" obviously with patient attached "
A physician who has retained her sense of humor.
I could no more do what these & all medical professionals do daily than fly like a bird.
Great show
Omg I’m so glad John survived and appears to be doing well! Thank god for the team that looked after him!
Apparently he died 6 years later in another cycling accident
@@strawberrysoymilkshakeARE YOU KIDDING
Wow! John's recovery is incredible, and he seems like a good chap as well.
And he kept a good sence of humor too...the laugh at the end was great!!
sadly he died 3 years ago after another accident :(
@@jydeinden that's heartbreaking. I hope Suki and their children are doing okay without him.
It was good to see John’s recovery. And Pat’s family is wonderful. It was a joy to watch them.
I am blown away by the kindness and professionalism you all show to your patients. You have definitely raised the bar for the rest of the world. Well done.
I worked in a large trauma hospital for 12 years as a Respiratory Therapist. We worked on all traumas, codes and every Intensive Care Unit. I remember learning how to compartmentalize each event, every day. Bicycle and motorcycle accidents were always the worst.
The relationships especially with the older people made me cry. I just found my soulmate at 42 and now I’m thinking I don’t have a lot of time left now… I feel like for the first time in my life I found my person! I get sad thinking that eventually we will die…. I was balling when that woman said she pats the side of the bed
Ohhh ...there's a very unfortunate update: this episode was aired in 2015, but 6 years later, John had another cycling accident, and he could not be saved from this last one. Check Cambridge's Department of Earth Sciences Alumni News from April 17, 2021. John Smallwood (Earth Sciences 1990-97)
Some people never learn.
@@IamBraadswhat was he supposed to learn? To not ride his bike anymore?? I'm pretty sure people are allowed to do that.. maybe the jackasses who speed down the roads should slow down and look out. Or maybe there should be more accessible bike paths for people to use.
@@IamBraads accidents do happen.. some are just more unlucky than others

Oh that’s terribly sad to hear. My thoughts go out to his wife and children. my hubby cycles had two accidents with #pelvis both times luckily no
More major injuries and still cycles today aged 79.
RIP John
Pat talking about her husband…🥰 I feel the same way about my precious husband. He is the best part of me and I can’t imagine living without him. We’ve been married for 21 years and together for 25. He is the most perfect human. I love him so much.
😊
I started sobbing hearing her talk about her husband. That kind of love can't be bought. Your comment is really sweet. I wish the best for you two! I hope I'll be able to find love like that someday ☺️
I’m so happy to see John to make such a recovery after so much damage to his body. I pray he continues to fully recovery!

I hope you're joking@@strawberrysoymilkshake
@@user-nx9bg1ej6i no it was for real

-dont know why someone-
-would " joke " about that ...-
@@strawberrysoymilkshake Why did he keep cycling? It's so dangerous in London...and he had a family too. Like? Come on.
This is such a fine show. They do a wonderful job of showing all the human connections, emotions, and love. Thanks to all who produce this wonderful program for us to enjoy.
When we said we were thirsty, my dad would say...I'm Friday, want to come over Saturday & have a Sunday?😂
John was lucky! He kept his humor. He knows who his wife is. Bonus!
You can tell how much Pat loved and still loves her husband.
Wow John! You look awesome. The fact you're alive, walking, talking, and cracking jokes is a testament to your will to live and get better. That and some kick ass doctors.
He unfortunately died 6 years later in another cycling accident. Heart breaking the first accident didn’t stop him from cycling again, with 3 young kids
I’m very happy that John didn’t suffer too much personality change - I know of one case with a much less severe accident that resulted in an enormous life changing personality change.
Wow great job done by the doctors amazing!!! John looks amazing I really thought he wasn’t going to make it but wow well done to everyone involved and good health to John. ❤
Ive ridden motorcycles off and on since i was 12. I started out on dirt bikes. I love to ride especially with family and friends. I love a ride just myself. It gives me a chance to ket everything go. I was riding home one day and i was 4 moles from home. A lady pulled out in front of me causing me to t bone her. I flipped over the car and landed on my left side. My head hit the ground so hard that i got an instant tingle. I had a new helmet that i had worn 2 times before this. I broke 4 ribs punctured lung, hematoma on my liver and broken left hand. They said if I hadn't had a faceshield on my helmet that the left of my face would had suffered major damage. I stayed in the trauma unit for 6 days. I came home with alot of recovery ahead of me. I decided not to ever get back on another motorcycle not even as a passenger. I miss it, but I dont miss what I went through. I wasn't mad at the winan that caused the wreck. She was 71 and just didn't see me. She sends a Christmas box every year with baked items and a small gift. She still apologizes for it. Its just life and accidents happen. Stay safe! ❤
John's recovery is a blessing, he had excellent care and a reason to stay.
How beautiful it is to see the love John and his wife have
OH MY GOD!!! HOW IS THAT MEN WALKING?? TALKING?? HIS FACE LOOKS GREAT. ITA GOD + NHS
He died in another accident a year or so after, so incredibly sad!

Watching Pat talk about her husband was so cute, I balled!!
Thank goodness John! Well done!
Yes❤ I was so invested in him because his wife loved him so much
Pat I lost my husband 5 and a half years ago. I understand where you are coming from.
I’m was almost afraid of seeing John’s face! Omg! 😢😢😢

I love how spiffy Adrian looks in his shirt and sweater.
Amazing how people are so resilient!
WHY WOULD ANYONE CYCLE IN LONDON. watching this program reinforces my position too never taking a bike or a bicycle in London.
Always great content!❤
Thank you !!
All the best, John! My stepfather was in a vegetative state for 13 years after a bicycle accident and finally died. Dear John, enjoy life every day and get well soon!!
I wish i lived in the UK if nothing else, for the healthcare
How very special.
Pats sorrow around her husbands death was so sincere and was really sweet.
Absolutely brilliant, my dears!
Thanks so much for sharing, and all love and best wishes to the patients ❤️
Thanks for the upload
All these years and Ann never thought to ask Adrian where he was for that year?
😄
John & Suki ❤
John is hilarious and awesome!
In the first case in the scan how is it possible to not remove his ring. Protocol must says all metalo object must be removed. Then how wood you have a clear image?????
Not all scans require you to remove jewellery.
With a CT scan any metal will show up on the scan so they have you remove anything metal/jewelry in the area that is being scanned. If they were scanning his hand they would remove his wedding ring. A CT scan is like a 3D advanced X-ray. If you are having an MRI you would have to remove all metal/jewelry prior to entering the room because an MRI uses very strong magnets. You also have to let them know if you have any metal in your body (plates, screws, defibrillator) and many MRI techs actually use a metal detector wand (like they use in the airport) to ensure any metal in the body is non magnetic. This why they now use surgical steel or titanium when putting in permanent screws, rods, plates, etc. as they can go through the MRI machines.
10/10 answer..
They were primarily scanning his head so probably didn't need to bother
I think i want to move to the UK where people seem to love each other and stay married through thick and thin. At least that's what this show makes me think.❤
What year was this clip from?
3 incredible stories. John and Suki were being watched over by the greatest healer of all. 47:30
10:36 People, people be careful when naming your child. This lady's name sounds exactly like the word for female dog in Russian.
Car 1, Bike 0 🙂
Oh, he died in another accident. Car 2, Bike still 0.
Adrians wife is a bit odd...very stoic and a bit strict sounding
It was the same for me and she wrote it on a calender
I wonder how many people have had a heart attack while in the hospital with someone that had a heart attack?
