    I have both the Predator 3500 and later bought the Champion 4650 dual fuel. The 3500 I bought is the newer configuration but just before COSense which I'm glad it doesn't have, something I wish the Champion didn't have, either. The Predator seems just a hair quieter to me when pushed to the limit vs. the Champion. That being said, despite running very well, the Predator lacks the fit and finish of the Champion. Some of the panels on the Predator don't quite line up and the wheels seem flimsy. The Champion is tight A to Z. Better quality control in my opinion. Bottom line, the Predator makes a good throw down for harsh conditions or when you don't want to punish the other one in your stable.

    Thanks for the great test! I'm curious about running 3000+ watts thru a 20 amp breaker. I have a Workhorse 4500 but have never run that much thru the 20 amp circuit. The meter showed 3075 watts at 25.5 amps. Shouldn't the breaker have tripped? I see the Predator has a 20 amp breaker on the double outlet also. What do you think?

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Před rokem +1

      Eventually the breaker will trip. Or the generator will go to over load. But 20 amp is good for 2400 watts but can go over for a little bit. On a home it would trip quicker. Plus I think I did this test when it wasn’t very hot so that helps.

      I have owned a lot of generators. If reliability is the measure, Honda is by far the best. If you are only going to use it for periodic purposes, the others are fine, but if you want to use it every day, and have it work every day, get the Honda.

    I'm sure you have another video but what I was more interested in is the fuel economy because you know a lot of the bigger ones and a lot of the smaller ones have about the same size of tanks of fuel and you know I would be more interested on how much fuel it's going to cost you to sit here and run something. I didn't know they had a 2200 watt Honda. But you by the Westinghouse 2200 watt for about half the value if not more than half the value of a Honda. And now I see it's almost just as good to have a solar set up and have a set up where you can actually charge from solar and from battery going into a unit and inverter lithium battery setup. I know Westinghouse has a thousand watt hour solar generator and I'm just wondering if it would go along with the 2200 watt generator. They come out a lot of crazy things lately. I'm not just saying Westinghouse I'm seeing a lot of brands have.

      It’s true a lot of transition right now for power stations and more. In about 3 years I think we will really see some big gains on power. This will apply to battery as well. Unfortunately the biggest thing for the Rv market is a running a ac unit. Most can do with out a microwave.
      Will be interesting to see soon.

      The Westinghouse has cool features as well and a bigger engine but not as fuel efficient and notably louder.

      If you run a single item that runs 60 db, running another item that’s also 60 does not double the sound out put or pressure.
      But it does make it sound more full.
      I have a video or two that shows the sound level of two units running and showing the sound levels.
      And one read 64db and two made it go to 65-66 if I remember….
      It’s minimal the added extra.
      Now the Honda 3000is is a different beast because it has a real muffler that’s big and the unit is heavy. So it really muffles sound, but over all the 3000 unit is quieter at max load, but two 2200s is a lot more power all the way around and cheaper.
      So depends what ya want and what ya need.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Před 2 lety

      It’s the new version powerhorse which is what predator copied along time ago from the original 3500. Only thing I saw that was different is newer inverter board allowing more power. And I assume more windings on the generator.
      I don’t hear much bad about it. But be sure to run it once in a while unless properly stored.

    • @johnnysweekends

      Yes, I mean if your spending $850 do you buy the same 3500 watt unit or get more power with a little bit of update and a Rv plug if that means anything. It’s the exact same unit except the new features.

    Hi everyone, could a better muffler make a difference? Like an auto muffler?

    • @simonkolar5478
      @simonkolar5478 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I have a home-made enclosed generator with an automotive mid muffler. It's better than the original muffler but the generators here are in a different league so unless you have an open-frame generator I doubt an automotive muffler will help much.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Před rokem

      0-1000 feet not needed. Honestly good to go up to about 3500. After that a little loss will be noticed but I have ran many from my home at 550ft to 4500 feet and do well unless its hot and a higher load a jet kit would benefit. Especially if you live at that altitude.

      Considering the price of the iq3500 and it’s kinda a block with no way to move it easy I would grab several other units for cheaper or with more power for the price.

      @johnnysweekends  Před 2 lety

      Well maybe I’ll find one because I know right now 40% is a really bold claim to be that much quieter because so far nothing really is. The Hondas tone also helps as far as the tolerable noise it puts out.
      Now granted the Honda is a tough machine but for todays world it’s now overpriced, heavy and low on power compared to what you can buy as far as other options.

I use the 2200 daily and it’s a beast, has never not started for me and has never tripped. I personally own a iQ3500 and did extensive research on it along with every other generator in its class and am convinced the Generac owns the 3500 inverter class

      Doesn’t exactly work like that. The blowers are not as loud. So the sound pressure they put out is less than the generator. So only the generators pressure levels are are really pushing the meter.

    Ironically "Westinghouse" *claims* almost 10db lower than Champion. Maybe with zero load and further away. They seem shady regardless. Lots of reports of horrific CS also. Never heard a legit complaint with Champion customer service. I have friends they sent replacement parts for free well out of warranty period, or high altitude kits also. They also seem to be attempting to continue making more features available for less money, vs pushing the cost up like other vendors. The 4500/4650 retail is quite a bit lower than the older 3300 or whatever models. Just pray they'll come out with a remote start 4k or 5k-ish watt continuous with 220v output, or the dream would be a remote start parallel capable 2300 watt model with auto start slave. Not sure why nobody see's the market for something like this?

      You realize that audio compression is going to make "hearing how loud it is" is not possible. Just look up comparisons in regards to dB readings. 60 dB is about as loud as a conversation.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Před 11 měsíci

      Well, that may be true, the audio compression through CZcams and also my editing platform, which I try to use none during those parts still doesn’t give a comparison. If you put two generators side-by-side, you can hear the audio difference with one being slightly louder or even the tone being slightly different it does give a little bit of a comparison versus just saying it’s as loud as a conversation.

  • @serchme54
    @serchme54 Před 2 lety

    I don't get the comparison? The test is using generators that have different wattage ratings. I would expect a 4500 watt unit to have to work harder than a 3500 watt unit. Your test is invalid and as for me it proves nothing. Now a head to head wattage would be more believable and accurate.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  Před 2 lety +3

      A head to head on same load or same size generator. This gives everyone a idea of a common load that would be placed on several different models.
      And for the most part only a couple vary enough to notice by ear but most are with in 2-3 db. Unless you wanna carry a db meter around. Invalid to you I’m sorry, helpful for many others as they just want the basic info.
      Plus tone also matters.
