  • The layered film tells the story of a woman married to three brothers-a hark back to the epics, but with a decidedly modern tone. Film critic Meenakshi Shedde, who is also the India and South Asia delegate to the Berlin Film Festival, meets the cast and crew in Berlin for more

I love Nepal, Buddhism, Tibetans, and the many ethnic minorities of the Himalayas. I am a Nepali Chhetri but grew up among Tamangs in my household in remote North-Eastern Nepal, but have been living in America and China for 42 years now.
Nepal is made of a myriad of different ethnic peoples who peacefully coexist in Nepal, upholding their own unique culture, traditions, and languages without hinderance. I am so happy that Nepali people of Tibetan descent have been able to flourish and achieve such heights on the world stage as showcased by this magnificent Nepali film.
Let’s not forget that even the renowned Tamang and Gurung races of Nepal migrated to Nepal from Tibet thousands of years ago but still retain a part of their Tibetan cultural heritage. In stark contrast the dominant Chettri and Bahun castes of Nepal migrated to Nepal from India just a few hundred years ago, but have been dominating modern Nepal for too long.
I am so glad that other Nepali ethnic groups, including Tibetans, are now doing so well too. All Nepalis should celebrate and be proud of this, instead of resorting to petty bickering for no good reason whatsoever.

This is a reality of being Tibetan/refugee.. although this is a great movie played entirely by Tibetans who showcases a story of Tibetan culture Dholpo which is politically a part of Nepal but historical and culturally non arguable Tibet…
Since the director is from Nepal, they registered to this festival in the name of Nepal… so giving credit to the real ethnicity/background of the actors is very crucial and the culture they are portraying … so proud to be a Tibetans actors in the name of Nepal….

India has a huge population who speak nepali and share similar culture doesnt mean they are nepali.
Similar way dolpo is a part of nepal that is heavily influenced by tibetan culture and tradition doesnt make it tibet.
For me its secondary whether its tibetan or nepali, main thing is the story that movie tries to portray and the success it has reached is much more important.
