I have several favorite works to get to know about harmonics on the piano and be able to teach this fascinating world to my students. The other two are already posted in the channel:
    • Robert Sherlaw Johnson...
    • Ge Gan-ru - Gong
The piece is cold and powerful. There are no emotional outbursts here, but there is a unique, meditative and magnificent sound. Like music from outer space, of planets and light-years distances. Like most of the works that I present here, this one is also very well written for the piano. A benchmark in terms of clarity of ideas and how to put them on paper.
On very large pianos like the one in the recording, the harmonics are very far away and you have to devise ways to make it more comfortable. In the future I will publish a lesson about it.
Another composer very little known outside his native country. I'm very sorry about that and I don't understand it at all. I hope this helps raise awareness about him.

Just as a point of interest, perhaps in future you could give a little more information about composer and piece? In this case I happened to know he's Danish and this piece suggests the influence of electronic music...
Otherwise the piece struck me as rather thin in terms of complexity. More a piece of sound design than 'composition'. The performance (as usual) sounds exemplary, as far as I can judge.

Hi. Yes, this is something I’m beginning to do in my Patreon space.
Complexity matters are very important for me and you will see that I’m most interested in approaching repertoire that moves away from it. One day I will have to talk in detail of my thoughts on the matter. But I will say that right now, I’m more and more interested in pieces that have some scarcity of material but produce in my mind a powerful effect. Like this one does for me…thanks for sharing your thoughts…

@@RicardoDescalzo Yes, I find a lot of the pieces you have recorded tend towards 'sound design'. Or to put it another way, you seem to prefer to work with linear development rather than 'counterpoint' (in a very general sense).
Incidentally one of my favourite pieces of late 20th century piano music is 'Piano' by Morton Feldman, which combines these two elements - linear succession and simultaneity - in an interesting way.

Interesting. I never thought of it that way. Actually, I try to be as open as possible to different styles and trends, but I try to avoid complexity at all costs. I think it is one of the main plagues of contemporary music that is causing so many people to lose perspective.

@@RicardoDescalzo I absolutely see your point and feel myself the same way.
By the way, Feldman's approach to composition pretty much correlates with your thoughts on complexity, I think.
Also, I'm not sure it's possible to draw the line between a sound design piece and music, neither it's a topic for discussion after Cage. For instance, I would never call Lockwood's music a sound design. Same goes for Luc Ferrari, etc.
Thank you for all your work!

@@zerobject I adore Feldman's music. It is not a composer I have played myself, but some of his compositions are absolute favourites: Rothko Chapel for instance.
