Pat Travers Band Live 1979: Why I didn't understand this album when I got it (and why I do now).

  • As a young guitar player when I first got this album, I think it was just too advanced for my level of playing. If that makes sense? I didn't fully appreciate what was going on. It took me a couple of years for my playing (and ear) to catch up to the magnificence of this live recording.
The interplay between the two Pat's, with their different styles and sounds, the rhythm section of Tommy Aldridge and Mars Cowling makes this a super tight and super dynamic outfit just hitting their creative peak.
As a "bonus" I've ended the video with a guitar cover of "Rock And Roll Susie" - I took the basic live track from a 1976 recording (as a 3 piece with Nicko McBrain from Iron Maiden on drums) and added a rough guess at some of the guitar lines that Pat Thrall would later add to the song. I think it sounds okay, but it is most definitely not 100% accurate. I haven't done many Pat Travers songs on this channel, simply because they are so difficult to master. But I gave it a go.
If you want to dive straight to the cover version, go to 17:54, otherwise strap yourself in from the beginning listening to an old Scottish guy talking about an album that was released all of 43 (!) years ago!
That for watching, as ever it's much appreciated.
