In this tutorial, we will learn how to make our own Soil EC & Salinity Meter using Arduino & Soil EC Sensor. Soil electrical conductivity (EC) is a measure of the amount of salts in the soil. Salinity is a measure of soluble salts in soil or water.
In this proposed system, we will measure the Soil EC & Salinity using our own DIY Arduino Soil EC Meter. The type of soil electrical conductivity sensor that we will be using is the JXCTIOT Soil EC Sensor. The sensor works on Modbus protocol. Using some Modbus command we can request Soil EC & Salinity value from the Sensor.
We will display the Soil EC Value and Salinity value on a 0.96″ OLED Display. The Soil EC Sensor along with Arduino can give a digital reading of Soil EC & Salinity.

Awesome video, I have a signle question, how to you know the values of EC and salinity in bytes that you need to send to the sensor?

Hello, good day! I have a 3 in 1 RS485 EC, Temperature, and Humidity Sensor. I already followed all your steps from the video, but the output always displays -1 and it will not update to 0 value just like in the video. I can't really pinpoint what is wrong on my part for that. Also I want to ask couple of question,
1. Did you use any configuration/calibration tool/software before coding the sensor itself?
2. Does the sensor still function even if I only code the EC variable of my sensor and not the other 2 variables
3. How many volts did you use for this video?
4. Is there an updated part of this code? (If possible can you please provide codes for humidity and temperature)

Hi dear, if your enquiry frame is correct, you will get the readings. Check enquiry frame from the manufacturer. Also the enquiry frame for EC, Temperature and Humidity are different. You can call anyone of them. Also check if the RS485 sensor is supplied with 12V DC supply or not.
@@HowtoElectronics Thank you for the response. Yes, we triple checked the inquiry frame for the sensor and it is all correct, and we also supplied it with 12V DC with our own power supply. But the thing is, the output on my LCD is always -1 and it wont go to 0 value just like in the video.
Also, did you use any particular configuration/calibration software before you coded the EC sensor?
its not working..showing -1 and 255
is the sensor exclusive to soil only? can i use this to measure salinity of a water?
No for water there is a different sensor called TDS sensor. I already made video on that and also posted an article.

I know everything is not possible in hindi but you use your all Technical turms in English and many words but your mode of communication is hinglish..........
