In the end I think they found a rather good name for it, even though it indeed feels weird to say and type still. Some speculated of A210/A230 or even A316/A317 but I weren't really fond of any of those names. A220-100 and A220-300 fits rather well in my opinion, plus that the -100 and -300 remains from the CSeries names.
