  • Genesis: The Fall: Disobeying the Will of God
This message is brought to you by Pastor Darryl Morrison
    Main Scriptures:
    Genesis 3:6-24
As we journey through Genesis 3:6-24 here's what God will teach us about:
Temptation: our desires that entice and drive us to sin
Revelation: our realization of just how naked we really are when we choose ourselves over God
Confrontation: when we must face God after we disobey
Ramification: God will respond right to our wrongs
Redemption: though we are exposed and sentenced to death because of our sins, God will cover us and still offer us life.
Consequences: even though God redeems us it doesn't mean He will allow us to remain the same. Because of our fall in the garden things will never be the same.
Recap: Deceive God's people, distort God's word
    Temptation: Genesis 3:6-8
    Causing you to disobey
    James 1:13-15
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
    1 John 2:15-16
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Father but is of the world. (1 John 2:16)
Temptation simply means, “the serpent can’t make you sin, but he can make you want to sin.”
    Revelation: vs. 7
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
Their eyes were opened. What did they see when their eyes were opened? When we choose to disobey God’s instruction, what is the first thing you see/realize?
    - With God you can run but you can’t hide.
    The Confrontation: vs. 9-11
9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” 11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
    - When you run away from God where are you going?
    - At some point God will confront us and our acts of disobedience.
    Ramifications: vs. 14-19
-The Serpent (vs. 14-15): You will live in hostility.
    - The Woman(vs. 16): Your desires will dominate you.
    - Adam (vs. 17-19): Where man disobeys there will be disorder.
    - Do not be fooled, there are ramifications to us choosing to disobey.
    Redemption: vs. 20-21
-Though sin will expose and produce death, God will cover and offer us new life.
    Consequences: vs. 22-24
    - God will redeem but it doesn’t mean He will allow us to remain in the garden.
    - Redeem doesn’t mean remain.
