There is no "getting robbed" with auditions. If you make the excuse that you had no chance because "oh wow they're just so good" then you had given up before the audition even started.

@@daddychill1027 There is "getting robbed". If there's a crazy good region and only a few kids that are in the top of that area make state, that's rigged. There can be a region that has good players but not as good as the players in the other region. This is why all state jazz is more fair. You go against everyone who auditioned. Not just a room full of 10 people. And even the all state jazz process isn't completely fair. If you made first region jazz band, you get to record. Say there were three tenors from one region that were all state level players. Only two of them would get to go. But the process for all state jazz is more fair compared to concert band. In my region, there are three Eb clarinets. They are all gauranteed area. The top of the three gets to go to TMEA to play in a state band. Technically, to make state, this person had to beat only two people. Do you see how ridiculous this is? It's unfair whereas jazz, you have to audition against 60+ people for state. It's more difficult. Especially when they count improvisation as an etude!

needs some soft playing work, typically when one decrescendos it’s nice to still be able to hear the notes.
