Ry Cooder is the best slide guitar player in the world. Paris Texas is so amazing. His music for that film just blew me away. And it still does some 30 yrs on. It’s so moody and catches your attention to set the mood. So glad his son Joachim sings, drums & collaborates with his father. His own album Over the road I’m bound, is so sweet & pure & fun to sing along with. He’s going to make his way just fine.
Gots to watch it again, been since last century I saw the film... Got me from the get go, hell of a film. ! Emotion and quiet thought, conscience wondering what if ... 👍 All the way 💯
All these years and I never saw Ry Cooder or heard him talk about music. Bright guy. Really knows his stuff. Good looker in those days, nice legs, too.
Ry used nearly identical playing (Blind Willie Johnson's 1927 "Dark Was The Night , Cold Was The Ground" )for the 'Powis Square'. scene in the Roeg film "Performance " 1970. czcams.com/video/qePHCNoEtqQ/video.html
The United States has profited greatly from German film makers. That includes everyone from Ernst Lubitsch and all the many others that came to the United States.
Look at the interview at the Whistle Stop, when he first started performing out front. He is a beautiful man , outside and in. God Blessed him with many gifts, and Blessed us with Ry Cooder.
@@joannebrebes2962 hahahaha omg no worries at all. You’re not stupid but that is a funny mistake. I’ve seen all of them. He’s been on it three times actually. Did you see all three?
When I saw the movie the 1st time, in the 80s, I had no way to know any different. At the time, I lived in a southern California town. It wasn't much different from how the movie depicted Paris TX. So it seemed logical it would be such. Of course, the town I was in then is much more 'built out' than it was 40 years ago. But Yucca Valley is still a one horse pitstop town 😄

Paris Texas, what an impactful movie, script, music, acting, photography, couldn’t have been better❤😊
I love the movie - the soundtrack is amazing, one of my favorites. Ry is incredible, love him.

ry's got a real knack for a wim wender's impersonation
The scenes at the end of this vid are amazing.
Ry understands more about photography than most 'photographers.'
Michael Staub Ry is quite an artist

lOVED THE MOVIE - PARIS, TEXAS.
Guitar Player Magazine "We're doing an issue on slide guitar".
Paul Barrere (of Little Feat) "Then you should talk to Ry".
extraordinary film with o.s.t.to match.
Agreed, so atmospheric.
very cool
Then the sky has meaning.
Dark was the night
Cold was the ground
Very true that the score was like half the movie..and specifically for what cooder says..Stanton doesn't speak for half the movie

My favourite soundtrack of all time, but why is Mr Cooder listed as writer on Dark was the night
Because the night belongs to us
@@janhoggart I thought it was because the night belongs to lovers...
Have you listened to Dark was the Night? It sounds like this video.

I know it must be such a cliche', but a rare gift . I'm just happy it ain't my cross to bare.
Man, half of this thing is credits. Nothing about his music making at all
My goodness he is/was gorgeous.

Actually the Big Bend in West Texas...

WEST TEXAS!!!!!!! PECOS SPECIAL......IRANN TEXAS........SOON TO RETURN.........
Well, I love the track but Paris, TX looks nothing at all like anything depicted in this vid.

the movie scenes with Travis walking through the desert were actually filmed in West Texas, in the Big Bend National Park.
I must be the only one who detests Travis in "Paris Texas" to the point of distorting my appreciation of the cinematography.
his voice a bit like Obama I think.... (?)
you know that's really dead on lol
@@krisscanlon4051Interesting I hadn't noticed that before!
Ry Cooder interviewed 6 yrs and was grey haired and fatter . This is not Ry
Of course, this is our Ry ; apparence n'est pas essence, look is not essential being. And everyone gets old one day, it's life.
