I only found this channel this holiday season but y'all bring me such joy. I love the vibes, the humour, Akasha, the book analyses, y'alls charm, it doesn't even matter that our tastes in books don't match fully. I still find new books to add to my tbr mountains and, even better, books to remove from my tbr to justify adding better ones later.

I don’t understand why dark academia has such a big draw for readers, because any time I’ve read a book marketed as such, it’s left me so disappointed. Like In My Dreams I Hold a Knife. I was so annoyed with the MC, and the whole time I was wondering what was academic about it other than half the story was set during her college years.

Most of the Dark Academia books I’ve read have been veeery boring. I think people like it so much because it’s fashionable

I wasn't interested the things we do to our friends and after seeing reviews I am happy I wasn't. LOL "she's a protagonist because she has a /past" 😂😂😂😭 Y'all not wrong and y'all's expression cracked me uuuup. Jesse!! That scene in hereditary is one of the scariest things I have seen in horror 😝 but that might be me as an older sibling who cannot think of being in a worse situation of blame for that happening to someone I love so much (aka my younger sister).

I know y'all don't like it but i picked up Such Pretty Flowers. Im using it as a litmus test to see if I like flower body horror. So I view it as "baby's first introduction to flower body horror" hopefully I'll like it so I can fully enjoy Tripping Arcadia! Also I have a high tolerance for foolishness, so I'm just going to suspend my disbelief that the main character sleeps with her brothers murder. So thank y'all Jesse!

I’m so happy you talked about Leopoldo Gout! I’ve read his series Genius and was deeply disappointed about the second book. He really does write like he’s writing a movie and maybe they would work better that way

@@JesseOnCZcams Apologies in advance if you've already read these and I just missed the video! okay so for horror I was a fan of Fever House (the author had EVERY opportunity to make it an edgelord's wet dream, but I was so pleasantly surprised with how he wrote the female characters, hell, even the male ones!)
I have no idea why, maybe because I'm a disgusting person, but I enjoyed Lapvona.
The Worm And His Kings, along with The Festering Ones, are two very small stories you can knock out in an hour or two. Both feature badass women and monsters. The mc for TWAHK is Trans and unhoused.
I forget, have you read The Ruins? That's probably the scariest book I've ever read, honestly. Botany horror and just dread throughout the whole thing.
Some eerie titles I remember are Our Wives Under The Sea, The Watchers, Negative Space.
My fav non-horror reads were Glitterati, Three Kings (by Freydis Moon,) and Stars In Your Eyes, although this one is very hard to read at times (s.a.)
I unfortunately haven't read a whole lot of botany horror, but I'm on the lookout!
