The problem of Universalism is that it makes God out to be stronger than the infernalists POV. It also makes Him not a monster. The infernalists cry "Why be a Christian and follow these rules if we're all going to be saved?" My response is a rhetorical question; were you ever Christian to begin with?

If you understand being motivated because God is Good and He Loves me unconditionally VS. I must do this because if I don’t I will burn in hell forever, then you must understand. Being motivated internally by love is vastly vastly superior AND God looks at and deals with the heart, not a checklist or dos and donts. It’s all Grace. From start to finish

I came to "right division" in the fall of 2017, Justin has been my main teacher sinse, yet oddly enough about a month ago I've been drawn towards a universalism perspective or at least a portion of it. This has been a bit of cognitive dissidence, thus I'm intrigued on the topic going forward. From what I've learned so far I would question what the judgment of God is? We learn that Israel will be refined and purified, practically subdued into understanding the truth. Just like Thomas... In the end was backed into a corner by truth and his Free Will was to bow down and accept Christ as Savior. We are saved from death, death is separation from God. Some vessels are honored while others are Dishonored in the end. I believe there's something special about being in Christ and avoiding death and the refinement process of being judged. Scripture to me is actually making more sense with the perspective of salvation for all when you understand death and what God's judgments truly entail in conjunction with his will that all men be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. My wife and I will keep watching... Thank you.

    • @johndalton1043

That's because eternal conscious torment is a lie. I believe there are three main views on eschatology (annihilation, eternal torture, and ultimate reconciliation) and that there is prima facie support for all three views, depending on the lens with which we read scripture.
To answer your question, Jesus basically said those who know better and do not follow the master will be beaten with many stripes and those ignorant will be beaten with few stripes. This proportionality ensures that eventually all correction will have an end. Luke 12
Or the man jailed who will not get out until every last penny is paid. It never says he will remain in jail for ever...but rather until the debt is paid in full.
I would encourage each person to stack the evidence. Google passages that teach eternal torment and compare them with those that teach Christian Universalism. I was shocked to discover that the evidence isn't even close.
For example, John the Baptist states, behold the Lamb of God who comes to take away the sins of the world. He didn't say "the saved" or "the Jews" or "believer", he said "the world". Further, there is no addendum or any previous or proceeding verse that limits the scope of "the world". One is simply left to ask if John meant what it sounds like he was saying. I had to ask myself...did Jews believe in a partial Messiah? I cannot find this concept anywhere in the Old Testament.
A lot of people in the ECT camp use Matt 25:46 as a proof text, but this is nonsense. Here, Jesus talks about separating nations into sheep and goats. Is this parable about grace via faith? No. I cannot find this concept anywhere. It is about separating nations based on humanitarianism. Where do we practice humanitarianism? Here. Now. Nations who practice humanitarianism will live an age of life and those who do not will live an age of punishment. It has nothing to do with eschatology...as no where in the Bible does it speak of whole nations going to "hell" for eternity. Hope this helps.

I have a co-worker who follows universalism, and he constantly tries to "enlighten" me. His main argument is that the Bibles as we know them, are not translated correctly. Not the KJV, NKJV, NIV, etc....none of them. He says that the original scriptures do not talk about eternal damnation or a place called "hell". So to make a point that it's heretical to him is nearly impossible, since he says the scriptures that I follow are not an accurate representation of God's word.

    • @grimlund
      @grimlund Před 3 měsíci

You'r co-worker is right. Jesus never talked about Hell. He talked about Gehenna. Gehenna was a dumpster outside of Jerusalem. It has nothing to do with eternal torments. Paul never mentioned anything about hell and torture either. He was most likely a universalist.
Hades and Hell are both pagan things. They first appeard in the Bible long after Jesus died.

He doesn't believe in a calling away of the BOC, when he taught less than a year ago? Its one thing to change a belief or stance (based on scripture), but to totally uproot everything you ever taught? I thought the message series was "reconciliation on trial"... more like "I've converted to Universal Reconciliation"

Do you honestly think that the God of Love would torture someone forever because they didn't get the theology just right? Infernalists have heard that God is love, but they don't believe it. If you believe in eternal torment (which the original Greek NT text DOES NOT SUPPORT) and you are wrong, what will you say when God asks why you slandered His character by stating He will torture people forever? Jesus commanded us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Do you think that God does not practice what he preaches?

Aside from Him WE can do nothing. All your attempts to save, and keep your life correct are as filthy filthy rags. The more you can surrender and see your wretched condition aside from Christs righteousness the more you will see it’s only grace and has allways been grace and that not of yourselves lest you boast. In the end God says he will fill ALL in ALL with himselve. That means there isn’t a separate crowd rotting and burning somewhere else, this is just a human fantasy conjured up in a warped mind that did not know Gods love or light.

It would seem that you're implying that universalists are guilty of gathering their doctrine from “certain” passages of scripture whilst at the same time ignoring those that contradict it. As far as I'm aware, most who adhere to “biblical universalism” do believe in God’s judgments/punishments along with those passages of scripture that quite clearly speak about God saving “All”. It seems to me that you have done the very thing you say universalists are guilty of, and that's explaining away, with “certain” passages of scripture, those scriptures that present us with God’s “ability” and “will” to save all. You cannot kick against the goads, it's unwise and futile to go against the will/desire of God.
The Scriptures tell us that God does whatever he wills/desires:-
Psalm 115 :3:- Our God is in heaven and does whatever he [wills/ḥāp̄ēṣ]
    Lexicon:- Strong's H2654 - ḥāp̄ēṣ :-
Outline of Biblical Usage:- To delight in, take pleasure in, desire, be pleased with etc ….
The Scriptures also tell us that God wills/desires “all men” to be saved:-
1 Tim 2:4:- who [wills/thelō] all men to be saved, and to come to the full knowledge of the truth.
    Lexicon:- Strong's G2309 - thelō:-
Outline of Biblical Usage:- To will, have in mind, intend, to be resolved or determined, to purpose, to desire, to wish, to love, to like to do a thing, be fond of doing, to take delight in, have pleasure etc ….
The word thelō is in verb form, and it doesn’t lend itself to some form of wishful thinking, it speaks of action and purpose [i.e.] God intends to save “all men”, or purposes for “all men” to be saved.
Apostle Paul then goes on to explain exactly what he meant in 1 Tim 2:4:-
1 Timothy 4:10:- For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of “all mankind”, >[especially]< of believers.
I fail to see how the context doesn’t fit with universalism. Paul simply states that God is the saviour of “all mankind”, and “within” that “all” are believers. The word “especially” is an adverb of the word “special” and it is used in the following context: -
especially: - adverb: - used to single out one person or thing over “all” others [I.e.] he despised them “all”, [especially] Jeremiah.
Gala 6:10. :- So then, while we have opportunity, let’s do good to “all people” and >[especially]< to those who are of the household of the faith.
Paul isn’t saying only do good to those that believe, he is saying that believers are to do good to “all men”, yet whilst doing this, believers are to treat other believers with “special goodness”. This is another example of why I reason it’s the same context as 1 Tim 4:10, Paul isn’t saying God is only going to save believers, but that he is going to save “all men”.
    Peace

Limited atonement gains a foothold with the thought that atonement equals salvation
Exo 34: 7 "... forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; ..."
    Forgiveness does not equal salvation.
All are forgiven but all are not saved.
The saved are those who have trusted the gospel that JESUS died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day for our justification.

31:22 Then explain what Jesus told John in Revelation and is backed up in Daniel is supposed to mean exactly. Or explain Ishmael born of flesh and not of promise and are the seed of vessels prepared for wrath(Hell) which things are symbolic.
Revelation 13:8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
    Daniel 12:Prophecy of the End Time 1 “At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people;
And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time.
And at that time your people shall be delivered,

Ishmael Hagar, for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia(birth of Islam Mecca) vessels of wrath prepared for destruction
Galatians 4:Two Covenants 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. 23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise, 24 which things are symbolic. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar- 25 for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children- 26 but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all. 27 For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren,
      You who do not bear!
      Break forth and shout,
You who are not in labor! For the desolate has many more children Than she who has a husband.” 28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. 29 But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now. 30 Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” 31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.
Genesis 16:7 Now the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur. 8 And He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?” She said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”9 The Angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand.” 10 Then the Angel of the Lord said to her, “I will multiply your descendants exceedingly, so that they shall not be counted for multitude.” 11 And the Angel of the Lord said to her:
“Behold, you are with child, And you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, Because the Lord has heard your affliction.12 He shall be a wild man; His hand shall be against every man,
And every man’s hand against him. And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.”(Muslims)
Genesis 17:15 Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. 16 And I will bless her and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be from her.” 17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” 18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!”
19 Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. 21 But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year.”
Romans 9:6 But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, 7 nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” 8 That is, those who are the children of the flesh( Palestinian Muslims), these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed. 9 For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.”
Romans 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! 15 For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” 16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.” 18 Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens. 19 You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?” 20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” 21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor? 22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory
Revelation 11:The Two Witnesses 11 Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles( Mosque on the Temple Mount). And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months.
Daniel 12:Prophecy of the End Time 11 “And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. (Time of Gentiles fulfilled trampling Jerusalem 42 months/3.5 years) 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.

How we know they didn't believe the world was going to end in the first century

You lost me at "problem". What I see is the problem is teaching that a bloodthirsty deity requires a human blood sacrifice in order to love humanity. I could never have a relationship with a deity like that in the same way that I would never marry a man that had a vicious dark side.

The Risen Saviour Jesus Christ who died for all sin past present and future cannot force one soul to be in heaven or force souls to be saved from the wrath to come
Their are those who profess they want to go to hell and their are those who make a covenant with hell And their will be those who will be deceived by satan when he will be decive the nations Revelation 20 which also includes a white throne judgment Saved believers in Christ the body of Christ church are in heavenly places for eternity by faith in the finished Cross work of Jesus Christ
Universalism was never preaced by Christ during his earthly ministry or his Heavenly ministry where the (revelation of the mystery) was dispensed from heaven to the Apostle Paul alone Let us take heed to right doctrine for today and implore those unsaved by the the god of this world that the lie of Universalism will not Eternally Save your soul
Faith alone for today in the death burial and resurrection of the Risen Saviour Jesus Christ alone will save ones eternal soul from hell
    1 Corinthians 15:1-4
and let us note that hell hath enlarged itself Isaiah 5:14 for a reason
To all the saints here grace and peace to you ......
    Amen .....

The bible contains the deepest truths but its truths is the 'treasure hidden in a field.' It awaits your discovery but it won't leap off the page at you without your serious consideration. The issue, as I see it, is that the bible offers us two versions of God. There is the God of Love and there is the god of wrath. Christianity says the two are one. And to use the bible to prove both gods are the same is to use the bible as a straitjacket. The bible is a book written by men of flesh and blood, holders of profound thought perhaps, but fallible in their thinking as we all are. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned. For spiritual discernment we have to refer to God's Teacher living within each of us, God's Holy Spirit. We require that no man teach us.
In reality there is only God. God didn't fashion us out of things outside Himself that he found lying around somewhere. All of Creation, God's extension of Himself, you and I and Jesus, are God's One Son. as alike to God as God is to Himself. God is One. God is Unity. In Him we live and move and have our being. We are co-eternal with God but we are NOT the Creator. We are His Son. This is the God I worship. The God of Love. The God Who is the ALL. This is the hidden treasure of the bible which offers us the true God and the counterfeit, the god of wrath. Godly men wrote the bible as they were prompted by God who gave us a CHOICE as to whom we will serve. In reality, there isn't really a choice because there is only ONE God and we're all destined to find Him The bible teaches us to learn who God is through spiritual discernment, it forces us to THINK. To know God as Love is to know God. And what is Love? You know what Paul taught. Love is gentle, it is kind, IT KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS. Love NEVER fails.
What did Jesus teach us at the cross? He taught us to love our brother unconditionally as God loves us. He taught us that we NEVER have cause to be angry with our brother. In the very act of being murdered Jesus didn't condemn his murderers, he FORGAVE them. 'Father forgive them for they know not what they do.' That's all of us, we know not what we do and we are forgiven, without condition. That is Love. For God to allow us to be eternally punished and forever separated from Him would be for He Who is One to lose His Unity. It would be to fracture Himself and to cause Himself to be eternally punished as well.
Man wanted to be the Most High. God looks upon us as a loving Father and understands that we are wayward children barely beyond the toddler stage and allowed us to see the error of our ways through experience. He offers us His irresistible gift of salvation knowing that it cannot be refused forever. Death is an illusion, as is everything in the world of lies that WE created. And because death is an illusion, our standing as God's Son doesn't evaporate when the body dies. There is no death. There is only Life. Love and Life are Real. They have no opposites.
Choose this day whom you will serve. As for me, I will serve the God of Love and let Him teach me how to love my brother. After all, we are all God's Prodigal Son, hanging out with the pigs and eating garbage. Silly children that we are, we thought this was an improvement on God's plan.
Bottom line. There is ONLY God. There is ONLY Love. There is ONLY life. This is our metric for truth in a fallen world. This is our metric for testing the bible. This is Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth. Is it Love? It is of God. If not, it is illusion. And illusions are not real by definition.
Let God's Holy Spirit teach you the truth of the bible by leaning on Him and not your own understanding. Read the book but don't bring all the theological baggage with it which is 2000 years of fallible men's comments and opinions. At the end of the day you have to ask yourself this question. Does the institution called the 'church' even know God if it thinks God is a God of wrath?

All that blah-blah, and you apparently cannot quote a single verse of scripture. I wouldn't follow you down the street, sorry.
