Ry Cooder is the best slide guitar player in the world. Paris Texas is so amazing. His music for that film just blew me away. And it still does some 30 yrs on. It’s so moody and catches your attention to set the mood. So glad his son Joachim sings, drums & collaborates with his father. His own album Over the road I’m bound, is so sweet & pure & fun to sing along with. He’s going to make his way just fine.

When I saw the movie the 1st time, in the 80s, I had no way to know any different.
At the time, I lived in a southern California town. It wasn't much different from how the movie depicted Paris TX. So it seemed logical it would be such.
Of course, the town I was in then is much more 'built out' than it was 40 years ago. But Yucca Valley is still a one horse pitstop town 😄

the movie scenes with Travis walking through the desert were actually filmed in West Texas, in the Big Bend National Park.
