- Spell crafting is an abandoned project that was first announced back in 2014 and was meant to be a huge part of the Elder Scrolls Online game. However, it was cancelled due to an unknown reason.
Now, it seems like Zenimax Online Studios is considering bringing spell crafting back to the game as a way to revitalize it. If this project is actually implemented, it would be a huge boost for the game and would bring a lot of new players back into the game. So, stay tuned! This might be the year spell crafting comes back to the Elder Scrolls Online game!

Here’s my hot take: this will be introduced as a skill line, with little customization. For the first patch of its existence it will be brutally overpowered, then nerfed into oblivion 3 months later. Once the dust settles, some classes will use maybe 1 of the skills, similar to how the psijic skill line is used now.

I have my doubts that it will be just another skill line. There is already too many options in the game there is just no extra space for more choice. The game is designed to favor those class skills.

Fr tho, how in the world are they gonna balance spellcrafting without tearing this game apart?
The game is already torn apart because of the endless attempts at "balance". ESO isn't a normal mmo by any stretch, maybe it's time for a new approach but unlikely given ZOS' history.
not hard, just add modifiers on current available skills, say you want to have a fire effect to be considered as ice, and so on. just modifiy the "element" of skills
It might be spell crafting as more of a cosmetic, like turning your Sorcerer spells green for instance.

Spellcrafting has been a thing ever since Daggerfall in 96'. Skyrim was the first ES game to not have it.
The skill look sick as. Don't know why they didn't go thorough with this
Not to be a pessimist, but I'd wager that they realized that instead of giving us it all at once, they could give it to us piece meal behind pay-walls with expansions (Warden, necromancer, new skill lines, etc.)
Those guys in the back have that look on their face knowing this was never going to be added to the game lmao
My inner skeptic already acting up wondering, how would this not fall prey to the same pitfalls of combining sets where each patch things get "rebalanced" and then everyone just finds the new meta and now you spend that much more time optimizing your spell crafting to go with your race/set/class optimized build. Like I'm sure it'd be fun initially, but once people start getting it down to a science there's probably gonna be a lot of useless spells that get separated from the few good ones and now that's just another thing to spend time optimizing for, when patch burnout already is at a high enough premium for a game that fundamentally doesn't run smoothly enough for me to want to play anymore?
i can see that, but this will always happen in any game, there is always a meta
@@TheRealGodzilla Yeah, more what I'm focusing on is layers/barriers to meta and how much more work is created for a questionable reward and if I'm a returning player I now discover I'm this much further behind and that many new quest lines away from unlocking the new skill line and decide, "meh I'm going back to ff14" or something like that.
@@TheRealGodzilla the difference being other game companies engage with their communities and their game ya know, functions.
ESO community has become it's own minigame of "what's next" hopium and "half-baked disappointment " copium of nothing-burger when something "new" is released.

Way of the fire is a cool gear set it give like 3000 proc every 2 second. Maybe a spell would do the same thing if you land 3 abilities in quick succession like league of legends electricute. Cauterize To reduce healing

Skill lines, card games, and new class/races are not content…they are enhancements. Content is what accompanies these things like storylines, quests, and zones. I don’t mind enhancements as long as they are needed and requested. I don’t know a single person that plays the card game much less requested it or thought it would ever happen. This last expansion was starved for content and it started this trend in the last couple expansions. ZOS is counting these unwanted game functions like the card game as content. They spent far too much time on its development and I am positive that this takes away from actual content development. Even achievements in new content are dying especially since account wide achievement system was implemented. As a whole the game offers less and less value for the time spent every day it seems. There is very little to keep players or cause players to return. A spell crafting spell line would be a mistake this far into the game’s progression.
If you want to look at spell crafting skills in a mmo you should check out Everquest and Everquest 2…a quest dropped/ranking system where highest ranks of spells drop from raid content and lesser ranks drop from lesser difficulty content respectively.
