourite mangakas into an anime. You have been a big fan of this mangaka since his early work. You then used your huge list of connections, including industry veterans, young and talented directors, webgen animators, foreign animators, and your own animation pupils to make your vision of the anime a reality
You then released the first trailer of this anime that is clearly directed with a particular style derived from the mangaka's influences. A particular section of manga "fans" praised this trailer to high heavens
Then the anime, directed with the same style as the trailer, airs. That same section of manga "fans" mocked this anime, harassed you on social media, accused you for being disrespectful to a mangaka you greatly admire. They also accused you for hating anime even though you are a webgen animator for about 10 years that belonged to a generation of the Haruhi Suzumiya boom, while also had directed an MV that has the "anime-like" style. The main complaint I heard about CSM is that it wasn't wild enough. Like people expected it to be over the top nonsense and I think that MAPPA will try to deliver more in that aspect of it (which may be appropriate given what the manga had going on) hopefully Japanese fans and can be satisfied with that but I also hope that the author of CSM can be satisfied with that. When you said only a troll can't say CSM was good, even if a person didn't like the show, I'm assuming that you mean 'good' as in looking good. If I'm correct in that assumption, I can't disagree more.
1 - You mentioned how people were complaining about the CG in the first episode, then said how it wasn't CG, but just another style of animation. I appreciate the fact checking, but if a portion of your audience mistakes a style of animation for bad CG, there's a bigger problem at play than misidentification of animation style.
2 - I can appreciate Nakayama trying something new, but not at the expense of this show looking like it does. You mention how you wished Tokyo Ghoul got the same sort of adaptation (which I can't speak too much on as I haven't read the manga, but have heard that the anime didn't live up to it), but I can at least say that I wish CSM looked the same as the Tokyo Ghoul anime.
3 - I can appreciate Nakayama harkening to the mangaka's love for Western cinema, but, as I've stated in another one of your video's comment sections, if I wanted to watch live action in the vein of a Western movie, I'd go watch Die Hard or The Wire. I'm coming to CSM with the expectation of watching an anime. And instead I found a show with off-putting animation that has a director who's openly dismissive of a medium I love.
If Nakayama truly has been dismissed, then this could be a great opportunity for the direction of the animation to turn around. Especially since the 1st season of CSM stopped just before the story really kicks into gear, the best parts of the anime could still be salvaged before the rest of the show is stuck in the weird mixture of new/CG animation to which the 1st season has been condemned.

Honestly I'm okay with that.I think the adaptation is fine. but their biggest reason on why it failed and why japanese otakus hate it because it's "cinematic" and "trying to be different" is really dumb, csm is not special. All I can say is "have you heard of the monogatari series"? IIRC it's the best selling bds of all time before Demon Slayer. LIke I'm not sure what percentage of Japanese otakus have watched arthouse french new wave films but I imagined there isn't a lot. Ryuu Nakayama already had the blueprint called Bakemonogatari but he fumbled it anyway. He doesn't understand what cinema is, he thinks realism and muted color pallete = cinema. Fujimoto already borrowed plot points, allegories and references stuff from monogatari and nisio anyway.
Also people focused on fujimoto being a westaboo cinephile when stuff he references or borrowed are mainstream pictures, he doesn't look like a hardcore cinephile. He's more Japanese inspired in my eye. All of this movies stuff are fluff. If you understand his works you can see he's more inspired by people like Takashi Miike, Kentaro Miura, Nisio Isin, Tetsumo Nihei and plethora of other Japanese artists.
This is the guy that wrote a whole manga where he beat up the guy that did the kyoani arson attack. I hate this notion of Fujimoto being a westaboo because of CSM fans who thinks Fujimoto works isn't rooted in Japanese and Otaku culture because he referenced a popular Western film! I don't think the anime adaptation is bad, I think it's a "fine" adaptation but it only perpetuate the idea of Fujimoto being a more western artist because the anime adaptation caters to normies western audiences and I hate that.

Directors like Sam Raimi (evil dead and Spiderman) feels like more in CSM style on big screen and that style also reminiscent of Japanese cinema that you mentioned. Sure the anime was "cinematic" but sorry it felt like a typical boring Hollywood action flick like directing which is the reason I jumped from Hollywood into anime and other stuff in the first place. As a huge fan of the manga the anime surprisingly doesn't do it for me cus it doesn't feel like chainsawman for most of the runtime. I don't think it was "breakin from tradition" it was NOT adherin to the TRUE essence of p1 of the manga. The thing is, the manga is not something that can be directly translated to anime in the same way. It just can't. The way Fujimoto uses panels in his manga it's practically built with experimentation. I don't think Chainsaw Man would work if they tried copying it over to anime, they should embrace the unique aspects that animation offers while letting the manga do its own thing. As a fan of the manga I felt like Ryu Nakayama did a great job at this, especially for those slice of life scenes. He took Fujimoto's heavy inspiration of western cinema, and decided to experiment by taking advantage of the pros that animation offers, like for character physical acting. I think he wanted to blend live action techniques with animation so closely that the show feels sort of outside the norm existing between the two mediums, much like how the manga does at times with all the cinematic framing. But that's just my opinion

So humor me: the way I interpret the first season of Chainsaw Man is like the first half of a film. After establishing our exposition and players a causual ramp into the atmosphere of dread and confusion sets up perfectly what would follow in the second half of the film, namely the growth of our characters and the resolution of our story. I felt that this first season ended in such a quiet, unresolved manner that most would not recognize that they were on the very precipice of the total insane chaos that lies ahead. It's so sad because now the second season will never do this story justice by completing it in the manner it was intended... CINEMATICALLY. Chainsaw Man as a manga is an entirely unique, unconventional story-telling experience. The greatest injustice done to Fujimoto's vision would be to limit it's adaptated expression to be something more "traditional," "familiar," or "in-line" with the standards and practices of the anime industry. The sublimity of Chainsaw Man is that it IS peak cinema disguised as black ink on white paper and this first season did honor that inherent sentiment, the sentiment of Fujimoto, with pen as camera, operating not as mere mangaka but as an auteur in his own right. On one final, dismal note.. could you imagine if they adapt Fire Punch without any cinematic sensibility whatsoever? Pointless.

No dude, I was really disapointed by ChainsawMan, I'm not Japanese, I'm not a troll, but something about this anime was off and it put me off. Maybe it was all the over Hype that didn't deliver. Maybe the cinamatic animation... dunno. I even asked fans if S2 would b worth it with how I'm feeling and they said that S2 would pick up right away from where S1 ended and hopefully the direction would change because they felt the same. This is what happens when they market the series for a western audience in spite of the national Japanese market.

Mob Psicho, like almost all modern top tier animated anime, has a LOT of CGI. The difference is that they blend it much better with 2D parts than MAPPA. MAPPA doesn't even try to blend CGI, that's why it looks bad at times.

@@luckyowl10 oh no the cgi wasn’t bad, I thought the Mob psycho design is better for a comedy purpose (like you can go extreme) because I love the sudden goofy moments in the manga 😊

@@luckyowl10 The only CGI that Mob Psycho 100 uses is in the background art (blended very cleverly). All of the character acting and everything else is hand drawn, and iirc the president of Bones has stated as such a few years ago. I wouldn't say it has a lot of cgi

this sucks a lot because I really like csm but I also really liked the anime adaptaion. What made the anime imo the best thing ive ever seen is that I love how csm is, its my type of media and pairing that with the visuals the anime had was like a perfect match imo. It really feels like once I find something thats perfect to me it ends up failing or crashing. I'm sure the second season will be good but man am I going to miss the cinematography the first season had.
