Yes... Straight cut gear box. That's the noise you hear. That's strong, compact and in some gearbox you can even change gears to match the track. Effective but noisy. Some road car have it for reverse.
it's because of the straight gears, also known as dog box. most gearbox's are made for smooth shifthing, wich means gears are in an angle of each other, this makes it more fragile in comparison to straight gears, were the gears are not in an angle but in front of each other. that makes the winey sound, just like the reverse gear every street car has.

The fighter jet sound comes from a supercharger (not turbo). A stock M3 is naturally aspirated, at least the E9x. This mod, properly done will run you upwards of $10k. Hope this helped.

Helical gears. Reverse gear typically is set up in helicals, making that sound in reverse. Probably set up similar to that

@Johnny Bravo - its the solid aluminum differential mounts and the engine mounts. My car sounded the same after i converted it to a track car.
