Stray dog in Moscow Metro

  • This dog was observed in Moscow Metro (underground rail) on 6th of October 2019.
    It was interesting to see that dog was not only using public transport but also was following public transport etiquette e.g. going deeper into cart to let people in on station, finding the most convenient position latter and moving closer to the exit before stop...
    For those who interested. The yellow ear tag means this stray dog was captured, vaccinated (including rabies), desexed and released back into environment.
    Quantity of stray dogs in Moscow well exceeds possible capacity of animal refuges to handle them. This approach is being seen by public as a more humane than destroying animals. From what I read this type of programmes exist on public donations.

      'Safe' breeds have a high chance of being adopted and rehomed. Some shelters here have waiting lists and are choosy with who they adopt out to.

      @@aumelb ah, it's so sad to me, I would rather see them on a giant reserve or something. And our shelters can be so choosy too, some refusing you if you don't have a big enough fence. One just called the police on me cuz I wouldn't bring a dog there that had been dropped off at our farm by her human "mom" cuz I said I was just calling to make sure nobody reported one missing and that I was going to keep her and integrate her into our doberman breeding program if she wasn't spayed, find her a home myself if she was... The shelter lady told me "that's immoral" and sent the police to my house who luckily let her stay! We did end up finding her human dad and his son who were not aware what the mom had done, so she is back home and the mom is gone (for now). And it turns out the dog almost constantly dribbles urine cuz that's what happens to like half of doberman females when spayed, like the shelter wanted to force on her. Anyway, we tell everybody we give pups to to bring them back to us if they no longer want them, like I wish all breeders would. It's never happened though.

    • @aumelb
      @aumelb Před 7 měsíci

      @classics39 in Australia, most dogs get adopted out of shelters. How stressful it is depends on the shelter's practices. Again, in Australia volunteers give each dog individual attention and walk them every day. Behavioural specialists also work with dogs that have behavioural issues (as a result of previous trauma or neglect) to make them ready for adoption and vets trea any health conditions they may have. They also assess any potential adopters to make sure a dogs goes into a responsible family. Much better than just letting stray dogs stay in the streets.

      Yes. This dog really knows where he is going and where to go. Previously, such dogs could often be found in the Moscow metro. Now sometimes they meet. These dogs don't ride the subway during rush hour. They go there when it's not crowded. In winter, these dogs go to the subway to sleep. It's cold outside . Cleaners are required to expel dogs from the subway. So they run to the train and sleep there. To do this, they board a train on the metro ring line. The train goes in a circle, and there the dog sleeps peacefully. If she wants to eat or drink ..... in any cafe near the metro they will feed her. Passers-by also feed these dogs. Water in the fountain. In winter, snow instead of water. It's all good when they don't get sick. If they get sick.......then they will be taken to a shelter. They are being treated there. but they are no longer allowed into the city. And no one takes adult dogs from these shelters. These are large dogs and they are used to living on the street. When Luzhkov was the mayor of Moscow... Moscow dogs were not taken to the shelter. They were treated in veterinary clinics, castrated, microchipped and released into the city. Now take it to the shelter if the dog is sick. I don’t know .... Maybe they are killed there. But they don't come back from the shelter. They always came back from the veterinary clinic.

      This dog is not homeless. He got
      lost in Petersburg. Then he went to the subway and began to look for the route along which he was traveling with the owner. This has been written and reported. The owner was also looking for him. But the dog found it himself. It is unlikely that he remembered the name of the desired station. He memorized what the desired station looked like. Therefore, he carefully watches when the doors open. Dogs that ride the subway all the time don't. They listen as the announcer announces the station they want and exit.
