It's that time of year again, that time where I draw Teft's death. Again.
Whelp, I'm just like this!

I also forgot some of the tattoos for the bridgemen, and it was after I saved all my files as JPG. So sue me.
This one took a long time to make. I was and am dealing with a lot of insecurities about my art and my skill levels. I'd sit with my project open, but just pause and feel like anything that I drew would be wrong. Once I started drawing, it'd come out fine, but I just was dealing with... stuff. Work can be an excuse for delays, of course, but even though I'm excited about finally getting it done and sharing this one with you, I'm really nervous that it won't live up to the delay and the time that I made you wait for it.
As always, the best part of my day is sitting down and reading through the comments you leave; they make me smile even when I'm having the worst of days, and it drives me to make more of this stuff for you.
Who knows? There may be a Lift animatic in the future, to "Everything is Awesome" from the Lego movie.

Forever weeping over the fact that Teft got to see his captain speak the 4th Oath from Shadesmar

@@Undefined01463 When Kal has that spiritual vision seeing Tien Kal hears "Say it lad! Do it!"
This was minutes after Teft died on the cusp of the 4th oath and invested. If you die invested you stay on in Shadesmar for a bit (like Eshoni at the end of RoW) so considering the type of language used it was very likely Teft, getting the hope he died full of vindicated.
Also fun fact. For the same reason, since Elhokar died in OB on the cusp of the first oath he probably stayed on in Shadesmar long enough to see Kal fail to save his city or his son, meaning the last thing he saw before passing on to the Beyond was the person he brought to succeed where he believed he himself would fail also failed.

I just finished Rhythm of War yesterday and was saving this video to watch.

This is perhaps the most emotive animatic of yours I’ve seen, I just feel so captivated by the great expressions and song choice.
“We chose” that scene still fucks me up.

That put Kaladin’s journey in such *perfect* perspective and I cried in 2 seconds at ||teft and tien|| and I don’t cry easily

A couple of things I really appreciate about this one!
1. I'm so glad you weren't afraid to revisit some of Kaladin's early scenes for this one. They fit so well to the lyrics.
2. Your drawing (especially faces) is seriously improving!
3. The font! I didn't catch this until now, but did you make your own glyph-like font for these videos?!
I was worried; my dad complained about that actually, he asked if I'd already done those parts before! I'm glad that it wasn't too repetitive to go back to the beginning.
I was shocked, myself! I love watching and rewatching my work, and watching "Warrior" then checking out my latest one, in just a year and a few months, I never expected to see improvement like this. I guess it's payoff for hundreds of sketches for animatics!
Sort of! My handwriting is usually very curvy, but I wanted a font that worked with my art (so, handwritten) but wasn't just Times New Roman abrupt. So I worked on a jagged font. It's pretty rough in the first couple, but now I can switch between fonts pretty easily. You'll see some names and animatics done in my normal handwriting, but for serious animatics, I break out my jagged-y font.

Damn, you just really like to pull at the heartstrings at Christmas time. Last year with Teft, and then now with everyone.
I absolutely love your interpretation of Maya, so much of your art has become my head cannon for how everyone looks.
I started introducing my partner to stormlight this past year, and I am constantly looking forward to the next animatic I can share with her when we reach the appropriate spots. Please keep up the great work, the way you blend the music and art is amazing and beautiful.
Edit cause I just watched a second time and noticed Dallet and company showing up in the background for the various people Kaladins shard plate saves and it just hit me so hard. The different touches you put in like that just add so much to the animatics.

The vision with Tien... It broke my heart. Reading that, that day, had me crying. Actual tears, from mere words on a page. That was when it really struck me, the power books have on us.
That vision may be one of the most emotionally charged moments in a book I'll ever read. The mere memory triggered by that brief scene in this animatic was enough to make me relive that emotional rollercoaster all over again.
How would you feel about making a longer animatic dedicated to that scene of Kaladin and Tien? Surely, there has to be a song out there that captures the feeling of that vision.
If I had to hazard a suggestion, perhaps "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas, covered by Joy Aileen?
Or... well, I recently heard this song, and I've only seen only one animatic dedicated to it. Perhaps "Brother" by Kodaline?

Less about that scene, more their relationship as a whole. Just detailing their whole life at Hearthstone, with their childhood together, the blossoming of their Nahel bonds, the coming of Roshone, his attack on Kaladin's family, the conscription of Tien, ending with Kaladin huddled amidst a bloody battlefield, clawlike painspren reaching from the ground, cradling Tien's broken body, tearfully promising to protect him.
This is simply amazing!

Absolutely gorgeous art to go with a stunning song! I don't know why, but I always love the songs you choose to go with your animatics. They always seem like quieter, calmer choices than I would have picked, but full of such strong emotions when combined with your art and Sanderson's story.

I’m not sure if it was you, but someone or some people had been consistently asking for more Adolin and his arc. While not as flashy as the radiants, pun intended, he is fantastic and deserves more focus.

I have a song recommendation, ' Soldier', by Fleurie, Tommee Profitt.
Made me think of the way of kings, specifically, and kaladins journey there. The line "careful son, you got dreamers plans" really hit hard considering his ideals and dreams that the lighteyes try to crush.
Your animatics really make my day - they bring a fresh perspective on characters and bring Sanderson fans together, so thanks for all you do! ❤

I think another interesting perspective would be from Syl's point of view, but honestly, I don't think it would have been as good. You did an amazing job (as always)
also that stick was amazing
I had a poll up asking which version to use, the original, softer, slower version or this alternate version. While this alternate fits better with the mood, in the original, there's an extra part during the instrumental bridge, "We carry on, through this storm, tired soldiers in this war, remember what we're fighting for..." In which I was going to draw Syl and her first radiant and her trauma and recession. I'm not sure how those panels would have come out, and I wouldn't have been able to do them very well without a little more detail into Syl's past, but sacrificing Syl's screentime was something I had to do. I want to make one that focuses a little more on her, but Kaladin does tend to take front and center in the books; I need to read a little more detail on Syl, some scenes from her perspective. I wonder if we'll get a book with Syl flashbacks! I know probably not, but I kind of want one.
Why did I have to find this beauty once again?
Dalinar's past, Elhokar, Maya, Teft... it's as if I watched old friends getting hurt once more.

Specifically, the story of her holding her family together through sheer willpower. I think that fits incredibly well, and could offer a fresh perspective on those events.

That one fits a lot for Shallan! I want to wait for KoW, because I guarantee there's more for Shallan's backstory, lol.

Yes, just working on my own personal motivation. Lift should be next, if I can get my lazy butt to draw (it takes talent to draw with that particular appendage), and I want to do a Wax and Wayne one after Book 4 comes out soon.
