Racer X Films: Hangtown 125 All Star Race

- 125s make their return to seven rounds of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross this summer. Ryan Villopoto also made his return by lining up at Hangtown MX for this exhibition race. Turn up the volume and watch him alongside other former pros like Will Hahn, Jimmy Albertson, and David Pingree. These races are also a great opportunity for young talent like Aiden Tijero to race on the big stage before turning pros themselves.

It should totally be at least included with the NBC Sports Gold Pass! If they can show us qualifying sessions - they can show us the All-Star race!

This needs to happen at every round. Pre-mix, reed valves, and carburetors will make mx great again. It would have been cool to see Steve Lamson in this too. A 125 all star race at Hangtown just screams his name. Also on a sad note about 125 greats, R.I.P. Brian Swink 125 Legend.
Dominic Sinicrope would be good to see a Lammy replica 96 cr125 out there, see how competitive it is!?

Armen Mike Gabriel Yeah Swink was great to watch on a 125 back then. He just went for it all the time. He was an inspiration for me at the time when I was on 60s and 80s. What about Ezra Lusk and Mickael Pichon? I really miss the mid and late 90s motocross. Even the early 2000s with my boys from District 5 jumping in there Travis Pastrana and Branden Jesseman.
The only way this gets any better is an additional 250 race.
The 250 smokers should be in the actual pro 250 class. The results won't change, but it would just be nice to have them racing.

But, actually I don’t even think they should have the restrictions on 250 2 strokes that Canada has. They should be allowed to mod them to the same regulations that the 4 strokes are allowed. The top teams would still run their 4 strokes; when ya have unlimited access to parts, running an engine that can rev to 15,500 rpm is the way to go for them. So, letting whoever wants to try their luck on a smoker mod it to their hearts content isn’t going to give the smoker rider an advantage in the least, but rather it would even the playing field for them a bit more.
Jay Moto if they allowed fully modded 2t with a rider that can ride a 2t properly it would be all over for the 4t, embarrassing, they allowed it here at our nats for a few years and even in mud conditions they still won and the guy while one of our best ever racers was in his twilight years still won on the 2t. Darryl King. The argument is mute factories want to sell 4t they can bleed more from consumers. That’s why you won’t ever see Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki ever produce them again, Yamaha will continue as they kept production so really no cost to them and they because of KTM saw that they’re was still a big market for average riders wanting 2t and lower cost. It always cracks me up we have heavier bikes more complicated, higher cost twice the capacity engine size wise to be competitive or better, how consumers were sucked into this amazes me even today.

To give you an idea Gared Steinke ran an outdoor season one year. He did quite well when the track wasn’t full of hills or obviously the sand of Southwick. His results varied dramatically based on I believe the track as he’s pretty consistent and pretty fast too.
J A yeah agree, yeah I have followed the Dream Race series from the start and Stenke Dawg, but this year looks another level well this race anyways, check out Pings Bike check if you haven’t already, looks like the boys are getting pretty serious, RVs YZ is tuned to the max, that KTM of the young kids is basically everything KTM could throw at it, he’s a KTM junior program rider, it’s great to see, just after watching this and the 250f pro class these boys look fast to me. I have always loved 125s, it takes skills to ride fast on one which you develop can’t buy.
I have a feeling villopoto is gonna go home and train his ass off, come back to the next race and win.

Great to hear the roar of two strokes.
I really can't like this race enough! I'm more excited to see this race than the 450 main! But I'm also intrigued to see the lap times from the 125cc winner and the 250cc winner to see how far off the pace the little 125 is compared to a factory 250f

I’d be willing to bet that more pro’s wouldn’t mind changing things up a bit with a 125/250 2 stroke race. Carmichael said it best, “what’s not to like about a 2 stroke, they sound good, they smell good and are a blast to ride.” KTM and Husky certainly know what’s up and At least Yamaha and Kawasaki are spending money towards new 2 strokes and Suzuki won’t be far. Honda needs to wake up.. I personally think the outdoor series should feature 250/450 4 stroke along with 125/250 2 stroke (in separate classes of course) and SX should be 125/250 2 stroke with a 250 4 stroke class. Leave 450’s outside. You’ll see less injuries and I think pro’s still dig a 2 stroke.

No Kaw...what you see is what you will ever get. i guarantee Honda, Kaw, and Suzuki are done with 2 stroke forever...It would cost way more than they could ever hope to recover to get started again and Suzuki surely can't afford it. However there are a few not so well known european brands standing in the wings...TM, Gas Gas, Beta to name a few if you have lotto money to spend...
Did honda do a deal with Cali to ban 2 stroke?. c alifornia must be paying Honda to not make Cr 500 s as honda would sell all they could supply , This is the only industry that has a product that will sell but refuse to make it ?

Slower. Much Much slower. But the track became very muddy-sloppy later in the day, so, laptimes will be skewed.

Why is this not televised?!
Why would they bother? Because no one (but about 500 people) would watch it. Same reason it is almost impossible to find GOOD pro motorcycle racing on "regular TV" - especially in the US. And why would they bother when it costs very little to put the vid online (just like we are watching here.) They would lose their ass financially if they tried to put an event like this on "real TV." Sucks, but true. If it ain't some B.S. "reality show" or some other B.S. TV (that the rest of the real viewing public really wants to see) this stuff that WE like will never be on regular TV. It's no different than 20 years ago when we had to record these races on our VCR - because it came on ESPN2 or Speed Channel at like 2am - (same reason as above.) As much as we would like to THINK this is what the regular pubic want - it is not. And that is a damn shame. This is why CZcams, Red Bull TV, Dailymotion, Livestream and similar streaming apps are so great. WE can watch all of this awesome stuff whenever we want on any connected device - FOR FREE. I use my Roku box on my BIG TV and it is fab. Gotta love it.
I believe Ryan could train 1 month, jump back on a 450, and by 5 races in be on the podium or win. So could Dungey. You never loose it, just have to want it enough to be in the best shape. Great rider 👍🏻

Like many before me have said, Please televise these races. I personally would rather watch this than ANY AX, Flat track or other form of motorcycle racing that makes its way on TV.

I was just sitting here watching this race and thinking how huge would it be if James Stewart wanted to race this low impact series maybe next year I know he is over racing but imagine the attendance at these events!,

Jimmy 7 could make this a full series with more people showing up just to see him wreck the class and put the young gun back in the holster..
I know Villo is probably not really in shape or anything but I'm still kinda surprised he didn't have the raw/natural speed to win this... what was it only 5 laps? Nothing against the young-gun that won (never heard of him - don't follow amateur ranks anymore)... but I just figured RV would still win considering the dude was always just insanely fast.
Dude I had the same exact thought. When I read the results online I figured he must have had a tip over. Pretty shocked he didn't win this. Kinda like him not winning Red Bull Straight Rhythm.
He just isn't in the kind of shape yet to really rock out. If he was in peak form he would have won this pretty easily.
I guess it's just weird to see. Especially when Carmichael came out to do those 250 races a few years back and won them easily.
RV2 is far from his racing shape and being on a smaller bike. Give him a 450F with all his specs and settings.
Remember it's a 125 and Ryan probably outweighs that Aiden kid by 20+ LBS. And he's having fun I've always been a fan, but watching Ryan have fun now is awesome.

Aiden turned lap times in the 2:26 range and would have qualified 26th in the 250 class. Jeremy Martin qualified 1st with a 2:16.9 in the 250's.
Aiden rode smoother than Ryan also some fantastic lines.. rpms were perfect, he didn't let off the throttle

Takes a real rider to race a 2 stroke. I have both and way prefer the 2 strokes but in race conditions the 4 stroke is just way easer to race and win on effort less you can't get a single corner or gear selection wrong on a 125 but on a 250f you get away with out losing to much time so in my opinion if you can ride a 2 stroke your a much better rider.

Never said he couldn't have a girlfriend. However, "his lady" you're referring to in the video is likely approaching 40 years old, and that would be strange. A quick Google search shows that the woman in the video after the race is his mother.
