If your going to pull the manifold off, makes sense to put new injectors in there as well. I did it all this when I did the AOS - new oil cooler, new starter, new injectors and everything associated with AOS. Since everything is going to be pulled out anyways, do it now and not have to do it later!
Fyi, to eliminate the risk of intermix, smoking and hydralock, you should go with the UAOS with track drain. Better aos system plus you don't have coolant run thru it. Not to mention it can handle an extra quart of oil overfilled. After 2 oem aos failures in a short amount of time on my 996 I never used one again. Went to the motorsports aos for over a decade and then this year the UAOS track version. You can find it thru Google or plenty of threads on RL.
Very cool. I’m a long time loyal bmw subscriber for years now but all this Porsche content make me really want one. Very awesome to see the differences in these amazing German cars. When the e46 is done let me know. I got a trailer ready!
Knowing me, i would've stuffed paper towels in the intake ports to keep parts and debris out. Not sure what they look like though so not needed? Thank you for making these videos.
You can replace the oil cooler by removing the alternator, it's much easier via the alternator then removing the manifold. Loosen do alternator bottom bolt and tap with a hammer and it slips right out
I'd take care of that water pump before starting the car again. You risk breaking off impeller blades and have them lodge themselves in a cooling jacket somewhere causing a hot spot that would require an entire engine rebuild.
Do you have a link or description for search terms to delete or upgrade the intake manifold mixer flap? Mine leaked, and I fixed it, but I'll be going in there for the AOS accordion leak, and I might as well upgrade that flapper.
I bet the owner of this car probably took it out on a Sunday, Maybe for a few hours put 10 miles on the car and then just let it sit and drive it next month. And I've guess I always heard the worst thing is to just let a car sit, and like you said it's not mileage it's just rot and age. I wonder if he drove it more regularly and had maybe 80k on it, if it would have been in better shape?
I don't understand why u are just guessing whats wrong with the oil and water mix, instead of doing correct diagnosis. 90% of the time its cracked head or porus crankcase. This problem has been apparent on all watercooled since inseption.

I've wanted to buy 996 but worried about doing these deep maintenance items. Now I know!! Thanks! Subscribed
Pay somebody to do it for you.
So much knowledge and ability!!! Love your vids.
The best thing about your videos is your natural pace of explaining stuff and not doing the typical youtube screaming with fake excitement.
I'm going to be doing the AOS and coolant overhaul on my 996 C4S soon - this video is super useful! Thank you!
You should get an air-cooled Porsche next for the channel. I would also settle for an air-cooled VW.
Wooohooo, parts are in!
Nate we all appreciate your mechanic skills

Great job Nathan! Impressive knowledge!
Thank you for sending the car here and making it possible for everyone to see

💯👍💯👍💯👍💯👍💯👍
Do you suppose the parts are the exact same for the AOS and oil cooler between LHD and RHD cars?

He's already checked it in the other video. And besides, this gives my intermix situation some hope 🙈
All This.. and a paycheck too.. NOICE!
