    When I was a child my father said to me: you must use magic words in your life every single day. Magic words are: thank you, excuse, thank you, please, good morning, good evening. I have never forgotten this. Nowadays is so rare to find people who say these words.

    I am not a parent (yet) but in my point of view it's very important to pay attention to how one treats younger siblings because we are involved in their development too. We often dont realise how our actions and words impact them. I want to be a better sister, less ignorant, impatient, selfish, toxic and neglecting :) thank you very much for sharing this video

      Not just siblings, but kids in general, and even small things. For example, random kid at the street at the crossing... its red light, do not cross, because you should set example for that kid. Sadly, many people don't understand that.

      @user-rx7lc1od7w Před 3 lety +3

      I try to stay cool, and leave the room when I feel stressed or sometimes I ask my sibling to hug me, and I receive a good advice. We should never direct our bad emotions towards youngsters, because it will ruin the precious siblinghood relationship.

      I like your horizontal heart. I ordered both books, and that placebo effect happened straight away, the moment I clicked the final button. That weird feeling of knowing what you want is on it's way is the real thing - instantly. It works. Like trusting in a number you see, and getting a great answer for every "but why", until sleep is way more interesting than anything else in the room.

    I cannot stress how important your point about not calling kids "bad at...." is. I was told as a kid I was bad at art and singing. Now in my 20s I've finally started experimenting more with art, but I still can't sing in public, even though I think I'm pretty good at it. I can't help but think how much better I would be if I'd felt free to explore and grow in those areas instead of avoiding them out of shame. Some great points in this video as always!

      Dakota Lee, Good for your for doing your art and trying. Keep singing. Perhaps you are not ready to sing in front of others. Take private voice lessons if you can. You will be amazed at how great you feel. Whatever you are doing you are doing it for yourself. That you are giving yourself messages that you can try and do it is all that matters. Well done! I hope you are proud of yourself. Thank you for sharing your story. Jamila will be proud of you, too, I am sure.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to have a parent who was so supportive and caring, but hearing you retell all the ways that he praised you (and used some reverse psych) lit up my heart as if I were the one hearing it. All of your tips are so full of wisdom and, like someone else commented, give wonderful advice for just being a good human being. • @jeanzhang9590
    @jeanzhang9590 Před 2 lety +63

    1 learn different languages in early age;
    2 do not expect immediate results, give them time;
    3 read with your child every night, make reading a tradition;
    4 do not put a label on your child, don’t say my child not good at some thing, instead say my child is better at something and working on improving something;
    5 distinguish a person from an action, don’t say someone is bad, just say what he did is a bad action;
    6 give your child responsibility, help them learn independence;
    7 get your child involved into some sports, build their body, strength, resilience and team work, overcome fear, become habit and lifestyle;
    8 do not promise your child something unless you are going to do it, otherwise leave it to doubt;
    9 teach your child to share, incorporate them into activities of sharing, make room for new things
    10 there are many different ways to raise a child, there is no rigid guideline or rule you have to follow, every child is different, knowing knowledge and information is good, but feeling is more important;
    11 be gentle to yourself, it is okay to be emotional or make mistakes here and there;
    12 travel with your child, expose them to see different cultures, values, traditions, customs;
    Extra important: say good positive words to your child

    What a wonderful video. Even though I am Korean, I unfortunately never learned the language (I grew up in a town where cultural diversity was practically nonexistent.) until I took it in college. Because I enjoy learning languages, I was hoping to eventually become fluent in Korean so that I could speak it to my future children. Despite living there for two years, I never became fully fluent in it, and then I lost it when I came back to the US after a divorce. My daughter was very small then, and my Korean quickly deteriorated, so she lost it as well. Now, I am learning several languages, including Italian and Spanish, and reviewing my French during my after time. I also am proud that you are teaching your adorable children well with positive words and you are exposing them to different cultures. Learning about other cultures and traveling have been dear to my heart. Fortunately, my daughter’s school taught them cultures of various countries, so she learned to be appreciate people from different backgrounds. Thank you! ♥️

    Fantastic advice. I especially resonated with the labeling part - heard myself my mother telling me and other people how I was "not good at math but better in languages" from an early age on, it stuck. How damaging to a little girl's mind and her perspective and what a limiting belief. As a child though, I didn't see it like that but simply accepted the "fact" that I was not good at math. For having had one or two bad test results in primary school - (unbelievable) it stuck with me throughout the years. So you made an excellent point there, also very well explained and generally another great video. Thank you :)

    I am a former educator and I agree with your points of view. I had a very good relationship with very small children because I treated them with respect, I was not afraid to enforce guidelines, I was always watching out for them (many teachable lessons happen on the playground!) and I used humor so that they would lighten up if necessary. I was also a church school teacher of the very young. Since their attention span is so short, I used my time with them to help them to negotiate being with other children in a kind and responsible way - wash your hands, say please and thank you, learn about sharing and be kind to your little friends. I would also try to communicate with them on their level which often meant bending down (and I am tall) but they appreciated the effort and I think it helped them to see me as an older person who was there to guide them but not intimidate them. Thank you for your video it was also a great refreshed on respecting other cultures - so important in today's world! Be well.

    This was a great video! I wish I had kept at it teaching my children French when they were younger. They are now teenagers, and cannot speak the language, though they can still make the proper pronunciations if I give them a word to say. I do still speak some French to them. (very bad first marriage...husband didn't want me teaching them). I would love to know now what to do. My oldest chose to learn some French in high school, and I hope his siblings will follow suit. I'm glad to see that I did do quite a few of the things on this list you've given, but I will be better about giving them good adjectives to live up to. Thanks so much! I so look forward to your videos!

      I think you should start teaching them . Their teenagers and still young . If they speak English they shall find French easy. I myself started to learn french 3 weeks ago. I find it close to English . I'm becoming 30 this year . Learning have no curtain age. Have a good day .

    I had worked with many children with ADHD/ADD. and they would use "I can't do it, I have ADHD" as an excuse not to do something- and these things would be canoeing or swimming, something that would make them very busy and not have to sit still. Never give your kids a label for excuses!

      That’s really sad that they feel they can’t do things because of their adhd. My perspective is different as my parents knew I had it and never told me. Instead I was labelled lazy, unmotivated and disorganized. Those are far worse labels than ADHD! I thought I was full of character flaws and not just struggling with low dopamine. Getting properly diagnosed and treated in my late 30’s set me free from the labels I suffered under my entire life.

    i love your first tip!!! Thanks to my parents I know 3 languages! I’m so glad they didn’t force me to speak english. Spanish is our native language and it is really important for us to know out language. Many think it’s embarrassing or that it is going to confuse children but I think it’s an amazing skill to have.

    My husband and I are both Vietnamese-Americans. Although English is our main language because we were both born here, we are both fluent in Vietnamese and wish to pass it on to our children. We plan to only speak Vietnamese to our children and then send them to a dual-immersion school (which are becoming increasingly popular in the United States but still less common), probably English-Spanish or English-Mandarin. Many parents think that it’s a ridiculous idea to try and raise trilingual children but seeing your child speak four languages so proficiently gives me reassurance! Thank you!

    The only person I am parenting is my “inner child.” 😂😂😂.
    I do agree with the languages. In the Philippines, “kilig” is a word that is unexplainable to another language. It’s giddy, happy, usually associated with romantic feeling/ butterflies in the stomach. During the pandemic I started self-teaching myself languages so that I can also teach them to my future children.
    I totally agree with this video. At 25, I had made self-reflections about my childhood and about life which made me the person I am today… as well as unlearning things my parents told me at point no. 4
    We have the same reflections and lessons non-verbatim. Please continue sharing your thoughts and reflections. I share them with my friends so that 1. They will help themselves, 2. They will start believing that soft skills are important too. 🙏🏼
    I’m glad a woman like you exists in the world during my lifetime. You are one of the women I look up to. Thank you Dearest Miss Jamila 🤍

    As a child, my parents couldn't afford to take my family traveling, but we watched so much documentaries together and my mom made us food from all other the world. And as soon as they could, they sent my sister and I on summer camp in other countries, and it was the best gift they ever made to us !
